  • It's hard not to be triggered by Rolling Stone's 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list for 2023. Who's on it? Who's not on it? How do they decide where someone falls in the list? What is the criteria for the list? What would your criteria before for a greatest guitarist list? Let's get into it.

I’m a blues guy, so I can’t figure out how Mike Bloomfield like #158 and Joni Mitchell is #9

I didn’t care. Players like Jack White, Neil Young, The Edge should not be anywhere near the list. So many great players, it is impossible to make a list without missing a few.

Man, I never looked at their list... IMO, it's all bullshit and a lot of people in their "top" lists should not be that high. And as you mentioned, A LOT of massive influential players aren't even on that list. So I never took their bullshit list is for anything than just that, bullshit. I mean c'mon, Leslie West at 245?? Jack fucking White in the mid 30's while Billy Gibbon's is in the 100's? Tha fuck? Nope.

Half the people on the list couldn't carry Paul Gilbert's pick.

I disagree. They can’t play half as well, but they could pick up his pick.😂

I find all Rolling Stone's list very Ameri-centric (understandable) - but also very woke and inclusive. As a European I have not even heard of many of these guitarists. You gave a fair evaluation from your perspective and thats really what its about - these "BEST" lists are a joke in general and are indeed click-bait. You cannot compare different genres with one another its senseless. Having said all that the fact that Alan Holdsworth is not on the list invalidates it straight away, many will not like him but he's one of those few in the Guitarist's guitarists list.

No Gary Moore, Joe Pass, Allen Holsworth, George Benson and the most underatted guitarist on the planet, The Iconic
Frank Marino. Joke of a list.
    Insult to actual guitarists.
