Forgive the snark, but I'll give ya a couple reasons: 4 seats is one. Fact remains the E-AB market is generally pretty apathetic to the family flyer. it's a DINK/empty nester market. RV-10s priced around that of a used SR-22 is another one. That defeats the purpose of E-AB in the first place (cost cutting).. Cabin comfort would be another one. Big slow cans are comfy, look how they're sitting and overlapping arms in that Lancair. Other than that, agree 100%, I would not have my Arrow if I could find it in the experimental world.
There was an attempt to create a "primary non-commercial" category, as part as the signed legislation by POTUS 44 which was the "part 23 re-write". The category was formal part of the recommendations by the ARC (Aviation Rulemaking Comittee) and mysteriously left out of the implementation when the FAA finally stopped stonewalling their Congressional mandate and implemented the law, a full 2 years late. My conspiracy theory is that neither the FAA nor the aircraft manufacturers want the legacy certified market, the only other market that allows us working stiffs to afford this increasingly unattainable hobby, to continue to survive. They want us all grounded and our certified cans in the scrap yard, and the manufacturers probably lobbied like hell to the FAA to ensure we were never allowed to maintain our certified airplanes under de facto experimental rules. This of course, supports E-AB resale market. Experimental owners are not gonna get up in arms about it, considering they're already smug about being able to fly in the IFR system behind an IPAD, but the second a certified can driver is caught doing the same it's certificate action city; both fly over the same people's heads, so spare me.
Garmin found workarounds in order to sell these previously "experimental avionics" to the certified market (G5 is the most popular example these days) via the STC process, without a formal primary non-commercial category. So they got their carve out too. But to someone with a family, that is little solace if I have to leave my loved ones behind in order to afford the damn thing.
So for now I continue to begrudgingly support the certified market. Making memories with my family is more important than gloating about being able to play in the hobby with a legal thumb in the scale. For full disclosure, I too would be doing it if a two-seater fit my mission, lest I be accused of being a hypocrite.

@@GonzoT38 This is not snark. The 360 makes sense if you're short - while he says he's 6' most say 5'10" or less is enough room. And know you need to know you will never take anything bigger than a purse for luggage. My dog would not fit in the luggage compartment, Not sure if this 360 had the AUS tail modification. I also have a similar story as this guy, I too flew freight in the late 90’s out of Dallas in a MU-2 and then in 2000 I flew Regionals but after 9/11 the business was horrible so I bailed out of that and got into what was then a new business of flying UAV’s for the military. Fast forward
I recently bought a Lancair 235 and will be going back to the regional airlines real soon to resume my aviation career.
Like this guy I bought my Lancair for the porpoise of cross country flying primarily solo in an affordable and fast airplane. In the certified world those two words do not go in the same sentence! Only in the Exp world can you get a fast and affordable machine.
I didn’t take his comments as snarky but rather just laughing at the simplicity of the system that has tremendous capabilities!
Being a commercial pilot I personally would never fly my entire family in anything but a commercial aircraft, period! No way would I even consider flying them all together in a piston airplane, forget it! I’ve seen far too many singles crash killing all aboard and it’s a shame because 99% of those accidents could have been prevented!
If I want to make memories with my family and include aviation we will all fly someplace on a commercial carrier and then enjoy each other’s company!
Now having said that, I will take my family flying with me in my Lancair, one at a time if they desire. My wife loves flying with me, so do my kids, we just don’t do it all together, even if I owned a 4 place with a BRS! Sorry not for this guy.
Hey N102M I’ll see you at Mesa if you are still there, I have an interview in January
Everyone fly safe and keep the dirty side down unless you are flying aerobatics...

another great video Bob; you have found gold with your series; very enjoyable; gives you a little insight to the communications between air traffic control and the pilots; I noticed as soon as Curtis went outside the distance? of the flying club/or airstrip the tower was notified? as a pilot you really must know your landing strips as well; I imagine the electronics really take the guess work out of it

Crazy not having shoulder harnesses especially for T/off & landing! They sure are quick but too tight & not robust enough for my liking. Before I bought my RV8 I tried one of these, slippery & sexy looking but didn't like the seating position or the tiny wheels which wouldn't work well on anything other than smooth surfaces. RV, best bang for buck:-)

Thanks for making this video about the Lancair 360. I never knew exactly what was meant by an experimental aircraft. I thought it was like a prototype of an airplane that was being tested before being put into production. Now, I understand the meaning of experimental. I can't believe the speed of the airplane and the fuel burn which really extends the range. The cockpit looks extremely cramped with little room to move around. I would not consider taking it on long distances but Curtis seems to do it quite well! Love your videos because they are different from the standard TH-cam videos. I am definitely a subscriber!

365km/h is pretty decent but big brother Lancair IV-P is another level. 539km/h at 75% power @FL240. It is actually a crime that a plane like that isn't certified and cost optimized. It blows most things away. Beat multimillion turboprops for speed. Match a visionjet. Private jet freedom for a fraction.

Efficient plane as long as the engine is putting out power. How does it glide? yeah. You can have it.

@@DylanClements98 Of course you're right and I'm wrong. The Lancair has a better glide ratio than the Piper Archer with the same engine I believe. My point. I just lied. Something that everyone seems to do today. Like Hunter Biden's lap top. I just want to get in on the fun and fake news. Why can't I? Is it only for democrats.

oooh aaaah speed, your insurance says your a liability and asks why your huge insur.annual payments over what a certified airplane will cost with fixed gear is really worth it. Hell no. The cost savings is none.

X is definitely the way to go. I'm cutting out the middle man and building my own. I've downloaded all of Tesla's notes and plans off of the internet and I already have my Lexus SC-400 converted to all electric, and Flux Capacitor installed. I'm ready for my new Searl Effect Generator install next which gives me the required power along with anti-gravity effect and air propulsion...
I have developed Sea-Keeper like counter-rotating gyroscopic controls for yaw, pitch, and roll. The dual counter-rotating Searl Effect Generator creates inherent stability while generating enough excess electrical energy for my cloaking device and Tesla death ray... it also provides free air conditioning.
After systems testing my first real road trip will be to Woodstock for a few days, and I should be back 5 minutes after I leave... wish me luck - I'm gonna need it. =)
