The Road is a superb adaptation and graphically a beautiful book. You should see it in the European format size. Hope you get it there also.
That's awesome to hear. I'll keep an eye for it! Thank you.
Floating World got the solicit for Vendetta: Holy Vindicator all messed up... it's not a one-shot, it's issue #5 (continuing on from issue #4, 30 years ago!) - everything by STEVE McArdle (there is no Sean McArdle) lol -- great video!
Thanks for clearing that up, it was pretty confusing. And thanks for watching!
Ultra Heaven 1 by Last Gasp looks cool.
It does. I have a book by the same person, also published by Last Gasp, but I haven't read it.
@@loadingthecanon1919 I heard that book is supposed to be good
Also a new Henry & Glenn comic coming out from Microcosm Publishing.
I love Tom Neely, but I'm not a punk guy and I've resisted the Henry & Glenn stuff so far.
Magnetic really produces beautiful books. I've really only bought one scifi cartoonist and a few toppi books but they are all so beautiful
You're the guy I think of when I see their books. I remember you talking about the sci-fi guy. Eventually I'll stumble across some in a used bookstore and try some different stuff out. I love those rounded corners they do.
This is THE Rick Parker you think it is. I checked it out.
Thanks for confirming. Pretty interesting! That's another one I'll check out in person.
Yellow by Jay Martin was something I preordered, I read his previous GN, not bad.
Nice. I'll keep an eye for it to look at in a store. Was the other book Lost Boy? I've never heard of it before.
It’s a shame that Final Cut is 6X9. I’m glad I bought the French albums as they were released. Editions Cornelius makes some beautiful books.
It seems like an odd choice, right? It's not like Burns is an unproven author.
@@loadingthecanon1919I wonder if its to bot cannibalize sales of the frenxh version? No other explanation.
@@rccomics Or they got cheap!
52:26 I would suggest to consider the last volumen of Tokyo These Days by Taiyo Matsumoto. (PS: Thank you for this monthly flip-trough. It helps a lot.)
Ah, thanks for pointing that out. I usually mention Matsumoto when I see books by him. And thanks for watching!
I've been waiting all year for that J. Webster Sharp book from Avery Hill! I'll probably order direct from them when it comes up for preorder.
I bet it's going to be a beauty.
I'm glad I'm not doing pre-orders this year because you mentioned about ten books I want to buy.🤑
How did I miss I.L. by Tezuka???
I don't blame you! I was pretty surprised to see it there myself.
I can't imagine sitting down and reading a blacksad comic from start to finish
If you've ever read a generic potboiler, that's about it. But with sexy animal lady femme fatales. And Aryan polar bears... you know, the usual. I did meet that guy at a comic show last year. Nice guy!
2:20 as far as I know, very little of the original art still exists. Literally destroyed. The mind boggles!
Ive been looking online for more information on GROUND ZERO COMICS by Leonard Rifas ever since I saw your video, without much luck. I'm so glad you mentioned it!
That was the first that I'd heard of it! If I hear anything, I'll let you know.
Very nice book haul in there. I was suprised to know that Mezzo and Pirus was published over there and by no other than Kitchen Sink. Never understood why Fantagraphics (or others…) never reprinted this one but then again they failed to print the whole “King if the Flies” series, so… If you can try to get the excellent “Love In Vain: Robert Johnson 1911-1938” also by them.
Just finished 2nd Innocent book. Absolute must read. Sakamoto is on another level
Good to know!
Thanks for mentioning the DC Comics Style Guide! I had no idea it was being republished.
One thing that caught my eye was "Last Starry Night" from Black Panel Press. Looks interesting.
I saw that, too, but I wasn't sure what to say about it. That's another interesting publisher.
Ignorant review
right on!
Amar Chitra Katha was a staple of every Indian comics fan, very interesting to see them push towards a Western market. They were more mythological than religious, so I think some non-Hindu readers will get some mileage out of them.
Ordered the Veitch Swamp Thing the other day. And will definitely get the last Peep Show. Rip Joe Matt (and Ed Piskor). Thanks for these Previews vids.
Thanks for watching. Those are both great picks.
I read the book. Liked it and a few days later I found the short video of how the book was made. I appreciated the book even more knowing the struggle they went through to craft the book.
“Jim Lee…What the F***k?” ☠️☠️☠️
18 volumes. Correct sir!
Haha, finally!
"Stuff I've Only Seen in The Comics Journal Ads" makes up about 90% of my comics collecting life! Comics Interview is highly underrated, not surprised you know better. I really enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing your haul.
Isn't Dave Shelton, in SENTENCE, the one who posted his sketchbook art on twitter? Very talented if memory serves.
the first Usagi Yojimbo in colour in that Doomsday Squad
That's very cool, I had no idea.
soooo much good stuff...Floyd Farland!!!! holy shit...
