    Im a traveling tennis teaching pro. I can no longer charge on a per-hour basis! People's enthusiasm wanes after only a few lessons. If you charge one lesson at a time, every single week your lessons compete with one of twenty other things they could possibly do with their time. Retaining customer is a nightmare. You need a way to ensure only committed clients who respect you take lessons, rather than low quality discount customers who just twist you arm! If you're building a brand and a reputation for the long-term, you must deal only with quality clients who are willing to do what it takes to get better and make you look good. NEVER negotiate price or allow people to take advantage of you. BE willing to walk away any time. YOU are the trainer, YOU are in charge, and YOU have the power. Use it. Make them prove themselves to you, not the other way around. Great vid and I enjoy your channel.

    Man, I'm infinitely grateful to you for making this so soon! As a newly trained PT this is the sorta clarity and direction I need. It's times like these that I wish I had a mentor in person.
    I just wanted to get your opinion on one thing, though.. I'm considering offering both systems alongside eachother and giving customers the option to choose between blocks or monthly. Making the monthly more lucrative and offering more value whereas blocks will just be a basic service. What do you think?
    This channel has shot up to the top of my list of top PT resources. I feel like you cover a wide range of everyday struggles PTs will almost certainly face. Keep it up man!
    P.s. I appreciate the comment highlight in the vid too haha

      I’m glad you’re finding it all helpful.! Honestly, I would only offer one or other. Having too many options can be confusing and lead to indecision with prospects. I would start with session packages and then maybe switch to weekly/monthly payments later on. You’ll have to feel the situation out for yourself though!

    Great video! If clients are a package system and their sessions are running out. How do you recommend to bring up the renewals that their sessions are running out? I find it difficult to know how to address this and not come off “pushy” thanks!

    • @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
      @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question! Generally when they’re about 3-5 sessions away from the end of their package, we say something along the lines of: “just wanted to let you know that you have X sessions left in your [original] package. What were you thinking going forward?” Sometimes we’ll also throw in something like, “you’re doing really well” or “would you like to just continue as you are?” etc. Make it non-confrontational, just essential information that they need to renew.

    Wondering how you handle 3/6/12 monthly paying clients who have to cancel sessions. Let’s say someone signed up for 6 months of 2x/wk training. They get sick for a day and gives me 24hr+ notice. Would you recommend shifting their package to finish ½ a week later? Is that a nightmare to track in the backend software (like MBO)?

    • @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
      @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depending on your contract, if they give ample notice, I would just shift their package to end later. If they paid in advance, then they they paid for the session so it shouldn’t be taken unless they cancel the day of, etc (again, depending on your contract/policies).
      I’m not entirely sure about Mind Body but we use Vagaro and it’s actually fairly easy to go in and play with dates.

    You can eliminate the 4.33 weeks/month problem switching from 3/6/12 months packages to 12/24/48 weeks packages.
    Add a little note (~3/~6/~12 months) to make it more understandable at first glance for the client.

    • @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
      @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s true that would make it a bit less confusing! The only reason why I didn’t do it that way many studios use monthly payments so the way I did it you can still do monthly payments or weekly payments. I like your option too though!

    I would just allow the client to build their package...and provide the bundled options that are complete and include nutritional advice and styling (fashion) and Blue Apron services. For personal training I would go by the half hour or hour, that's a basic rule. In fact, I wouldn't even charge extra for the personal training. What I would do is create a plan called Trainer, so the client starts with the trainer and the trainee gets instructions and their workout for the day. The trainer can supervise as needed. Everyone should be able to follow their own training scheadule on their app or printed on paper. Same happens with therapy. Next, the second plan would be the Trainer Assist Plan, this however too works on a monthly fee and through subscription, say $100 per month: same concept the client enters and prints out their workout for the day, the trainer then meets with them to get started and reports every 15 minutes or as needed, the client uses their app to buzz and call for the trainer (as needed). The full trainer monthly subscription is a (insurance) plan where they can come in and work out daily but the trainer sessions are limited, see above, and they are assisted for 3 full hours weekly...every 15 minutes or when they buzz to call the trainer. It's very important to have a trainer at all times at the desk and 1 or 2 on the floor. Then there's the Rehab Trainer plan, paid for by insurance and the client may come in 3 to 5 times per week to work out and they have personal assistants every 15 minutes or the full hour. The Physique Plan is then for fulltime personal assitance for the hour, a different plan. I think it's important to have names for each plan folks can remember. The Fulltime Trainer Plan for the disciplined. The Trainer Plan. The Macros Trainer plan a beginning workout plan with full assistance etc... You want all equipment to be machines as much as possible. The Partner Plan, this is not a trainer necessarily, they are there to spot 25$ for the hour..something like that.

