A year later stopping by. Word Dancer reminds me of my first acting exercise in a college course. The professor set up my girlfriend is pregnant. I tried everything to resolve this wild conflict, so the prof said no, it's a baby of a different race, too. So I tried to alleviate this new level of tension. Finally I learned the actor's job is not to avoid conflict but to seek it like a bloodhound, letting the screenplay reign you in. So here I comment on a Word Dancer page. Because if it ain't on the page, it ain't on the stage.

Yaaaay the blocked toilet scene again! I actually love whenever this example pops up. It's a really good vision of how a bit of business can shape a scene and make it more than a sit-down conversation. My stories have a lot of chat in them so... Gonna have to block a lot of toilets 😄

Hey I think your videos are really helpful! I would like to ask something about screenwriting. I realized that when happens something that is not understandable for everyone, for example a characters action- why did he do it exactly- I always try to build it into later conversations. Does it looses from its value? I know a lot of people say: don't tell, show. But in this case i feel like i show it and then tell it. These are sometimes really complex things, feelings, that I think I wouldn't get it, only if I would analyze the movie for 10hours.

    Hello and thank you.
How do I right a scene where music is playing, it's action, people are arguing and based on the previous scene we know what the argument is about.
How do I navigate the reader through that?

Hey, Word! I've got a superimportant question I can't remember having seen covered before! :)
I just went through my screenplay again. But this time, rather than reading the dialogue out loud and enacting the characters' body language and expressions, I just read the script silently.
That left me with a different impression of the script, and so I made a few changes.
So here's the question: Should we write the script with the assumption that the reader *will NOT pronounce the dialogue and enact the characters' body language and expressions*? Or with the assumption that the reader *will do these things*?
In other words, should the script be most entertaining for the reader or be most useful for dramatic purposes?
I am worried that some of the drama is lost if I think about what would be most entertaining for the reader. For example, a character might be very tense and breathe heavily multiple times throuhout a conversation. But for a reader to read about a character's breath all the time is probably not so interesting -- a reader wants the description to be varied.

    • @ah4866
      @ah4866 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

"explains while heavily breathing" and some sentences later "he finally calms down, breathing less agitated"

INT. FRIENDS HOUSE - LATE MORNING SALLY and BRIDGETTE are sitting at kitchen bar. Sally is meticulously making homemade lemonade while the two small talk. Bridgette is waiting for the right moment to tell Sally that she is pregnant, but the time seems to never come. Sally finishes perfecting her lemonade and is pouring a glass when Bridgette blurts out "I'm Pregnant!". Sally pauses without expression --then without warning she douses Bridgette with her glass of lemonade. Bridgette looks at Sally in surprise then throws her glass of lemonade on her. Looking at each other soaked, they start to laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. Sally walks to the other side of the kitchen bar and hugs her close friend Bridgette and tells her she happy for her. Sally whispers in Sally's ear as she hugs her while laugh crying, " take my favorite baby name and Aunt Sally will be on permanent strike"... Bridgette whispers back as she is laugh crying, "Bitch".

Exercise: "Wow, Amanda.....this is .... wonderful! I'm so happy!" Amanda's giddy with relief. "Phew, Donna, thank you!" They embrace. Donna looks at her friend, shaking her head, still can't believe it. "Boy or girl?" Amanda grins. "Boy and girl." Donna's smile hardens at the edges. "What?" Amanda nods eagerly "Can you believe it? Twins!" She's going for another embrace which doesn't come. Donna's shell shocked. "Twins." "And we didn't even try!" - Would that be a button?! Nope. I guess not. Have to work harder. But great lesson - thank you!

Hi, I have question. When your script makes millions at the box office, does your bank acount reflect that? Or do you get a very, very low 6 figure number ( if your lucky ) and Hollywood gets all the 7 figure numbers in theirs ?

Two girls on a Bar. Mandy, 30, Laura, 33.
    Bartender
    What´s going to be, ladies?
    Mandy
Two vodka Gimlets, please. We want to get wasted.
    Laura
Just one. And a glass of water.
    Mandy
Oh, Lord. The world has come to an end.
    Laura
    No. It´s a new world. It´s a new life
    Mandy(singing)
How it goes? Yes, it´s a new life... for me...And I am feeling good.
    Laura
A new life... inside of me, and I am feeling fantastic.
    Mandy
Bartender. Two glasses of water, forget the vodka. We are celebrating. Told you, Laura. Praying works. So we´ll keep on praying, so I can produce a little friend to your little treasure.
Sorry, for the spelling errors, english is my second language.

The pregnant lady has her good friend the plumber coming. The ladies are chatting when he arrives and she says my waters broke. He comments that it’s likely 8 months before that happens, letting the cat out of the bag. The other lady runs to the broken bathroom, the pregnant lady hits the plumber, a scream from the bathroom as waters going everywhere.

I like your script writing lessons but your comments about dancing on this video is not correct, those dancers are very bad dancers to my opinion..As choreographer and script writer like you, i think dancing is not about doing acrobacies, acrobacies are for circus.
