If anyone wants to go Darjeeling from Siliguri..either take the govt bus (NBSTC) which definately takes longer time or you have lot of option for shared car (opposite of Tanzing Norgey Bus Terminus) Rs 250 per person... 2.45 hr max.Bdw I'm from north bengal, very near to Siliguri & I visited darjeeling solo last month using public transport.Don't be trapped... there are lot of ppl like that roaming around you not only in Siliguri but in almost all tourist places across India.
Very sorry for the bad experience. Siliguri is a city full of scammers and fraudsters. They even try to loot the actual residents as well. There are no fixed transportation rates. There are only 10% good people in Siliguri who are good people and old residents. Actual residents of Siliguri is leaving this place for metro cities and that void is getting filled by outsiders. So be super cautious when in that place.
Please don't spread fake info. Yes ofcourse they can, drivers get commission from the hotels but they will not insist you after you deny or tell them that you already have booked. I have met one of the nicest and most helpful people in Darjeeling.

Tbh the bestest option is to get a shared cab from Siliguri busstand or NJP station. It takes 200-400 per person depending on the season. Just look for shared cabs only where you've to share the cab with other strangers (solo , group or family) I'm a solo woman traveler and that's what I did. It's a lot more easier than a lot of other hill stations in India . I'm so sorry you had to face such but this ain't usual !

Even we faced same in Hyderabad.. jo bhi auto wala mile uska kisi pearl ke shop se connection hota tha.. aur pearl lene ke badh bohut hi ache se sab information diya.. aur job doosre auto valon ko hamne kaha ki pearl leliya hai toh voh har place ke peeche ke side pe chod dete the aur hamein itna door chalke jana padta tha... Google map ka route dikha te toh kehte the ki voh short route jaante hain.. hamne bhi maan liya kyunki voh locals the... Seriously after that i dont want to trust any auto drivers
Don't travel on bus if you traveling for the first time .. there will be sharing vehicle scorpion or Bolero 200-250 3hrs travel .. n they stop in hotel for eat n washroom.. And take vehicle frm Darjeeling More or siliguri Junction

This happend to me 😃... Taxi wala will irritate you and they force you to stay in their hotel if you select them, best choice is that just wait for government bus only @108₹ and try to catch it in morning because you will get stuck in traffic. Good, keep it up 👍
Usually i don't comment but I did today... I was in Jaipur and wanted to visit Albert hall and bapu bazar. A e rickshaw wala told aaj bazar band h . Aapko dusri market chod du and I said yes. He took me to maharani market which turned out into a small shop .. i was fooled and got scammed in shop. Never fall for autowalas. They have comission fixed and fool you. Always go for govt bus.

Darjeling me taxi wale scam krte h 2500 me sumo final hui till airport but waha pahoch kr 3500 demand krne laga ….other taxi wale bi uski support me aa gye even though we r 6 young boys they r almost ready to fight…we had a flight to catch so we settled in 3000
if u dont go to washroom and hold it for so long - u will suffer from Kidney issues later on. its better to use google maps to hunt for cafes and restaurants with washrooms in advance, this will save u from lots of health issues later on
You should catch private sharing vehicle to Darjeeling from Siliguri which cost Rs 250 per person. These passenger vehicle will take around 3 hours to reach Darjeeling. You will find such vehicles at Siliguri junction syndicate, Heritage Pradhan Nagar Sybdicate,Syndicate in Darjeeling more etc etc etc. Best place in Siliguri Darjeeling junction

The road you showed is going the opposite direction of Darjeeling - Coronation Bridge and Bengal Safari park area. That road leads to Sikkim and Darjeeling. You have to head the opposite side where the toy train track runs
Don't travel in government bus. Just take a normal share taxi front seat, and regarding hotel tell them you have already booked it online and tell them any name of hotel from internet over there. They will not disturb you again. And if you wanna visit again, please contact me.
I have experienced that when you want to go to the loo and the bus driver does not stop at a clean toilet destination....it is terrible.😮..... PM should focus on building more clean public toilets.....😮
To be honest I'm from Siliguri and folks here are with the mindest of looting people as they consider it a tourist place .but it also a important commercial hub for northeast.You can say living in Kolkata is less expensive than in Siliguri 🙃
