Yall got it wrong. All I am was just some boi delivering tofu for my father. Then I got dragged into a race for a full tank of gas. After that everything changed.
I never could appreciate this when the show first came out. Since I didn't drive back then, 3:20 this was pretty much me. "What? Why's everyone so impressed?"
Imagine high speed driving in the night with no lights. and then imagine driving in the night and suddenly there's headlight from a car very close to you.
Touge races. How it goes is the racers take turns leading from point A to B and B to A accordingly. They do this until one falls behind far enough and will be the definitive loser. If they finish quite close in a round, it's considered a tie and they'll repeat another round until one wins. If one manages to pass the leader and reach the finish line, they will automatically win. If you were passed, and manage to pass them for you to take back the lead, you'll automatically win as well. Thing is, passing is super difficult especially for illegal mountain races with narrow roads like this. I tried looking up for videos of real touge races winning by passing and I couldn't find any. So yeah, this anime is a little fantastical, not to mention driving in high speeds in the dark and passing in such roads, but it's very impressive if it really happens tbh
While this was a loss to some people at the end of the day this was a war of attrition. Takumi almost from one small mistake of the gutters, just like toshima made the small mistake of dragging out the race.
Takumi would be too OP with that Subaru and the races wouldn't be exciting it'll just be Team Dream wiping out all the competition without trying to hard
The only real loss to me was with the Todo school pro driver. With godhand, stamina is a very real part of racing once you get into it. Long races absolutely wreck your body.
I doubt takumi would be much better in the Impreza. The whole reason he can win so much in the 86 is because of his bond with the car that’s so strong enough it more or less an extension of his own body, adapting to the Impreza would take loads of practice seeing as it has a turbo and AWD. Not saying he’d be slow but against god arm he’d definitely lose
Papa ryosukes infinite funding makes all of that negligible. I’m fairly certain takumi could have totalled his 86, and had a new one in a day from ryosuke 😂
From the timeline this plays around the year 2000, the AE86 was over 10y old at that time so i guess that spare parts aint that expensive. In addition it was never designed to be a real sports car.
i recently rewatched the seasons up till 4, and noticed how fluid the first 2 seasons were and the 4th was so standstill, even on some portions of the cgi, it annoys me because they were so fluid and now it seemed like they were saving on costs
@@everythinginitiald2.085 yeah I don’t understand why, everything was so fluid, even the hand drawn animations, like there were some portions of season 1 and 2 were the cars are literally drawn, especially ryosuke’s fc, and it’s so nice, I wish they would’ve resorted to that at times. Also another note, they reuse the same shots in season 4, constantly
Takumi was soundly beaten here, an accident or a car screwup while racing signals an immediate defeat, despite slowly passing a puking Godhand, Takumi wrecked his car suspension thus losing the race challenge
The car was still drivable and he still crossed the line first. Doesn’t matter how wounded your car is to finish first you have to FINISH. A great example is Lewis Hamilton winning the British Grand Prix with a blown tyre and wrecked suspension Also takumi beat shinji with a blown engine that wasn’t contested by anyone
This was a race of attrition, and also your car can take as much as a beating as you need in racing as long as you finish first. Rally drivers know this especially. In takumi’s case, he won with plot armor but in universe, he had more stamina.
And tbh, with the angle on the drifts they're getting, they would be going about 20-30 mph if it was real life. Initial D is really good at making cars look like they're going sideways at 100 mph lmao
Its still intense, a car drifting past you over 50 mph would still be a sight. After all not even 300mph supercar actually goes 300mph outside of showcases

Its kinda cringey after they add the "he got wings" effect on their cars to show their racing spirit, it immediately put it into fantasy series for me.
One of the better races of those failed seasons, but still, not even close in level of tension compared to stage 1 and 2. And then you remember how Takumi "won" this particular race... The biggest disappointment
If you technically see stamina is really an important thing too in such races and he already won the same kind of race earlier against Wataru tho even Takumi considers he lost in terms of technique coz Joshima gave him a hard time
Keisuke vs Wataru was a good example of endurance battle, Wataru gave up mid-course, nobody's car was hopelessly broken. In case of Takumi vs Joshima, it happened at the last corner with Takumi's car broken. A lot of Takumi's races past stage 3 feel like nothing but a plot shield.
@@Cecy1b Wataru didn't gave up mid course it was about passing the racer in front of you and you win or else the race continues if u are not left too behind as the chaser, well later on in series it did kinda feel like a plot armour but they were executed well and not something bs

Imho, this battle is a "final villain"-worthy episode. the battle with shinji as another 86 driver only comes to second.
It’s quite fitting though because takumi is basically racing a first stage version of himself
Takumi was a different breed in this season
man was basically rampaging in this stage
Real life question tho, takumi doing the gutter technique lowers the lifespan of a car's swing arm, bushings, ball joins, rod and rod ends right?
Most likely, but it won't matter cause we know Ryosuke will replace the parts since he's rich to keep his downhill ace going.
