I had a 2019 CRV LX AWD which I bought with so many expectations coming from a 2002 CRV AWD, that car was a tank in the snow, never let me down, I sold it with almost 350K kms to a friend and still on the road today, so I decided to go for a 17 years of technological advancement and got the 2019 CRV, I used to love my CRV for his roominess, comfort and fuel economy, I did not had the change to try out the AWD system properly due to mild winters where I live in Toronto, Canada, until several weeks back when we had a pretty significant snow storm that put the AWD to the test, well my friends the love was gone, I cannot understand how come HONDA makes such a weak AWD system, I got stock with the front driver side wheel barely making contact with the tarmac and that was enough to shut down the entire AWD system, the computer cannot split torque to the wheels that have traction, so the wheel with less traction in on free spin which the computer takes as just revving the engine and to protect the turbo will cut power at 3000 rpm, the result was 7 hours stuck, overheating the AWD system every time I was trying to get the vehicle unstuck and had to shut down for 10 minutes at the time. My friend with his OLD 2002 CRV came to rescue me and pulled me out, I followed him and every time we got to a spot where snowbanks were higher, I had to negotiate the situation with momentum while he was going through like a walk in the park. Subaru Foresters were passing me like they were driving on grass, I now own a 2021 Subaru Forester Limited and let me tell you, it is bigger inside that the CRV, the new 2.5 DI Subaru boxer engine makes 8 HP less that the Honda CRV on paper but in reality it is way more responsive and with linear power delivery, technology and safety features makes the CRV looks like a oversize toy, gas mileage is better in the CRV in the city only, about 1 litre per 100Kms more than the Subaru, in the highway I found it to be both the same, the Subaru is way more refine, more light inside and the AWD system with dual X-mode will rescue any of the new generation CRV anytime, also the Subaru is cheaper than the CRV with similar equipment, it has more interior storage in the back under the floor, the steering more precise and power is more than adequate. The Subaru feels more balanced and planted on the road that the CRV at higher speeds and take turns way better if one push the car on those twisty roads.

    It's not a 2.5 turbo engine.
    It's 2.5 naturally aspirated engine.

Exactly. If they wanted it turbo the 2.4 turbo is the no brainer. Any effective turbo boost will shove oil past the rings. It is a poor bandaid for displacement.Turbo is great for light weight racing engines that get refreshed often anyway. Subaru isn't stupid enough to chance putting an oil user in their top selling model. Forester consumers could give a fuck about extra power. They only care about the most superb handling crossover utility. They would not care if it came with a 40hp Yanmar. LOL

I ordered a 2022 Forester Touring after test driving all of these 2021 models.
The Forester handled much superior with its symmetrical awd and lower center of gravity boxer.
I'm 6"4" and the Forester had noticeably more drivers leg room.
The seats in the Forester were about the same comfort as the rest with exception to the CX5 that were horribly uncomfortable for long trips.
The Forester had superior "usable" space with seats folded down. Extreme important factor for my life style. The CRV was slightly better.
Forester was quietest of them all and Rav4 was an unacceptable rattle trap at its price point.
Forester had superior Safety driving features that only came optional on the others.
CX5 was by far the best looking, best transmission with engine performance that was not screaming like it was getting ready to self destruct.
Yet CX5 failed miserably in the usable utility and comfort. Could not stack up to Subaru symmetrical awd. handling.
Rav4 had great power and of coarse supreme reliability history that we should never ignore.
Ra4 felt like it was wallowing through the curves compared to Forester.
Rav4 has massive more price points to get just the options you may desire.
My #1 pick overall was the CRV with superior usable space, great comfort and plenty of power.
Except Honda was my most trusted reliable vehicle for 25 years. Then they straight up lied to the public about their failed oil consuming engines. It was very similar to the scandal that Ford was known for in the past. I just cannot trust Honda anymore. What a shame!
Note: I have repaired autos for the past 30 years. All Japanese brands except Nissan are more dependable than Korean, European and Domestic brands, with few exceptions. The very worst of the late model vehicles I have worked on were Kia and Nissan. Some understanding about Subaru: not many aftermarket parts will perform well or last. For many of the parts you must purchase more expensive OEM. When they age, they can run into some money, in comparison to their competition.
Some understanding of my choice: I own a hi-powered Sunday driver, for when I need my fix. I have owned beautiful lux and sporty vehicles of most major brands. I'm old and extremely active outdoors. I travel far to campout and compete in a sport. I have a limited budget but far from struggling.

Hi L Twig, during my car shopping I drove the 2021 Forester Touring and The CR-V EX-L 2021. They are both good vehicles, great comfortable space, seating, cargo and handling. The Forester has the better AWD system which is Symmetrical over the CR-V Real time AWD in comparison . At the end, I went with the CR-V because the price and payments we're better overall.

Yes the Forester is far superior over any other AWD vehicle.
I love my touring with brown interior

Nice comparison! Just got the Forester, I like it. But way too many buttons and not really intuitively placed and the use of too many colors for the icons. I never know what’s off or on!

I actually got a 2021 CR-V EX-L in March and I love it. The driving dynamics must’ve been updated from 2019-2021 because my 2021 drives way better than my 2019 did. And way smoother than my 2019.

@@barbz_zayne I just love your choice of utility vehicle! I was always a fan and life long owner of dependable Hondas. However, I would caution to do your research on the most recent oil consumption scandal. I'm highly knowledgeable of engine manufacturing, Honda being the most reliable of all time. I'm a car buff. I have worked on autos all my life. I did massive research and found that Honda straight up lied and did a poor job of taking care of their customers on the massive oil consumption issue. I would not keep that vehicle after warranty. I would monitor its oil consumption very closely. The president of Honda Motor Co., who made the most reliable motors in the world, recently retired that position. This new leadership has shown to me to be highly untrustworthy, to the likes of Ford in the past. I'm jealous that you get to drive this beautiful machine everyday. But be careful man. Do your homework.

@@ltwig476 Thank you! Yeah I had a 19 CR-V EX-L AWD that I traded in w/ 20,000 miles for the same thing just in 2021 form 😂 they gave me a deal I couldn’t pass up, lowering my interest rate and payment on the 21 CR-V. I love my 2021 CR-V more than the 2019, i would never own another car unless it was a Mustang or an Accord. But don’t be jealous, I have a 2014 Nissan Altima SV work car that was given to me as a gift last Christmas and I drive that everyday to keep miles off my CR-V. My CR-V is basically my weekend car/grocery trip car LOL I drive the Altima Monday-Friday 😂

Love both these cars. After tons of research I went to buy the 2019 CRV EX this past weekend. I walked out with a 2018 CR-V EX for 27.9k. I like it a lot. Suburu as much as I wanted a Forrester, I fell like they are stuck 8n old ways. Also, reviewers don't really Express how punchy the CRV is. But I've watched countless videos of people hitting the gas on a Forester and you can count the Mississippi's before it goes. CR-V was obvious choice.
