- Back in the spring, the French Pacific territory of New Caledonia was gripped by deadly riots that left many businesses in ruin. This, in turn, aggravated its already crippled economy. The nickel industry, the archipelago's primary resource, was already facing setbacks before the riots, forcing many employers to lay off swaths of their workforce. How to balance it?
This is a report made and funded by the French government. The state is reporting on itself to broadcast to a foreign-only audience. Think of it like Voice of America reporting on a riot in the US but the news outlet funding the report is the US government.
