    Iron Mountain Road is my favorite ride in the Black Hills! I do it just like you did…over and over😁

    Love the sound of an FJR. Great video! I like that you are not so serious or bent on getting somewhere that you don't have time to making U-turns and re-running those one lanes!

      Glad you enjoyed it! I ran the one lanes early in the morning so I didn't feel too pressed for time yet :)

    Great ride brother. Tell me about your sound system. Your speaking is very clear.

    • @Tiger993

      Thanks! A big part of the audio is the large windshield on that bike. I usually have it raised fully when I'm recording and it cuts out a lot of wind noise. I use a Sony FDR-X3000 camera, with a small microphone inside the helmet and plugged into the camera. It could be a little better but it does work fairly well.

    Tiger, I crossed South Dakota on my 2013 Yamaha FJR1300a, about 2 months before you, and same year. Accept mostly via I-90 through South Dakota.
    My trip was from Atlanta, Georgia, stopping in Peoria, Il., then on to Rapid City, Bozeman, Kalispell, Seatlle for a few days, then down the coast to L.A., and hopscotch through the southwest back to Atlanta. 7835 miles, and 20 days, all together.
    Question brother; Did you have any electrically heated clothing ? Riding for an extended time in 40's plus degree weather, sounds chilly.

    • @Tiger993
      @Tiger993  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that's a monster route you took but I'm sure it was worth it. I've got a number of as yet unridden routes mocked up to carry me out west some day when time and life allows. What part of Atlanta are you in? I was born and raised there.
      To answer your question, yes, I have two pieces of heated gear: a Warm & Safe heated jacket liner and a pair of Gerbing heated gloves. I've never had much of a problem with my feet and legs being cold but my torso and hands would get cold pretty quickly at 40F. I also have Outlast liners in my jacket and pants and they do a fair bit of insulating as well.

    I like riding early on a Sunday morning out there. There's no other vehicles on the road and you have it all to yourself. The wife thinks I'm nuts sometimes when we get out early and ride a couple hours before stopping for breakfast. I carry a thermos off coffee with so we can stop and warm up and maybe watch some wildlife along the way! FYI - you don't want to beep your horn or rev your engine around those buffalo. They will charge without a hint at any time. Some people on their honeymoon got their car totalled, and the wife got killed because they just beeped their horn at them crossing the road.

    • @Tiger993
      @Tiger993  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You said it - the early riding was amazing even though I got pretty skittish due to the volume of deer out. I'm embarrassed to say the horn beep was actually an unintended slip of the finger - horn is directly below windshield button. I felt like an idiot when it happened and remember being glad none of them bolted or glared at me.

      My friend rides an FJR and loves it. I've rode his and it is a great bike, no doubt, but I found I cannot sit in that position for very long, so I ride a 1300 VTX instead. I like the laid back seating position much better (I'm 64 - no spring chicken anymore!) I'm heading out that way sometime this summer again. I can't get enough of it. We're from St. Cloud so it's a long days ride just to get out there.

    @24:20 - "… and I'm not a peg-scraper {unlike my progenitor, it goes without saying}"
    @25:50 - "You know, it would _stink_ to get behind somebody slow on this road… " and have to look at all these hills and rocks and _trees_ man, am I lucky I can whip through here!
    @27:05 - "Cathedral Spire… " Wouldn't your boys have a wonderful time there! Maybe find some rock fragments to remind them of the adventure.

      berniebober123 that’s the Givi XS308. I’ve really enjoyed it and the quick release tank lock makes fuel stops a breeze.

    Johnny come lately here! When you crossed the Buffalo herd, did you have to stop or was it just to look at them beasts?

    • @Tiger993
      @Tiger993  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They were blocking the road so I had to stop, along with a couple other vehicles who were passing through. We were there less than 10 minutes before the road cleared.

    What year is your FJR. What touring mods

    • @Tiger993
      @Tiger993  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      2006 model. For touring I added a Vstream windshield, Seth Laam custom seat, 16oz bar end weights, and grip puppies on both handlebar grips, controllers for heated jacket and gloves. I also wired up USB power to the handlebar area, plus power for a V1 and GPS.
