  • amzn.to/3QVDPte TopTes Combustible Gas Leak Detector is sensitive to a dozen different gasses including the common ones of propane, methane and butane. Great for home appliances and camping compressed gas stoves. At almost $100 less than the Klein gas leak detector, it puts safety in the hands of almost any toolbag owner.
The Klein has more features and a much greater sensitivity. However, for many applications, having this TopTes sensor is vastly better than no sensor, and as you could see in the comparison, their performance on this common task was quite similar. If you need a more sensitive detector, by all means get one since you have specific needs. But if you are new to gas sensing and are interested in a basic affordable tool, then I can recommend the TopTes.
Note: There is a plastic film over the display that should be removed to improve clarity.

Would this tool help me to determine if my 21 year old, contractor-installed, gas-top range/oven is releasing any residual/harmful, undetected gas into the breathing space of my kitchen and home when the appliance is not in use?

It would if you had it in the airspace of 50 ppm or more. Maybe enclose the area you suspect a leak in plastic sheeting (stovetop, supply line, etc.) or toss it in the oven and let it work.

Like how you just casually say you’re outside with your snap on grill 🤣

That grill and I spend a lot of time together. Some time I take it for granted.

Not just for outdoor use and a must if you have natural gas in your house. I use a ElectriBrite Y201 detector to check my furnace, hot water and wood burning fireplace's starter at least twice a year. It has caught a bad valve a couple times.

That ElectriBrite looks to be in the middle of this TopTes and the Klein. I assume the sensors are all quite similar and maybe even sourced from the same factory. But the interface and build quality are what makes the price differences. The TopTes is much more like a pen-style voltage/EMF tester, while the Klein is a full-on multimeter. The important thing is to have one and use it.

@@lastbesttool Yes. You pay for the name and some build quality, but they all do basically the same thing. It was budget friendly for a tool I rarely use. Agree 100%... use it!

Doc, you have a favorite screwdriver magnetizer like the Klein orange keychain , Wera speedboat looking one, or the normal box ones? Been looking for a $5 garage sale degausser/demagnetizer too but it’s like they end up in the trash more times than not.

I have a couple but the Klein works the best but also has the smallest openings. The General accepts larger things like punches.

It's just a rebrand of a standard $20 AliExpress gas leak detector. Shouldn't this be marked #ad ?

Thank you for your concern. This is not an ad. Many tools are rebranded. I work with them in my videos. This video like many of mine is to bring tools to the attention of viewers. It is not a paid ad and Toptes has no control over what I say or do in the video. Thanks for your concern, but I will not be sponsored by a company although I am asked almost daily. I will also never buy a tool only to be reimbursed by the company. Companies ask me all the time to take their tools for a ride. I check out the tool first and if it fits my need or interested, I agree to allow them to send it to me. I have a whole playlist of sensors and probes and will continue to add to it. If there is a key ring sized combustible gas detector out there I will be happy to work with it and make a video if it works.

You do know that if this is an ad then you are legally obliged to declare that? This thing has about 2 reviews on Amazon UK.

Thank you for your concern. This is not an ad. I make reviews on tools. Toptes asked me if I wanted to try their tools. I worked with the Klein a while back and the price was an issue for some. In order to show another option, I tried the toptes and it was worth a video. Toptes is not paying me nor has any say in my content. I’ve had this sensor for a while and Toptes recently informed
Me that it would soon be available in the US Amazon store. That bit of info was mentioned in the video because otherwise there would be comments pointing that out. I try to make videos that don’t have a short shelf life, but sometimes include time references. As far as UK reviews, I do not know what that means in this context. Sorry about that.
