Hey Gang! Let us know what you think of this Old Piece of Testing Equipment! We apologize for the audio during the testing, Turns out electrical interference shielding for wireless microphones wasn't a big concern in the 1930's.

I'm close to 76 years old and although the content of your video is still before my time, I've been exposed to it over the years. One thing about it I really miss, is the atmosphere of your garage. Good video and I subbed you.

Your initial brush plate setting was correct, but you should have tightened the four screws before placing on the machine. Then only move the third brush br itself by loosening the internal nut on the brush plate.

Hi Matt and Jim! Does your AVO meter say where it was made and does it have a date? The company used to have premises in Dover, Kent - just up the coast from me. I did some reading and it turns out that the invention of the multimeter was credited to a Scottish chap called MacAdie who got it manufactured by AVO and they introduced it in 1923. Yours looks pretty early.

Do you use an in line power resistor on your old tester? It might be a good idea as it's likely meant to be run on 110-115 volts and modern voltages can often be as high as 125 which would throw off a different reading on the meters that aren't expecting a voltage that high. I install power resistors on vintage radio equipment I use for that very reason although tube radio gear may be a little more sensitive to the extra strain of higher voltage than your machine.

I have a really great project idea for you. Have you heard of the Jappic? It was a Brooklands cyclecar racer, with less than 4hp, in a small motorcycle engine. There is an antique Pathé film you can watch about it, here on YT. What if someone were to find you a 4 cylinder Henderson engine, and you put it into a featherweight cyclecar racer.... A person could even use a certain kind of airplane part, for it's body.... I'd say it would be a pretty fair race, against your faster Model T's. .....ACTUALLY, that antique V-twin motorcycle engine you have, would also be competitive with Model T's as well. ...Any of the Henderson engines would be FAST though.......

Matt, sorry to bust your bubble but either your head is shrinking or that hat is growing, its like ten sizes too big for your head. With your Dad contribution with his skills and vast knowledge of many years experience as a machinist must make him feel pretty dern good being able to help you out. That's good to hear..I recall you guys showing us this machine in an earlier episode nice to see it at work doing its job setting up a generator. That's so cool.
