Michael is actually universally funny and smart...
unlike another German comedian "Henning Wehn" living in the UK for +20 years and today appears in the many English panel comedy shows as "the" German (self acclaimed comedy ambassador) and basically employs common stereotypes about Germans to his fellow Brits -- still in a terrible German accent. The funny thing about Henning is if UK comedians in these panels make fun of him being a stereotypical German.
Henning found his niche and it obviously works in Britain (and maybe the Commonwealth), so good for him, but except in his hometown he's an unknown in German comedy mainstream. I have not found any stand-up show of Henning to see how he performs on stage in front of a non-TV audience and if he can actually be any funny.
To some extend the French comedian "Alfonse" does the same in German TV, depicting French stereotypes to Germans with his thick accent many but the French themself would find funny 😉 Like Henning I don't think Alfonse is very well know in his country of origin.
