It's either this video or "Character Problems" where I accidentally say "land shark" instead of "loan shark." I see FAR too many scripts that use a loan shark so I think you should go with a land shark instead -- much more interesting lol.
Don't forget to give this a thumbs up just to make me happy that you liked it :)
    Love,
    WD

I heard "loan shark" here throughout. ;)

Yeah... I took a creative writing class and wrote about men manning a lighthouse and they were drinking coffee... the professor said, "a lot of new writers have people drinking coffee.." OUCH!!! HAHAHA.... But i was so grateful for that feedback (it stings but I'm curious about people who resist notes). So... no coffee and no loan sharks.. :)

There's definitely a lot of coffee in scripts.

You are very entertaining, and truthful about a lot of scripts that have no purpose, other than that the writer thought it did.

We could do a storage unit movie where some big time drug dealers had their money stashed there and someone bought it at a storage auction!

    • @anthonyv8740
      @anthonyv8740 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Or the storage unit has some evidence about some political corruption like maybe about Trump!!!!!!!!! lol

Great Job! You help clarify facets of screenwriting that make it much easier to plan our stories and add depth & stakes to them. I really loved an earlier video with the 4 stages of a story. Orphan, Wanderer, Warrior and Martyr.

No stakes in Paterson, and Paterson is one of the best films I've ever seen

Paterson leads a repetitive life, he's so passive that simple life events seem like a new challenge. He never confronts his wife, her dog, or anybody else. If you see him as a person who doesn't acknowledge his potential as a poet, trapped in a working class environment, living his life like a living dead, you tend to care deeply about him. And it's a Jim Jarmousch movie.

    • @jjkhawaiian

Sounds almost like Breaking Bad, but instead of a poet, he cooks meth.

  • @MichaelShawcross1

Yes........far too many loan sharks! What you need is a lone shark.

  • @mikes5079

WHAT ABOUT.....? A pregnant woman going into labor being rushed to the hospital in a site-seeing helicopter and the only other passengers are the pilot and a douchey guy who happens to be a Loan Shark and HE MUST deliver the baby IN the helicopter!? THEN, the pilot's flaw is he can't stand the sight of blood... so she gives birth to the baby and there's blood EVERYWHERE in the tiny helicopter. The PILOT SEES THE BLOOD AND.......... PASSES OUT! SO... the douchey Loan Shark must land the helicopter to save the girl, the pilot the baby and himself. He struggles, almost crashes into a mountain...but he finally makes it; He lands the helicopter. BUT WAIT... now we're reminded... he's a douchey Loan Shark! So, he selfishly feels that since he's done such a great service to everyone... being the douchey loan shark he is, he's owned $100,000 for delivering the baby and landing the helicopter... so he pulls a gun and threatens everyone's life unless they all pay up!
BAM!!! High stakes mo fo! LOL!! (j/k).
But seriously... I love all your videos. SO helpful!! =)

  • @rsacchi100

"2001" didn't seem to show any relevant stakes for much of the movie. Is this an exception that proves the rule or is it a case that such a screenplay would end up in the trash today?
