990 and 1000/d two of the best radios ever made imo. The one you have there looks amazing, can't believe the condition. It beats me how such delicate gear can be so bruised over time.
That is the most beautiful HF transceiver ever made IMHO. I just bought one on ebay. Here's hoping it works!!. PS Sold my Icom IC-7300 after less than one month. The SDR receive audio is not natural or pleasant.
I love this radio! I have had this one for about 2yrs and had no problems with it. It does everything you would expect for it to do. I use this on an R7 vertical antenna and the tuner works great. A standard mic works nice but it's much better with the desk mic that matches up well and keeps the modulation at a decent level. You can't go wrong with this in your shack.
Que hermoso equipo...aca en Argentina no se ven muchos...y los precios muy caros, hoy en dia por un ft2000 piden 2500 dolares(us)..que bien se escucha..que antenas usas?
I have one . with the matching speaker. love the speaker and the filters. also the hidden menu for the mic audio. to get better quality from your 990. press and hold the fast button. then press the processor. it will then come up on the display. - + . I found around -18 is best for me . you can set this best for what you want. 73's
Hey i need some help. i just purchased the FT990 there are a lot of buttons on the front . hi hi. can you provide me with some basic setting for using the radio. like what to set the buttons to ie set vol to 10 o'clock for comfortable listening over all just want a basic idea what the nobs should be set to
A very nice radio I have a Kenwood TS 850 which has developed a fault some of the chips where manufactured by Kenwood and are no longer being made is this the case with the FT 990? .
I think the DDS chips in the 990 were custom made for Yaesu, so if those go you have a problem. But there are lots of sellers on eBay who sell spare boards from disassembled radio's that they buy as a whole and then sell off in parts. Those will make it possible to get the radio up and running again. Cheers.
They are both very good radios. But I like the 990 more because of its professional build using multiple plug-in cards on a motherboard. Easier to service and a very clean look. The FT-1000 does not have that, and as a result servicing that radio is a a bear. But the FT-1000 has dual receivers, a metal alloy (die cast) front panel and 150 watt RF output. So you be the judge...
hi helo friend i am one of your subcriber. I have this yaesu ft-990 the problem is it fail to TX when i press the ptt button. RX i have no problem. is the TX IC have problem ? this radio not in operation for a long time. can you help me with this friend. De V85AFH 73...
Hello! A radio not transmitting can have many causes. Try to listen on another radio in the near vicinity with the covers removed from the 990. If you can hear the 990's TX signal, albeit weak, you know the problem is in the TX driver or PA stages. If you don't hear anything it all, the problem is in the TX exciter. Check DC voltages on all the TX stages, it could be a simple power supply problem. Also, keep in mind that most problems with these 30 year old radio's are caused by bad electrolytic capacitors and/or tantalum caps throughout the radio. Check if they have visibly leaked electrolyte (often results in corrosion around them) or if they are bulging. But even without visible indicators, caps like that might be bad. That's all I can come up with without the radio not actually sitting on my desk. Good luck.
Superb! Super High Quality . Made and designed in Japan.

Just thinking of buying one as my last radio ever . Thank you.
Having both a FT990 and a FT1000D I am pleased with both... both have superb ergonomics.
I treated myself to an FT990 for my 60th birthday. It's s superb radio with great ergonomics. Strangely enough, I almost always operate QRP ;-)

Actually it is pronounced as Jan Joosten, the company was named after him

I like that radio I think I need one
Nice quality, may I ask what Antenna you were using ?
A simple vertical, tuned at the base using a Collins tuner. home made. It is down now due to hurricane Ian.
Great video, I have a 990 thats my main cw radio. What antenna are you using on the 990 in the video? 73

Do you know how to change the USB emission in PKT mod?
It is not possible. But packet is not sideband sensitive like RTTY is, should not make a difference

@LifeIsTooShortForQRP still prefer 100 watt transistor power ( next best after the tube) than 150 W mosfet power 🤢
@@LifeIsTooShortForQRP hard choice for me then. Many say the same both are premium and probably the best Yeasu had to offer ever.