Been waiting for that Luther Arkwright book for a while. It came out in England at least a year ago.
And yes, that's an embarrassing cover.
excellent selection Colin, added a few to my wantlist...
I cheered a little when I saw you got GOLD DIGGER #300! I got my copy when it came out last year, though I still haven't read it yet. You pack a lot of great stuff into this haul.
I've had DOMES on an ebay watchlist for something like four years! It's really beautiful Howarth work, I had no idea it was from the mid-80s. Definitely picking this up now.
“The Talk” was published last year. I just reserved it from my library.
I think I'll do the same.
Ha ha! Who would want Faust as a hardcover?
That book is highly sought after. I saw one new in shrinkwarp for $90 and knew I could probably flip it for double the money.
The KS version new and sealed recently sold for $375 on eBay. I think it’s trash but there is a rabid audience for it.
Ray is right! I wonder how many people that pooped for the deluxe hardcover will actually read the thing.
Great job as always. I found a couple of books that caught my eye: “Yellow” by Jay Martin/Dark Horse. The cover caught my eye and “Wolverton” by PS Art Books Softee;
I saw Yellow, but I didn't have anything to say about it. I saw you mention the Wolverton on IG. I think those PS Art Books are shitty, but I do love Wolverton. I'll wait until I see a copy in person.
Two and a half pages of Will Eisner graphic novels still in print is very impressive. I've never had any real interest in his work after The Spirit, but I may give A Contract With God a try on your recommendation. Remember when these videos were an hour long? Your going to have to start getting the Lunar Distribution catalog. 😅 I kid, you still find a lot of good stuff in Previews every month!
Listening to me ramble for an hour about the Previews catalog is cruel and unusual punishment!
Another episode that will make me spend more money than I planned on LOL.
I feel your pain.
I went ahead and asked my LCS to order Penthouse Comix 2. I asked for the “Big Icky” variant because it was the “safest” cover choice.
Haha!
I don’t care for Jodorowsky either. The Incal was a slog.
I'm convinced that without all of those great artists, no one would care about his comics.
I have Andromeda by Zé Burnay. I got it signed at the Amadora Comics Festival when it came out in... 2018... I think. It's been a while. But I never got around to reading it. His type of art is rare, nobody else around here does this type of realistic detail. Not even Osvaldo Medina, who is pretty detailed, but has a way better sense of narrative (look for Kong the King, two wordless graphic novels Osvaldo did).
Spectacular looking stuff, though my favourite metamorphosis adaptation is still R. Sikoryak's featuring Charlie Brown. Carson Grubaugh of Living the Line features a lot of interesting manga lately, largely underground stuff that looks fabulous
We are definitely on the same page in our opinions of VISCERE. It's meant as a compliment, but Chloe's standout story reminded me a bit of Kazuo Umezz. Tia Roxae has a great way of grabbing your attention with that lush art style, and then you realize it's the most disturbing image you've ever seen! Hope to see many more anthologies like VISCERE and POISON PILL, in the tradition of TWISTED SISTER, in the future.
The Miracleman Silver Age TPB is the collection of the seven issue-series that finished this month and at $24.99 is a hell of a lot better deal than buying the single issues at $4.99 (as I did). I have not read the final issue yet.
Oh, that's good to know. I'm surprised Marvel didn't do a fancy hardcover first. Let me know what you think of the story when you're done with it.
Great review as always. Some books I wasn’t aware of, as usual.
Hi. It’s 18 total volumes lol.
Haha, thanks, Ray!
Haven't cared to buy an issue of Back Issue for awhile might get that.
Thanks for reminding me about the Ablaze two-packs!
Fun video. I used to work for Bedrock City comics in Houston from about 1992-1997, so it brought back some memories. I can't believe Fat Jacks ordered no Fantagraphics! Eightball was a perennial seller back then. For a long time, I had a copy of Capital City's first distribution catalog, but eventually let it go like I did a lot of other things (including the Epic Akiras and the Rolf Stark Rain that you mentioned here; I had forgotten all about Rain until I saw this video; I need to hunt down a copy to reread it). Another thing of note - that Dark Horse 5 year anniversary special has the first chapter of Sin City, which is only mentioned as a new Frank Miller solo story in the solicitation. It turned out to be pretty huge!
Thanks for sharing your memories. That's great. I'd like to track down an issue of Advanced Comics. Not that I think that it will be much different than Previews, but it's what I used ordered from when I first started shopping at comic shops. If you're around, I'll be going through another old Previews catalog on ComicKkrakk's channel tomorrow at 9ish PM Central time.
I ended up ordering that Scott Shaw book. I remember having his ODDBALL COMICS trading card set and liking his Star*Reach work. Very curious as to what's included.
