The worst golf in VW history. Owners of VW group if you are looking this, fire all your young designers, are you insane? WTF with this design!? Is this Dacia golf?????
i can only hope that the golf 9 will look sick. but for now im happy that i ordered the golf 7.5. i saw leaked photos which turns out to be the the exact design of the golf 8 . im liking the back of the car more and more but it was not the same reaction i had when i saw the facelift of the mk7
Hydraulic prop strut and solid door closing sound are the signatures of a Golf. Now only half exists. I like the manual trans shifter and the steering wheel.
Worst golf in VW history. Owners of VW group if you are looking this, fire all your young designers, are you insane? WTF with this design!? Is this Dacia golf?????
Interior quality is disappointing. I can see the door frame from inside, no proper handle on the doors, no lock on the glove box, no proper buttons, fabric central hand rest, no battery cover. Most of the competition seems better.
Yes and the Mk7 had a cover over the beverage holders and much better inside door panels... This new Golf 8 doesn't make me have any desire to buy one..
@@reinulf656 VW is just going to pay journalists to give it a good score or threaten them with banning on testing future VAG cars. I have Golf mk7.5 which too has some cost cutting but not this much and Astra K. Both cars feel more premium inside then this disgrace.
@@Ivzu I also have a 7.5 :) I test drove the Kia Ceed and i30 amongst other cars before choosing the Golf. For the next car I will for sure have a stronger bias to check the competitors in detail. If I were to choose now, I'd focus on trying the XCeed with the strong 1.6 turbo petrol engine and dct.
Usually vw looks better live. For me its a great car it doesn’t look like anytging else on the roads, as new options for sure in this segment its the best by far. For the design i’ll wait to see it live.
A lot of fuss about a missing gas bonnet strut...but this new golf has a standard active info digital dashboard.. Which you normally have to pay extra for..I know which I’d rather have..and would get used more.
DSG has always been shift by wire - the only mechanical connection was for when it went into park...otherwise it was all electronic shift control, has been since mk5. That dsg shifter is horrid! - i like a chunky shifter to rest my hand on and when i flick it into sport i like to quickly whack it with my hand......not pinch a little nib between my fingers and thumbs like i'm operating a shifter thats broken off!
The worst golf in VW history. Owners of VW group if you are looking this, fire all your young designers, are you insane? WTF with this design!? Is this Dacia golf?????
Not a fan of the exterior at all. Overbite front is not flattering. Way too busy. Interior is fantastic. Cost cutting everywhere else like hood prop just tells you this has alot of cost cutting on it.
At the front it looks like Hyundai i30 first generation and Honda Civic 8th generation (Asia Pacific) with some led's thrown at it. Profile looks like Polo rather than Golf. That's bad. Pretty bad. Tech is good though. Overall does not raises the bar as it is expected. Now Golf is just another car in the segment, nothing more, nothing less. This is your best video by far. You are stepping into pro territory with this review. Well done. You have always been outstanding nonetheless.
Disappointed... The biggest Golfs PRO for me was the interior quality. Compared to the MK7 this looks a lot less elaborated. The door panel looks really cheap (black plastic, no pull handles, no chrome accents...) the same with the console between the seats (cheap plastic, without chrome, cup holders without covers) and the engine hood without the hydraulic lift supports is a complete fail for a Golf. So far this looks very Asian to me...
How much does soft touch cost Thomas? you would think a small amount on the rear doors and a better bonet strut wouldn't make much difference when the car is already over 20k
I'm very curious about the gti and R versions. Hopefully we get some of the missing features back and then some. Deffinately needs more power to compete.
Interior with the DSG looks really futuristic. What a nice design, although I agree the touch interface is a bit old fashioned. Still, it's just a golf that looks like a golf and that's not for me, that's for my dad.
I'm not sure about the interior, it doesn't look as sporty as my 7.5 gti. I'm also a bit disappointed about the missing gas strut for the bonnet, a stand out feature in the golfs in my opinion. I understand that things have to change though I just prefer mine more!
