Thanks for posting this. Nice to see Murray talk so much. He was always such a listener and interested in others. Very modest and a kind soul. You will be missed.

I remember when we were at some divey bar in the City and I told you how I had mad respect for you, because you were a total rock star, but you had no ego about it what-so-ever. I like how you were at all the local SJ parties, bike4beer and sloshball and stuff like that, taking pictures. You're a total badass, Murray. Catch you on the flipside, Bud.

Ahhhh Murray... This isn't the "Story of East Bay Punk" either. This is years after the original Berkeley bands like The Saucers and The Jars and Psychotic Pineapple started the Berkeley Punk scene. Nothing but Hippies before them. Mega Egomaniac Tim Johannon ignored the original bands in favor of creepy groups like "Crime", his favorite O.G. wannabe's. His attitude was "If they're from Berkeley they can't be any good". He redeemed himself with Gilman St. years later, but MRR never really helped the nascent Punk thing in the East Bay. It was a great forum for meth head "writers" to scribble endless BS though. Editor Tim Tonuka was a bird of a different color though. His five page article on "The Saucers" in "Ripper" magazine was a real boost for the band and the Berkeley scene in general. Impresario Dirk Dirksen (The Bill Graham of Punk) & The Saucers hosted a packed July 4th celebration in a downtown Berkeley park with The Jars and some other groups. "Ripper" was there and covered the whole deal and all the bands. Dirk emceed. This is like 1978. Everyone thinks Gilman St. was the genesis of Punk in the East bay. It's a MYTH. The Jars and The Saucers have posted music here on You Tube.
