    ℹ️ About this episode:
    In this episode of LivinRvision, we’re taking a glimpse into a fraction of America's renewable energy resources.
    There's ongoing debate about the environmental impacts of lithium-ion batteries and fossil fuels. Lithium-ion batteries contain metals like cobalt, nickel, and manganese, which can be harmful if they seep into water supplies and ecosystems from landfills. Extracting, processing, and transporting underground oil, gas, and coal deposits exacts a heavy toll on our landscapes and ecosystems. Even after operations cease, the depleted land may never fully recover.
    Some argue that the increase in heat-trapping gases such as CO2 is primarily responsible for the rise in global average temperatures since the late nineteenth century. Others point to historical data suggesting periods of cooling or no temperature increase despite higher CO2 levels, implying that CO2 may not have a warming effect or that it's physically implausible. Despite these debates, one undeniable fact remains: fossil fuels are finite.
    The real question is whether renewable energy could ultimately provide solutions to these challenges, not only for electricity but also for our transportation needs.
    We hope you find this episode engaging, informative, and as always, entertaining. 😬🤓

    Hello Visionaries! Every week we try to find new and interesting things to share. That being said, the subject of this video could go even deeper and discuss a lot more information than what we had time to film research and edit within this video. Please keep these things in mind when watching our content that we share each week (Many of you do realize this). We are doing our best to come up with interesting content with as much information as we have time for during a one day visit and a 5 day edit that will fit within the time we have available each week. We love to share the interesting places we go with everyone and hope you appreciate and enjoy them. Don't forget, if there is ever anything that we haven't covered within a video, a simple Google search will hopefully give you your answer. Subjects like this can really get peoples opinions moving. lol We are not experts in this subject, we just try to share these destinations with you, our viewers. 🧡😊🤓

    Dave here with an upfront disclaimer. I am a retired nuclear plant worker.
    One on the "greenest" and most reliable energy sources is nuclear. Nuclear has extremely low carbon dioxide emissions. Capacity factor for nuclear is much better than all renewable sources. From a US government energy web site capacity factors are: Solar = 24.6% Wind = 34.6% Hydropower = 37.1% Coal = 49.3% Natural Gas = 54.4% Geothermal = 71% Nuclear = 92.7% The big base load nukes don't rely on sun or wind and make power all day every day in the heat of summer and the cold of winter. Also, there was discussion about acreage for solar and wind. The plant where I worked has an area of about 150 acres and makes just over 1100 Megawatts.
    Solar and wind may make sense in limited places and limited quantities, but don't forget about the big nuke plants.

      Common sense would show nuclear power as the answer. Unfortunately for common sense, we are getting our energy policy from politicians and Swedish school girls.

    The other half of renewable energy systems is storage of excess energy to supplement periods when generation systems cannot support consumption. Tesla Energy is a division that has been very successful in allowing the smoothing of peaks and valleys of generation. Energy storage banks have been fundamental in allowing entire cities in Australia to run on renewable energy and helping Hawaii shut down their last thermal generation plant.

    I often ponder the true cost of producing gas and oil today, considering how technological innovation has shaped our world. If humankind had never embraced technological advancements and instead operated on genuine money rather than a debt-based currency, would the cost of production remain unchanged? Imagine the true cost today, with advancements in technology and innovation shaping the industry.
    Ponder, it’s healthy.

  • @showme360
    @showme360 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I think when allowed, renewables could easily cover our needs, even when the sun does not shine and wind does not blow, storage is the answer at home and on site at these farms. We have home storage here in the UK and we don't need to use the grid in the summer months because our solar array gives us all we need. If we had storage in the village as well as our home and at the generation site, we could last out for weeks. Our coastline also has enough renewable not just in wind, but in tidal energy alone that could cover the base level of 20% of our nation needs, why on Gods Earth they are building a Nuclear Power station that's going to cost 100 billion of pounds more to build and run and and hundreds more millons to decommissions for generation into the future, is just madness in my mind. Thanks for the video and very interesting.

