  • Learn how the fascinating turning machines called Kaleidocycles are made out of glass beads and thread.
They start with 24 triangles, and are sewn together first into a net, or into individual tetrahedra, and then assembled into a marvel of engineering and design.
Kate McKinnon shows several of the techniques that the Contemporary Geometric Beadwork team has devised to include hinges and ideas about morphing surfaces into these pieces.

Great video. I can actually mostly understand how it works now. It's saved so I can eventually actually understand it. ;) Thanks!

You work is breathtakingly gorgeous! I'm a newbie at beading although I've collected beads for a long time. Would you please direct me to a link which will teach me how to start by making the basic triangle? Thanks so much and I'm happy I've found you.

How do you design a triangle ? Do I use graph paper?

These are incredible. Can you point me to the most basic video on how to construct a unit? I can't figure out how to make a hinge. It feels like many of the common terms (hinge, hot corner, cycle) have already been illustrated somewhere. Thanks!

A hinge is just one extra row of beads between connecting beads.
The very best place to find information (including a free pattern for a Cycle from start to finish) is on our web site:

Why don’t you show the one kind of join that’s in your tutorial (strips)? You show every other kind of join but that. I’m sitting here trying to follow your tutorial, but I can’t work out the wording. A simple video showing what you mean would be so helpful.
It also seems that others tried to post videos on it, but they were removed from TH-cam. This is extremely frustrating!
