"Well I wrote this song called 'Waterloo Sunset' years ago and it was a big hit obviously and I have re-recording it on this album with the Kinks Choral Collection just coming out and they thought it would be an interesting idea to come back to the south bank, this is roughly where I first thought of the idea and performed it here and so that is why I am here tonight doing it."

STORYLINE:
WATERLOO SUNSET AT WATERLOO BRIDGE
Ray Davies, frontman for 60's group The Kinks, performed his classic hit 'Waterloo Sunset' on Waterloo Bridge in London on Thursday night (11JUNE09).
The one off performance was to promote the release of The Kinks Choral Collection which comes out on next week.
The album includes a new recording of the hit track which was first released by The Kinks in 1967.
"The Kinks Choral Collection is just coming out and they thought it would be an interesting idea to come back to the south bank, this is roughly where I first thought of the idea," explained Davies.
The new version was recorded with the 65-strong Crouch End Festival Chorus who Davies collaborated with at the Electric Proms in 2007
The Choral Collection by Ray Davies is released on 15 June

Life goes by so quickly. Yesterday we were still young with long hair, with this smash hit. Today we are old and gray, but the memories remain.... The one in the background feels it...
"Waterloo Sunset" is a beautiful composition.
Love the one with the choir and this one, very pretty indeed.
The Kinks are a band that swept through the 60s with Ray as the songwriter and vocalist.
His brother Dave was an innovator on his guitar that gave the songs an edge for the Kinks.
Glad Ray and Dave are still with us.
😊😊💕💕
Just magical with the choir, such a great song, cheers Ray !!
Man the kinks were such a great band..one of the best
Ray Davies. Very special. 7th child. Born on the summer solstice.
Amazing. Knowing the background of this song it left me with goosebumps and tears in my eyes.
Beautiful.
What memories this triggers fir me.. And that guy behind him... Same vibe
THANKS RAY
Totally with you, man in beige jacket.
Spotted him too. Lovely.
GOAT.
wow that was amazing
Watch the man in the jacket on the left. He is (or nearly is) crying.I can imagine why.
Awwww that man's face is priceless. It's what I love about music - it just moves you to your core sometimes.
@@crazy4beatles I think he is the drummer of Fleetwood Mac,?
It means so much this song and whilst it might be about a specific place it’s universal at the same time. I feel the same way about Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘America’.
Ray wrote some of the best British ever
Dear beige man in the back: I feel you!
Brilliant!!!
Ik krijg tranen in me ogen,zo mooi
I love how there's only likes on this video :)
The only problem with Ray's story is that he said it was originally called "Liverpool Sunset". He changed the location because The Beatles had just put out Penny Lane. Ray didn't want people to think he was following their lead by writing about a Liverpool location so he changed it. So the Waterloo Bridge wasn't the inspiration for the tune.
Liverpool or not... this song is outstanding. Best ever!!!!!!!!!!
No
Ray Davies and his great ego,but he is great as well as brother Dave
