The heated floors keep the floors dryer due to the heat. Makes the barn look lots more comfortable and clean. We have them in our hog barn as well as the farm shop. Very nice 😊
Thanks for teaching a city kid (actually a retired Lutheran Pastor) from Davenport, Iowa, about dairy farm work. Enjoyed the tour of your facility. Will be back to learn more about what you do, and how you do it.
Wow.....a milking parlor were you don't get a cow plop in the eye! I tell folks there's not a part of my body cow manure hasn't seen! Wish I had this to work with 45 years ago! Great video!
I grew up milking 45 cows in a tie stall barn in the southeastern part of Pennsylvania back in the late 80s & early 90's on my grandparents dairy farm. I was always so fascinated with milking parlors & the technicality of them, and dreamed of building one on my grandparents farm one day. Unfortunately that didn't happen and after a long financial struggle, they had to sell off the herd and eventually the land. Its nice to see dairy farms like yours and 10th Generation Dairyman still thriving and making it look good while doing it! Local dairy farms are few and far between anymore. Keep up the good work!
About 35 years ago I built a few dairy barns in NS Can. They were more or less state of the art then. This is fantastic! I did some concrete but mostly structural. Parlours, electrical and so on were all subbed. The biggest one I did was for 300 plus milking and was the biggest job I ever did. New barns here are mostly steel frame now and robotic milkers are making inroads especially on the smaller ~ 100 cow herds. We did some slat floor and some with ally scrapers which I am a little surprised you did not use.
Thank you for your wonderful tour of your milk parlor operations and where the cows reside when not being milked. My first time on your site and a supportive fan of the Canadian Dairy scene.
We used to use DeLaval automatic takeoffs in a tie stall barn and had that system since the early 90s but as of 2018, we got a robotic milking barn with Lely.
A major investment in a modern dairy facility. An excellent explanation and well presented tour of the facility. Anxious to see vlogs of the facility in operation. Best of success 🐄 🐄 🐄 🐄 🐄
Wonderful tour you have a great facility there sir! Leaps and bounds above what I grew up milking in.... Looks like it’s much better for both the cows and the workers. Awesome set up!
Awesome video! Great drone footage. Thanks for explaining the whole operation to this Ontario boy. We did a tour of Shamrock Dairy Farm near Tucson, Arizona. Quite the operation but they don’t have to contend with our cold winters. 🇨🇦
I am from New Zealand and I really love watching your video's. You do have a massive setup on your dairy farm . We are not even close to having dairy sheds like that at all. It's only because we don't have snow in most places of New Zealand just cold air for winter lol. Thank you for your video's.
that's because our cows here live in the outdoors, even down in Otago where it can get very cold. Probably one of the reason why NZ has the best dairy industry in the world.
Glad to see our younger generation out working so hard, and not just playing video games. You have a lot of great equipment to help you. Love your videos
Nice set up. Our family farm in lower Adirondack mountains in up state New York USA is a small farm because of mountains. But it’s one of 5 of the oldest working farms in USA. There’s plenty of money for small farm but not big ones anymore town has lake so tourists are building lake houses. Wish our family farm was as big as yours and had the equipment.
I wish I could come there to work I would for room board to be in a place like this you have a very beautiful farm good luck with it I sure. Hope you succeed
SaskDutch Kid I guess not enough son compares to Ontario. I see in your newer videos you have snow and we already got green grass here . By the way we always goto winter fare in Toronto. I will be looking forward see you guys in Toronto . big fan of you.
Happy cows = more milk. That's a lovely setup built to last a long time. Thank your deity of choice that Canadian dairy quotas didn't get thrown under the bus It's really good that young farmers are embracing TH-cam etc. to show people how things are actually done in modern ag. There are very few modern operations that don't meet this kind of standard, regardless of size of operation. Whether you milk 30 cows or 3000, keep them healthy, happy, and comfortable, or you will go under fast these days. The average person who goes and grabs milk on the way home has no idea how much care and effort went in to delivering that product. The level of knowledge needed to be viable in ag these days is immense.
I work for a crane company. Long story short. We did a barn for the Amish. We set the trusses for them 100ft wide. They wanted the first one in the air at 6am. At 12 :15 we were done and set 168 trusses. It was amazing how fast they set them.
Maybe someday I would be a guest at your farm if let me it is an old mans dream I wish you and your family nothing but the best your animals are treated so well and you really like them I like to see that
Hey Jan! So I watched most of your Videos and I have to say: Great Farm, you‘re doing a great Job, your Cows look healthy and comfortable! Keep up the great work! 😃👍🏻 Greetings from northern Germany Jann
If the dairy i worked at back in 1978 had this setup, hell i never would’ve left.. only had a 5 stall each side. Technology sure has changed... good luck SaskDutch Kid in future with growing of herd..
Really amazing! Looks to be well thought out and it’s nice to see dairy farming looking ahead to the future. I found one thing for you to consider. You showcased having 2 skidsters. One dirty, one clean, but you park them in the same area. Cross contamination is unavoidable. Just my 2 cents.
You have done a great job thinking through these videos.. You are a smart young man.. I am sure you parents are super proud of you..The area I live in use to have allot of dairies but they are slowly closing, .. Again Great job..
Jan you are the best at explaining everything you do, by the way I’ve lost count how many times I’ve watched this vlog. Two reasons why I watch this again and again 1. It’s so damn entertaining and 2 . I’m waiting for your next post hint hint! Stay safe Jan and keep the farm clean.
Hi Jan, Your video skills are incredible. I grew up on a large dairy farm in Pennsylvania during the 70s and 80s. We were milking around 550 cows back then. It is great to see a new and modern set up like you guys have. Do you raise all your bull calf's as steers and then sell them? Keep up the Great work and stay warm up there.
Hi, I have been watching many of your videos on youtube but on my TV. I could not figure how to hit like on the TV. I like them aLL! I appreciate your time and effort to bring these videos to us! I am especially interested in Dairy Farming because I was a Dairy Farmer in Ohio until 1978. I was overcome with silage gas and became ill. Due to the illness I was forced to sell out. Our Auction was the day the Blizzard hit Ohio in January of 78! Because of the weather I lost my ass and was never able to get back into farming! I have missed it so much all my life! Again! Thank you!
Great setup .Just wondered why u went with the 12 unit double up instead of a 24 unit straight.24 straight would give better throughput of cows per hour
SaskDutch Kid straight is always faster than double up.12 unit double up like yours would have same throughout per hour as a 20 unit straight.Hello from dairy farmer in Ireland
I hate to say it but Swift Current Colony barn is set up way nicer, New barn as well, I can understand that costs have to be looked at and sometime the pockets arnt deep enough. You need to set up a gate/ fence around that sewer pit no one will servive falling in there.
That is a beautiful set up. Must have cost a bunch of milk. What did you do with the herd while building the new place? Does the milking area smell like sour milk? My grandad was the butter maker in his small town in Minnosota. The creamery was next to his house. Long time ago...
That is a very impressive barn. Nice tour 👍
Wow this is insane! You totally inspired the last 3 months of my TH-cam channel! Love your videos!

At the end of their lactation they go in a coral for 2 months.
Very clean and organized operation. You and your family have a beautiful operation!
My grandpa started his dairy in 1908, sure wish he could see this! Thanks for the tour!

You have an amazing facility including your additions on the feed and seed storage and ingredients alley
Wow, real plywood, no OSB. Nice to see you did it right. Blessings!

So you'll work for free as long as you have food & a place to sleep?
Brand new, looks good and clean. Have you thought about installing solar panels ? Your roof is big enough to generate the enough power for full barn.
Nah wouldn't pay up here in saskatchewan