    Would it be a good idea to advertise that potential clients (prospects as you say lol) must give at least 48 hours notice before canceling their sessions? Is it professional to advertise a potential late fee for no shows or same day cancelations as well?

    • @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation

      You could have a 48 hour cancellation policy. It’s not that uncommon tbh. Mine is 24hrs and it’s typically fine.
      There are probably professional ways to handle a cancellation list. I think as long as you keep everything confidential and professional it would be a good idea to have one.

    hey, what's a good starting price if you just got your NASM certified trainer certificate two days ago? As I only have years of experience in working out, I don't have much experience training besides my younger brother who was more so for gaining mass than losing weight. Wondering a good 30 min and 60 min price per session. anytime charges $45/30mins near me, esporta $55 per 30 mins and I'm going to be more flexible and be able to meet with them anywhere even at their homes. have a lot of equipment but the local gym I'll likely meet with them a lot at has all the basics.

    • @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
      @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say since you lack experience you might want to go slightly cheaper than your competition and raise your prices slowly over time.
      Maybe go $40-45 for 30 and just slightly less than the comp. for 60 mins as well. Obviously a lot of other factors come into play here too.

    How do you handle a group of 3 friends coming together and each one cancels multiple times throughout their package commitment. Do you give them makeup dates or what? Does this present a logistical challenge?

    • @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
      @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We do what’s called a “roaming group” option for all groups. If a group of 2 or 3 has a person that cancels, the other person/people can come in for a one-off session that isn’t part of their package. For groups of 2 where 1 is out, this is our lowest 1:1 rate. For groups of 3 where 1 is missing, this is the 2:1 rate. These sessions are not included in their original package of sessions and are in addition to their package. You can charge what you want for these- a flat fee/a surcharge/etc but we’ve found that not counting them as part of the package is the way to go as then no one is confused as to how many sessions they do or don’t have left.

    My home town which is fairly small, there are loads of "trainers" with no real certs or experience other than taking steroids and selling Herbalife, have flooded the market and have undercut everyone else that try to make an honest living. I have built a metal building with the intent to have a studio but I really do not think that people will want to pay anywhere close to what I have in mind (Cheaper than the video).

    • @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation

      I hear what you’re saying. There’s lots of people out there posing as trainers and doing shady things. If you’re in an area of average to above average income there should still be a good number of people looking for a higher level of personal training. That would still give you an opportunity.
      If you’re in a lower income area, you may be better off not focusing on one-on-one and putting more effort into small group training.

    Hey Jeff,
    I'm based in the uk and in my area the price of a personal training session as £20 per session there is nothing above or below that price and facility hire is aproximitly £5 to £10 per client depending on the gym and thats not includeing fuel costs that i have to take into consideration.
    The all but a few of PTs in my area have a second job to supplement there income and the ones that don't have a second job own the gyms.
    I'm not looking to get a second job as I love working with the clients that I have, although have tried in that past to work both without much success
    I'm looking to start offering packages to my clients but i'm unsure how to structure this as i notice that your sessions are $50 and up for a single session and a £20 starting cost dosent leave me with much after I've included expenses
    Any help would be much appreciated.

      @karl Nelson Hey Karl, if my calculations are correct that would mean that your sessions cost about $27USD an hour for one-on-one training. That really isn't something that I would think that you could live off of, which you kind of confirmed before. Most likely, those prices are way to low.

    • @56chimchar
      @56chimchar 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation I would say that there is a moderate amount of disposable income in my area.
      Personally I feel comfortable raising the price of my sessions my only concern is that with Clients as you have said the will often go based on cost.

    • @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
      @SortaHealthyTrainerEducation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cost is always a top factor when it comes to personal training sales. Have you considered lowering the amount of time that your sessions are? I do 45 minute sessions in my studio and think that it works very well. You might want to consider lowering the amount of time working with your clients before increasing prices.
      I recommend that anyone in a moderately affluent area in the US tries to get to at least a dollar a minute for their sessions and I think you may want to aim for something similar. This would need to be a very gradual changing of your pricing though.
