I'm Japanese. I wonder how he found the albam! I'm glad her music being entertained other countries! And I wonder how this music such as Japanese poetry rap is accepted in other contries. her way of singing and her lyrics is very thoughtful. so I am attracted it. I expect her action from now on
Spotify recommended "underground" for me so I checked the rest of the album out and instantly fell in love with it. I feel like it may have been a similar situation for him.
@@Amins88 I discovered Haru Nemuri through random TH-cam recommendations (I guess I was watching some Otoboke Beaver). It was her music video for Trust Nothing But Love (Track #2 from her EP Lovetheism). I fell in love with the minimalist video and so the beginning of my dive into her music.
I'm from the U.S., and even though I'm too dumb to understand the content of her lyrics, it's her daring production & the musicality of her rapping/singing that is so riveting for me. I looked up that she has badass politics that she puts into her music, so that's super cool.
Anthony, you can like J-Pop more than K-Pop, but your 8-minute tirade on why the Imperial Japanese occupation of Korea, comfort women, and Unit 731 were the best things to happen to Koreans was incredibly uncalled for.
I felt lazy to listen to the album before watching this review, it felt like melon was selling the album and did it pretty well, specially when he tried to sing like a japanese girl. Thanks melon, I'm feelin' pumped to check it out.
i'm so glad you mentioned sekaiwotorikaeshiteokure (track 7) because i love that song. everytime i listen to it, it just gets better and better. good review melon
I really appreciate that you have started reviewing Japanese artists lately (KPP, Haru Nemuri) I would really dig it (though you probably won't and I understand why,) if you would do a retroactive review on Halcali's debut album, or maybe Midori's Midori Desu.
thank u for reviewing more "international" music, Anthony. Ever since u did those reviews of MBTDF and Scorpion i’ve been looking forward to more reviews on music that doesn’t feature english lyrics and/or has non-western influences, so i’m glad ur delving into these territories again.
this might be the best album that came out this year for me, thank you for this review so much mr. melon, I wouldn't know about this if it weren't for you
I saw Haru Nemuri perform the other night at a local punk venue the other night because of this review. It was a good show. Thanks Tanthony Gymlaundry.
This is exactly why I'm so grateful for Anthony. I've just listened to this thanks to the review and it's really good. I wouldn't have discovered it otherwise. Thanks ma melon
Hey thanks for reviewing music outside your language. I know that can be hard but I personally appreciate you trying to open up the options to almost anything
Wow, thanks for reviewing this! I checked out the track you linked in the description, and I was really intrigued. Gonna listen to this album, sounds cool so far.
I love how music is so universal. I heard their two most recent songs/music videos and even though I had no idea what the hell she was saying, I felt emotion as if understanding the lyrics had little meaning because I was still enjoying it so much. Thanks for exposing me to this band/artist!! I would not have known if I hadn't seen your review!!!
*vibrates angrily that there is no Spotify album stream* EDIT: actually she’s there, I just followed an artist named “harunemuri” that just has her singles and compilation music uploaded. Keep asking questions
Fuck yes, been waiting for this and I'm really happy my recommendation got through to you! Definitely worth checking out more stuff from this scene though because there's so much incredible music coming out of Japan right now.
Wow, I've been listening to this album for about a week! I love the energy of how most of the album is, though I'm not much of a fan of a few of the remixes. My favorite tracks being the one which she ends ups yelling "DISTORTION!!" and ROCK 'N' ROLL WA SHINANAI WITH TOTSUZENSHOUNEN. Not really into the J-Pop sound of most other bands but I found this one really enjoyable and good to put on while working out.
Mr. Fantano, I appreciate you delving into music in other languages. About a year ago, I asked to review Natalia Lafourcade and you came through. Looking forward to your future reviews. Thanks for all your hard work and recommendations. Keep it up!
I'm very sure Haru will be incredibly grateful to see this. Thank you so much for reviewing this and keeping a spotlight on the Japanese underground artists from tricot to Zombie Chang. You the melon, Fantano.
Japan did colonize Korea from 1910 - 1945 sorta the thing that you know led to that one war the US fought in. man i thought i could trust you Alex you were my trusted news source for everything i guess ill have to go back to fox.
Zombie-Chang is a Japanese electro-pop musician with some pretty catchy and kinda psychedelic and sometimes really weird songs that y'all should check out. Especially you Melon. Just play Lemonade. that shit is bopppingggg.
I found out about her by chance, watching someone's insta story of a live performance of a song off this album and I immediately loved it, both live and studio versions of her music are amazing
HELL YEAH, i really adore this experimental album so much, its so different from the JPop genre! can't wait to hear more experimental Jpop on this channel!
Connor Mcclennen IKR, the opening song os possibly the greatest Hip-Hop song ever made. So I wasn't surprised when Melon gave it an 11/10 and said that TPAB sucked compared to it.
Damn, I guess I'm a bit late to this review but man I really dig this album! I knew that Japan's music didn't only consisted of J-pop boybands but never got the input to dig deeper into it's music. I love this album! Thank you Melonty Godthano!
I see a lot of people joking that if the album is "experimental" then it gets a positive review. While I do genuinely love these comments and find them pretty funny, it makes sense. In a time of music today, especially with what's popular, artists/bands/brands tend to fall in a bit of a trend and struggle to escape, so when something new emerges and catches wind, it's exciting.
I have a feeling Anthony would give a lot of positive reviews to Japanese music if he listened to more Japanese artists in general. There is, and has been so much artistic innovation and perfection there. In turn, he might become tougher on western music though lol.
i wish u can take a listen to japanese classic albums such as "shouso strip" and "Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana" by sheena ringo... they are both on spotify...
Kinda reminiscent of Gesu no Kiwami Otome Glad Fantano is reviewing foreign music. Was going to send an email asking about that. Looking forward to seeing more music in different languages in the future, big melon!
She made a Riot Grrrl/Hardcore album this year called "Insaint". You should check it out. It is cathartic, raw and oddly beautiful in that very 春ねむり type way. Some moments sound like a band like ENVY, where it is just ambient guitars, poetry esque hushed vocals, and then there is just a wall of distorted post rock/metal guitars and she is screaming her head off.
Since youre doing jpop now, you need to look into the whole discography of Shiina Ringo including Tokyo Jihen(aka Tokyo Incidents her band). Youll be amazed. Some of the best music ever made in the last 20 years on planet earth. The albums "Discovery" by Tokyo Jihen and "Karuki Zamen Kuri No Hana" by her are 2 of her best albums ever(the latter being the best jpop album ever made).
dude i got a chance to see her at a rock fest in jp last year and her screams are even deeper on stage. crazy!
I live across the street from her and say hi everyday. Anthoan like me pls.

@@cheskaarana6097 TH-cam surprisingly has it down with music recommendations, too I've noticed. People's musical tastes must be pretty predictable.
I found this album (and, by extension, this review) by looking up a game that Studio Pixel worked on lol; they share the same name