I know it’s Golf, but come on VW, it’s time to get a little bit adventurous with the styling without destroying the basic concept. I think I’ll wait for the ID.3 to be released here in Australia.
General dilemmas of VW are shown clearly in this new generation Golf too. A little bit of this, a little bit of that without clear idea where to go. First impression is that they could easily skip this generation and only upgrade previous. Luckily for them some other competitors are in similar situation too. But not all.
Interior looks like a BMW interior from the dashboard (infotainment design) , steering wheel, etc. Outside headlights from the old 5 series and the antenna.
Cost savings - 1) no real buttons for radio or A/C, only cheap chinese tablet - DANGEROUS, 2) no real gauges, just cheap "cool" digital cockpit 3) no real gear stick, cheap electronic - DANGEROUS, other brand car killed own drivers becasue car started mooved when he was opening garragre etc. New Golf, for me Golf owner - BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!
Well R line would probably look far better . No more 1.6 TDI, interesting, nobody is using 'downsizing' word anymore !!! I actualy like engine options, 1.0 TSI 3 cylinder 90 or 110 ps, 1.5 TSI 4 cylinder 130 or 150 ps, 2.0 TDI 115 or 150 ps, nice engine options for start.
Love it but I wont have it. Just because I live in a poor country where people doesn't appreciate real cars. Back here Corolla rules and is considered a fancy car. It's just sad. I'm from Brazil, a country forgoten and disrespected by car industry. A country with no Golf MK8 available.
I love the sharpened-up styling inside and out. I would really like to see the Sportwagen version in the US. It's the only Golf I would buy, unfortunately.
I'd say mk3 to mk4 was the biggest revolution. The c pillar/tail light combo as we know it came from the mk4. Without it, who knows what the golf would look like today... The mk5 was just a more bubbly version of the mk4, with a line running along the side of the car.
The problem with the golf is that reach the top early with the 5th generation and now it's just a lift for it...i don't like this new design on board like Samsung tablets it's not attractive at all 😈😈😈
I suspect they need to find a balance in the design where it's not too nice so that people will consider the ID3, but at the same time not too ugly that nobody buys the golf. And this is what you get.
im glad the e golf is gone with the last golf they used the e golf as a trim level rather than a seperate vehicle so it included features only it and the golf r had
Dont. I have the latest Leon and according to some photos, the next Leon will look like the current Hyundai i30 in the front and the sportage at the rear (with an LED strip across the boot). Less fighter jet than the one currently sold.
It's miles away from a real golf, it's got the front end of a passat, the rear end of a t-roc and the shape of an a3. It just doesn't feel like a golf.
Each new model takes time to get used to it, and the previous one is called better. But this time is really better than the previous model. So golf 7.5. The new make-up golf 7 is much better quality and sporty. Golf 8 really sucks.
Glossy key? Is this the thing you wear in your pocket with other keys probably or tend to throw on the table when fucking tired? Ah and you also touch it a lot, so great deal, make an oversized glossy key Volkswagen.
there is absolutely no reason for the shifter and electric handbrake and so on to take place in the center and be prone to getting dirty.....all companies should stop putting those there
Two trends in interior design that should be killed stone dead by consumers. First is any design without dedicated HVAC control. And these digital sliders are particularly hateful. Second is front seats with integrated head rests like 1970s Porsches. These are never optimal and block forward vision for those in the rear.
Better software, worse hardware... I expected more from the car itself, they need to make it bigger and better,as this will be the Golf for the next 7-8 years :/ I will not be buying one

I'm not sure about this new design language with VW. It feels a bit mushy, and plasticky. The 7.5 looked better Imo, especially the GTI TCR
I can imagine all the golfs communicating to each other like "Hey baby, wanna lick the carbon off the back of my valves?"
Can your hand fit through the inside door handle or is there a bottom to the handle that gathers dirt
The hood and headlights look odd. Led lights is future, but its not changeble , must buy entire headlight.
