my dad was called paw paw by my daughter...we just buried him a couple weeks ago...Red has always been a big thing for me and my dad...no matter how many times we listened...we took ever word to heart...we rode for the brand and u couldnt get a better cowboy then my dad...he could climb on ANY horse and no matter what their past was with anybody else, with my dad they where calm, cool, and collected.
I was introduced to Red Steagall as a youngster while working as a stable boy in New Braunfels about 1976.....a fine American and role model for all of us.
Red Steagall has become synonymous with what is good and true about cowboys and ranchers, and good American citizens. He has preserved the western swing and all historic cowboy songs. He is an American icon standing beside John Wayne and others that stood for respect, ethics, and the western way of life.

Red is fabulous! We have met RW Hampton, Don Edwards, Sons of the San Joaquin, Baxter Black know David John and The Comstock Cowboys. Nothing like Cowboy/Western! (not what is called Country music today! A better time for America....
iv'e been accused of looking like this Great Cowboy Poet a few times. Though i reckon too, iv'e been told i favor Jeff Bridges from (The Big Lebowski) Kenny Rogers, even that image captured on The Shroud of Turin. And too boot, well within my walking stride, like ol Sasquatch himself. While the four out of the five resemblances i might have of the above... i can only be certain that His Spirit is at work for sure in the first three. So i just had to see and hear for myself who this Cowboy Poet Might be. And i pray that the measure of honor he has bestowed on that of the Cowboy, resembles that of my book's healing honor for our Soldier's with P.S.T.D.. my 43 yr. old beret is off to you Red. -gilpin 7-28-15 page 12&166 FOR AS ABOVE WITHIN THAT OF OUR SAVIOR ...tTt... In this video Red mentions family and his Mom. I just found out today that Red's Mother passed away in July of 2012 only a few short weeks away from her 95th birthday. I had the chance to meet her on one occasion and after meeting her it was plain to see why Red, Danny and the other 4 kids all turned out the way they did with the values they have.
I ran across this comment and have to say thank you for those kind words. Grandmother Ruth (I’m one of her grandkids) is by far the single greatest influence on me outside of my parents. Her kindness, humor, conviction to doing what’s right and accepting people for who they are will always be something I try to mirror. God Bless 🇺🇸
"All of the skills, traditions, and ways of working with cattle are very much rooted in the Mexican vaquero," Nelson told National Geographic News. "If you are a cowboy in the U.S. today, you have developed what you know from the vaquero."
