- The Winged Eagle Belt design for the WWF Championship is one of the most praised and iconic designs in the history of wrestling. The very design came into existence in 1988 and was retired for good once 1998 came around. So for today's episode, it's time to look back at the history of the belt itself during that 10 year period.

Fun fact: The very first time a white-strapped winged eagle belt appeared on camera was in the movie "No Holds Barred" starring Hulk Hogan. Hogan's character, Rip Thomas, defended the belt against Demolition Ax's character, Jake Bullet, in the opening scene of the movie.
This video made me go to the WWE shop and buy the new dual plated WWE Winged Eagle belt. It's soooo gorgeous!!

To me that's always been Bret's belt. He held it more and longer than everyone else so I cant see it without thinking of him.

Hogan held the winged eagle belt 684 days, Bret held it for 654 days. (from Wikipedia List of WWE Champions).

Ultimate Warrior!!! Even though he only held it once, he was the first person to beat Hogan clean for it, he gave the belt life by changing the color of the strap multiple times and his promos with the title was unforgettable 💪🏾

Such an iconic belt. I *had* to get the whole $450 2021 WWE Shop dual plated replica recently. The belt on it isn't even real leather, but it's worth it to me.
I mean, it's gonna be for Halloween, but it was always on my list of things to get for about two decades.
Next up, the Rated R Superstar title and the AEW one in no specific order.

I say The Hitman. He was my favourite already, and 5 title reigns, so that’s who I picture.
Even though he only held it twice. Its Macho Mans belt to me he's always been my favorite.

When I think of this belt, I think of Hogan, Brett Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin. They were the major players, to me, that held this belt up high. I just ordered a replica belt for my man cave. 😂
I started watching wrestling in 1990 so I grew up with this belt. Hogan had it at that time but to me, it'll always be synonymous with Bret Hart. My Wife recently got me this belt for Xmas
I mostly think of Bert Hart with the winged eagle belt.
Hogan actually had the Winged Eagle belt for 2 years before it would even be used.
Bret Hart to me will always be that wrestler to have held and be one with the Winged Eagle belt because of the prestige and respect for the world championship title he had with as the reigning longest champion at the time.
Second after Bret Hart, will be Ultimate Warrior to have held both Winged Eagle belt and the Intercontinental championship after beating Hogan for the Winged Eagle belt championship.
And third comes Shawn Michaels who to me will always be that Intercontinental champion title holder and not the Winged Eagle champion because Bret Hart held that title longer and suited him well because he looked the part of a real champion he once was and still is.
Fourth and lastly, the Undertaker as the Winged Eagle champion title holder.

I think because he changed the strap color so much I always think of Warrior with that belt, then macho, followed by bret hart.

This is a history of the title. There is a difference.
No other belt was worn by both the top legends of the 80's and the top guys of the 90's. Hogan, Andre, Savage, Warrior, Flair, Undertaker, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold. Plus its the belt from the legendary Montreal's skrewjob. No other belt is more iconic. The NWA "10 pounds of gold" is a close 2nd.

The destroyed championship isn’t the Hardcore Championship that was created in 1998, that’s been a myth for a long time. And drop the title means losing the title to someone.

Dibiase acutally wore the belt in match before the tournament at wrestlemania iv in a tag team match. DiBiase and Andre versed Hogan and i think it was Bam Bam Bigelow at a house show i don't know if Dibiase was announced as champion.
He was briefly named as WWF Champion during those house show appearances, but he's not recognized in the record books as champion and Jack Tunney declared the title exchange from Andre to DiBiase to be illegal.
and fake diesel was one of the final three in the 97 royal rumble. it was between the four guys at iyh final four that austin illegally eliminated in the final moments of the rumble due to austin being eliminated but the refs didnt see it. so fake diesel wasnt in the match as he was legally eliminated by bret at the rumble
You know, it's pretty pathetic. Undertaker didn't win the title multiple times, he Is one of the top 5 wrestlers ever, and yet someone like Randy Orton has won it multiple times. It's really pathetic vince didn't put the belt on his villains more than he did. Could you imagine a year of darkness with taker dominating the title scene, we didn't get that because Vince had other plans.
