- It's the beginning of winter in Mauritius!!!!
I don't know about you guys but winter is my favourite time of the year in Mauritius! It's the perfect combination of cool mornings and warm afternoons!
We woke up one morning to the crispy air of Mauritian winter and headed to the Morne mountain for a sunrise picnic. The temperature was perfect and the view of the morne's lagoon made us glad we woke up at dawn.
We then decided to welcome the winter by spending a few days on the misty highlands of Mauritius. We went guava picking in Chamarel and Plaine Champagne and filled baskets of guavas for Vic to make us some jam. The next day we headed to Moka (centre of Mauritius) and visited Eureka Falls. The vegetation was breathtaking! We were walking in an amazing mossy canyon and went swimming in a refreshing waterfall! What more could we ask for?
Our winter expeditions continued with a sunrise at Grand Bassin. We had no idea what the place had in store for us. As we drove through the mist we slowly saw the gigantic Grand Bassin statues emerge from the clouds. It was truly MYSTICAL!
We then made our way to Bois Chéri (Tea plantation in Mauritius) to enjoy the rest of the sunrise. The sun piercing through the fog made us feel like we were in Lord of the Rings!
I can't wait for all of the adventures this winter holds!

Will, I've seen Guyave de Chine plant selling at Bunnings in Australia. Couldn't believe it. It's a fun day picking up Guyave de Chine at Plaine Champagne. I miss that a lot. One fruit I also missed that I haven't seen here in Australia is Zamblon. Do they still have them in Mauritius?
They have Goyaves de Chine in Australia!!? That’s incredible!!
I love Zamblon, they’re one of my favorite fruits! I’ve seen a few trees around the island but it’s so hard to catch them right and ripe! 😉 birds seem to like them even more than we do!
Hey! No ways that’s crazy! I thought bunnings only sold snags 🤣 it’s so much fun going to look for them. When were you here last? And I don’t think they have zamblon in aus 😅 yes they are still here but I don’t really like them 🤣🤣
@@willtevs It's not often you will see Goyaves de Chine plant on sale at Bunnings. On a few occasion that is available, you should grab it if you want to plant in your garden. The only reason I didn't get one is because it is prone to fruit flies (ever seen little worms wiggling inside the fruit). Bunnings sells almost everything and sausage sizzle on weekends. Guava and Zamblon taste good with chilli salt. Last time in MRU was 10 years ago. Miss the local food.
@@victoriaduthil3673 Used to have hawkers selling Zamblon on their motorbikes. May be this generation is gone. There are Mauritian people selling local dish in Australia. There is a good one in Perth called 'La Bouffe Mauritian Bistro' (facebook.com/labouffeperth/posts/2988350628074971?notif_id=1620884651136856¬if_t=page_followed_contents_awareness&ref=notif) and every time I travel to the Perth I get to eat their food.