    Hi! Okay, we did it because we’ve been watching y’all for years. Our first trip out with our Grech Strada started a few weeks ago, however we stopped (full hookups) at an RV park and our chassis batteries died. We’ve been RV’ing for decades, never in a Class B.
    Called AAA (late and we’re packing), hubby finishing off the charge with a battery charger he brought with us.
    So….has this happened to anyone else or just this newbie?
    BTW- Don’t we just LOVE these two?!💓

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! So sorry that happened. Did you check to see if the belt came off the MAIN alternator? The chassis battery is part of the Mercedes original install. The second alternator is what Grech installed to charge the HOUSE batteries. We had that belt come off only once on an older model which was very odd and never happened again. If your chassis battery is not charging, it could be the alternator belt came off the alternator which is something you don’t ever hear about happening very often on a new vehicle. Also, there is a Grech RV Owners Facebook group where you can ask other Grech owners questions as well. We sure hope you get that figured out soon. Has to be something simple. Don’t forget you are under warranty also for Mercedes issues which this sounds like it is instead of Grech.

    As you take I-10 past Palm Springs you have an interesting view of two continental plates. It is even visible about 1:19 in this video. On the left, if you are traveling east, is the Pacific plate, and on your right is the North American plate. The difference in appearance of the land is dramatic. Mountains on the Pacific side, less impressive hills on the North American side. The San Andrais fault runs right through there and is visible if you kow what to look for.

    Interesting video, but, when touring these wind farms, they never talk about the life of the units, what happens to those gigantic blades and motor parts when they "die". What is the impact on the environment from old units? Same for solar farms. What is the life of the panels and what happens to the old solar panels and parts? What is the impact on the environment? Is this "renewable" energy just another tall tale?
    Not saying don't use them, but i am saying don't pretend they are the answer to energy needs with little impact compared to fossil fuels.

    My wife is subscribed and watches on the TV while I am on the computer doing other things of interests. Renewable energy is important but the fossil fuel industry are not very happy about it and have lobbyist pay politicians to put a damper on them.
    I have a wind generator with 2 one hundred watt solar panels that feed energy into a unit which transform 12 volts DC to 110-120 volts DC. The unit is called "Nature's Generator" and it has a 12 volt deep cycle lead battery inside. Not a lithium ion battery. It also has an electrical cord to charge the battery when there is no sun or wind. I also have a second unit on 3 one hundred watt solar panels in which the inverter transforms 12 volts DC to 110-120 volts AC. This second set up runs our large refrigerator. This second set up has three 12 volt deep cycle batteries lead batteries. The decision on lead acid batteries was easy since lead acid batteries are easily recycled unlike lithium ion batteries. I do have plans to expand with a larger wind generator--too small to be called a turbine--with more solar panels.
    The downside of lead acid batteries is that they can not be used below 50 percent of their electrical capacity. However, I am of the type that monitors how much power is in the batteries. If they get to that point of being low (just above 50 percent) I put them on a battery charger. Moreover, my neighbors are impressed with what I did and there has been no complaints. When the wind generator is spinning, it produces low noise. The neighbor kids make far much more noise than the wind generator.

    Thanks for another informative video. The opening video talks about lithium ion batteries and you are filming the batteries in the van which are lithium iron phosphate and do not contain nickel or cobalt. It may seem insignificant but it was a conscious decision in design.

    Thorium will be the energy of the future. Batteries made from it will never need to be charged. There is already an energy plant being built to use it.

    Peer plants should run on hydrogen, generated by the extra wind output, instead of fossil fuels (and save batteries)

    I was born in a Pacific island few years ago the government decided to green and close down the nuclear power plants people question just wind and solar power will be enough 😅 but the government said it will be any power shortage 😢 and now the island is facing shortage and have to ration power to different areas of island 😢 and people are not happy especially the rate might go up soon and most people will not able to pay for new rates and the island has no back up power generators this place at least have gas fire plant for back up and with ev coming up I wonder if they can produce enough power to charge them 😅 your RV has solar panels to recharge the battery I don't if they provide enough power for the battery

      True. The solar panels on this van are really only enough to trickle charge the batteries because the batteries have such high amp hours. The second alternator does most of the charging when driving or when plugged in to shore power.

    Great video! I think the keys are:
    1. Conservation - Use mass transit, and increase its availability where you can.
    2. Decentralized generation - Save on the costs of transmission networks, substations, and distribution lines.
