    Hi Steve, thanks for your videos, enjoy watching and learning from them.
    Any reason for me to, "keep my new TP-Link Router closer to my current [Spectrum supplied] Modem & Router than to connect it (the _new TP-Link] with ethernet to be placed two rooms away?" Two rooms away, which is much_ closer to our deck / hot tub for a wireless connection when on the deck... Thanks, in advance, for your insight, sir!

    If I want to use coaxial cable for backbone I know I need an adapter at each point location but do I need a "partner" adapter at my router or just one adapter at my router with a splitter to multiple coaxial cables?

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's my understanding that you need an adapter at each end.

    Hopefully easy question that you have time to answer. I have an EE fibre router getting just under 28 Meg download and 7 upload. My question is can I I have two routers on the same line coming in one I would use as 5G to control tablets laptops etc, and the other one I would use as 2.4 to control my 38 smart devices. As I think the 38 smart devices are slowing my Wi-Fi speed down and making my Google speakers slow. Thanks for any help I would love a video about this if possible

    Hi Steve, thanks for your videos, enjoy watching and learning from them.
    For the Deco range, in order to do wired backhaul, due to the limited Ethernet ports on the Deco, it’s advisable to link the main Deck unit(router) to a switch, preferably a TP-Link switch, like you have.
    I’ve tried with my DLink Switch and it doesn’t connect. TP-Link also suggests using their own brand for the best compatibility. Have you tried with any other brand switch to do the backhaul?
    I’ve another TP-Link switch I have, will try that sometime down the road. Just FYI for the community to take note. Thanks.

      In my network closet i currently have the Deco XE75 Pro connected to a Netgear PoE switch and everything seems to be working fine. Even with a wired backhaul setup.

      Hi Steve, I found your wonderful channel and with my in-laws coming to stay with me all next week I am desperately hoping you can save my Thanksgiving holiday by fixing my very similar Wi-Fi network as yours!
      I live in a house built about 15 years ago with ethernet ports installed in most rooms that lead to a patch panel Downstairs where I also I have a cable modem WAN connected by Ethernet to the “main node” (router) of a TP Link XE75 Deco 3 pack. LAST NIGHT I set up the other 2 nodes on the 1st & 2nd floor with a SIMPLE wireless 6E backhaul. All my wireless devices seem to work OK with this set up - BUT I WANT MY WIRED DATA PORTS TO ALSO WORK AGAIN FOR MY TV, APPLE TV, COMPUTER, PRINTER, ETC. This is where I need REAL ADVICE FROM YOU!
      I tried plugging my “assigned main” XE75 Into a D-link switch and connected ALL the patch panel ports from around the house to the switch also but the D link just didn’t work. Possibly creating loops?? I read the XE75 manual which suggests using a TP Link Model: TL - SG1166E gigabit switch & The TP link switch worked much better, but there are still many glitches and some devices simply don’t connect to the internet via the WIRED ethernet ports - which all passed the correct pin tests.
      I want to start by Plugging all 3 mesh nodes (the main & 2 satellites) into the gigabit switch to create a wired, ethernet backhaul. - but I’m nervous about plugging in all the other home data ports.
      My question is this: i’m not an expert in a mixed wired and wireless mesh system. To avoid creating loops, should I do something technical like give the 2 satellite nodes static IP addresses? Then should I somehow create a “static route“ from each satellite node to the main router to ensure all traffic gets routed to the proper “main” gateway?? Would doing that even make sense?? If so, can you tell me how to create a static route between the satellites & main node of XE75?
      I know very little about network switches. My TP-Link TL - SG1166E gigabit switch is on managed, but has a GUI. But the Default IP address is 192.16 8.0.1 just like the main mesh router - so how would I connect to the switch GUI wirelessly from a web browser if the default IP is the same??
      Any help you can provide is appreciated , even if it’s just pointing me in the right direction. I thought everything would be plug and play but even the TP link manual for the XE 75 acknowledges trouble with certain brand wired, ethernet switches. Surely there must be some settings on the switch that will provide the best chance for success.
      THANK YOU 🙏🏻

    Please help! I have spent countless hours trying to figure out my home network.
    I have my modem in my detached garage along with my work computer (Ethernet only). I need wifi in the home for the kids but can’t figure out if the best option is to connect a wifi router to the router in my garage via 150ft Ethernet cable? Or do I need an extra switch? Or something else?

    • @greenrockcards
      @greenrockcards ปีที่แล้ว

      Currently I only have a netgear nighthawk r8000 (would get to buy additional router or whatever you recommend)

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, running an ethernet cable to the house would be the most reliable option.
      I would recommend getting a Mesh Wi-Fi system. Have the main router connected to the modem in the garage and the satellite connected to the 150' ethernet cable running over to the house. This way one of the Wi-Fi points is in the house giving it better coverage.
      This is the kit I'd recommend. TP-Link Deco XE75 (WiFi 6E) - amzn.to/3li8HZO

    Hi Steve, i was hoping you could shed some light on my question. I have ethernet running to most areas in my house. My modem is located in the garage by default. If I hook up a mesh node to the ethernet cable in 1 if the rooms. Would I be able to connect a 2nd node on the 2nd floor without the nodes actually connected to each other? They would technically both be connected to the isp modem.

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea that’ll work. Node 1 and 2 should connect wirelessly.

    • @1vtlegendz2
      @1vtlegendz2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh. So that's not considered wired backhaul

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1vtlegendz2 Sorry, maybe i misunderstood the scenario.
      So modem is in the garage and you're running a network cable from the modem to the house where you're plugging in the first mesh node, right?

    • @1vtlegendz2
      @1vtlegendz2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SteveDOES Yea. So basically, modem to node 1 in living room (ethernet). Then modem to node 2 in upstairs bedroom (ethernet). So technically both are getting direct connection through the isp modem. Would this be considered wired backhaul. Or because there's actually no communication/connection between the 2 nodes it doesn't count? I'm kinda new to this.

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1vtlegendz2 Yea, that wouldn't work. One of the nodes has to be the main node that the others connect to. So in your situation i would either do node 1 in living room and a wireless connection to node 2 OR get a 3 node kit and do main node in the garage, have that connect to a switch, and then backhaul a node to the living room and the other one upstairs.

    First time viewer, I did not know coax can be converted to ethernet! So I can essentially use the MoCA adapters to get LAN connections? I was looking into extend my wifi but if I can use the coax thats not being used in my room to get wired connection that be awesome! However its good to know you can boost wifi speeds with this method.

      Just step by step..check if plug and play in all routers is activated... ipv6. Is on... deactivate firewall for a moment.....connect by blank list MAC address ....last option connect with hotspot Wi-Fi phone same as you home...and after that try with your home Wi-Fi....

    Hi everybody! I have a quick question. Maybe someone can help me.
    My ISP, Optimum, gave me a modem/router which they charge me about $12/month.
    I want to buy my own but the thing is that the wire that comes inside my house is fiber optic cable. The port in the modem/router is fiber as well. All modems and router I found are either for cat6 or coaxial but no fiber.
    Any suggestions on how to fix it?
    Thanks!

    • @Daltondoubledeuce
      @Daltondoubledeuce ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure this will help but my carrier says if you have fiber optic you must use their equipment, you can not bring your own. Might want to check with Optimum. Cheers.

    Steve, always love & learn from your videos. With using a coax & then converting it to use it as an Ethernet connection could. Be a game changer. One ? Would be does then does the coax connector become 100% use as only an pseudo Ethernet cable, thus losing its use for a cable or satellite connection? Thanks
