I may be under the influence of reading to many old Comix World newsletters, but I'm most excited about that Fantagraphics Willy Murphy book. He was an early collaborator with Harvey Pekar, and also contributed to some Air Pirates comix, as well as doing his own books. Great video!
Metropolitan Books, "Worm" by Edel Rodriguez, $29.99, Release date 11/8. An autobio of someone that grew up in Cuba and came here during the Mariel boatlift. You get a lot of life in Cuba and there are also commentary about the state of the U.S. now with its extremism. Art looks good and I'm going to order it from my LCS.
I went through the Previews Catalog online and found two GNs that look interesting which I will mention in comments below. Also, thanks for mentioning the solicitation from Floating World because Floating World was not an option to select on the online catalog. I had to check twice because the publish date for New York City Outlaws is April 2024!
Nice video as always. I think that Little Lulu solicit must be an “offered again” because they’ve already released it. I’ve heard they suspended that line after 3 volumes because of lackluster sales unfortunately. I’m glad Cinebook publishes European comics in English, but their decision to publish them as 7x10 comic-sized albums is terrible.
Oh, I hadn't heard about Little Lulu's cancellation. That's unfortunate, but not too surprising. I share your frustration with Cinebook's decision to publish most of their books at that smaller size. All of that great art just gets scrunched up.
IDW, "Transitions" by Elodie Durand, an English translation of a 2021 French BD that has good reviews for the French ediition. $19.99, release date 11/8/23. IDW is weird because they have lost Transformers and GI Joe and have had shakeups but then they will publish the English translation of a great French BD and no one hears about it. The same happened with Chaboute's "Yellow Cab" last year which was excellent. This book looks good and is very timely.
I urge people not to sleep on Silver Sprocket. For the last few years they've been puting out some truly stellar books, notably stuff by Mike Sweater, Benji Nate, and Elizabeth Pich, whose Fungirl series is an absolutely disgusting joy.
