This is a very strong debut, imo. Not as striking as (G)I-DLE, or Everglow, or Itzy who have very much carved out their own niche, but I absolutely agree that the execution was amazing and the girls were very confident and polished out of the gate.

The song and music video gives me 2015/2016 girl group kpop (Sonamoo and Dia specifically) and I LOVE it! It feels so refreshing nowadays to have such an upbeat and fun song! and the video is so colorful and pretty, I love how neon/bright the pinks and blues are!!! I wasn't a kpop fan when these kind of songs and videos were more popular so I'm happy I'm able to experience it now with LIGHTSUM
I agree that the girls are so polished and well trained. All of them are good at dancing, even if they aren't in the center, each of their facial expressions are still on point. And I also agree, idol identity is the main problem with Cube. Their idols have to get experience for years before they find their identity with the exception of GIDLE.

I think these girls are just so young that they're going to grow into the group. From the previews/intros etc they are all so shy and inexperienced, and I think jumping to a concept would stunt their growth.
for me, Lightsum - Vanilla is like Weeekly - Tag Me where the song is an overall cute concept but the dance break and rap part make the song a more high-teen vibe
i totally agree with you pd: as of right now, i have no idea what exactly lightsum will bring to the next gen. with groups like itzy, everglow, stayc and lightsum's seniors gidle all in the game, they'll need to establish themselves early on if they want to succeed. however! there are some true powerhouses in this group, such as juhyeon (the little girl from the unit) and chowon (produce48 rumor stage rapper), and other members seem just as talented. so let's hope cube has a plan and picks some interesting and high-quality songs for these talented girls!
I'm unsure if you've seen any Pink Fantasy before, but you should really check out their Alice in Darkland dance intro and their new song Poison... you may really enjoy it
Oh and the one "city" dancing set with the pink and yellow buildings kind of reminds me of Sonamoo's "I Like U Too Much" (one of my fav kpop songs btw)

I'm happy with the way Lightsum seems to be going! I'm getting a little tired of the same girl crush songs left, right and centre. I think it's something that really feels like a cute concept, which is something I really missed, hence why I love this song SO much!
To some who only watched or listened to the song, you might not like it because some parts sound generic but if you watched their choreography or live performances while listening to the song, I think you will learn to enjoy Vanilla and get addicted to it. Unlike what you think of the song, their choreography is very hard & fast-paced. I think the main point of LIGHTSUM's debut is to show how each one of them are great performers as they can sing live & stable and has great facial expressions & stage presences while dancing very fast.
I agree, for a debut it is a catchy fun song and they did a great job portraying it, I think that they have such a great energy that they can catch your attention even with a "generic" song. Definitely looking forward to their comeback. I really hope they do well, Chowon deserves it (she was in produce 48 and should have been in izone's debut lineup). The mv is cute but I feel the sets are nothing new, we have seen these type of sets for Lovelyz, Rocket Punch, CLC, and a lot of other groups, also the part with the trees reminds me so much of WJSN as you wish MV (also the circle where a member is sitting).

Speaking of identity, SNSD to my opinion didn't have a fixed one. Throughout their career, they tried various contrasting concepts. More cute and fresh early in their career until they transition to dark, mature and cool concepts in the later years. Most groups in 2nd gen didn't have a fixed concept, constantly changing in every comeback. I think isthis why I like Lightsum. I feel that they will get to try different stuff. Most groups nowadays have fixed identity so Lightsum may be trying to be different. It worked so well for SNSD so maybe I hope it works for this group too. Ps. Thank you for enlightening me i did like the song but there was something about them that did not really make me full stan them but i do love the produce 48 members of this group. yes its their statement as a debut who and what they are gonna be moving forward the debut doesnt have to be a masterpiece just as long as they can show their color as a group but opposite can happen you love the MV and statement of the debut but you didnt like the song that much and will wait for a comeback. its true im not quite sure what the group is like or do they maintain this sound all through out like clc had to change up sound signature for most of their comebacks. but with most of us we may like them over time or like them instantly no problem in that but we also do regret not stanning right away. also yes sounds very 2nd gen which we love and miss and like that 2nd gen sound.
My very biased opinion: I have no doubts about their competence and potential--Juhyeon, in particular, since I saw her do an absolutely badass choreo to TroyBoi's "Do You". I've been psyched about her potential, ever since Rain said 'There's finally someone who might be able to surpass Boa". But... I almost never watch or listen to girl groups, and that is because I've never been interested in nor satisfied with the conventionally feminine, er, *everything* that girls in this industry are restricted to. (The sole exceptions being: Amber Liu's entire existence, f(x)'s 'Red Light', Weki Meki's 'Cool', and WJSN the Black's "Easy"...you see the trend.) In short: I feel their potential will be wasted. I had especially wanted to see Juhyeon rocking boy-group-style 'cool', more 'unisex' choreography the way she did on The Unit, but that went down the drain when I saw 'Vanilla'.

didn't like it at first but i love it so much now. the vanilla and omg part keeps replaying in my head lol but i agree with people here saying its not an outstanding debut but the group is really promising. can't wait for their future comebacks. and also i'm just so glad chowon finally debuted! girl's chance to debut really got robbed by msnake
Not having a clear identity seemed to be CUBE’s sickness really.. not for all group though.. I can only say for BTOB, CLC, PENTAGON, and now LIGHTSUM.. took several comebacks for the older group to finally show their color.. thankfully for G-idle they showed their consistent color from the start. I can see potential in Lightsum.. just like every group in CUBE they will impressed the general public eventually.

I assumed they hated it and decided not to react. Their earlier reaction to ptg was quite negative until they came back with Dr. Bebe and daisy like songs. Now ptg are doing more fun songs again so no reaction

Thank you for enlightening me i did like the song but there was something about them that did not really make me full stan them but i do love the produce 48 members of this group. yes its their statement as a debut who and what they are gonna be moving forward the debut doesnt have to be a masterpiece just as long as they can show their color as a group but opposite can happen you love the MV and statement of the debut but you didnt like the song that much and will wait for a comeback. its true im not quite sure what the group is like or do they maintain this sound all through out like clc had to change up sound signature for most of their comebacks. but with most of us we may like them over time or like them instantly no problem in that but we also do regret not stanning right away. also yes sounds very 2nd gen which we love and miss and like that 2nd gen sound.
To be honest, Lightsum actually reminds me of Twice.
My very biased opinion: I have no doubts about their competence and potential--Juhyeon, in particular, since I saw her do an absolutely badass choreo to TroyBoi's "Do You". I've been psyched about her potential, ever since Rain said 'There's finally someone who might be able to surpass Boa". But... I almost never watch or listen to girl groups, and that is because I've never been interested in nor satisfied with the conventionally feminine, er, *everything* that girls in this industry are restricted to. (The sole exceptions being: Amber Liu's entire existence, f(x)'s 'Red Light', Weki Meki's 'Cool', and WJSN the Black's "Easy"...you see the trend.)
In short: I feel their potential will be wasted. I had especially wanted to see Juhyeon rocking boy-group-style 'cool', more 'unisex' choreography the way she did on The Unit, but that went down the drain when I saw 'Vanilla'.

LIGHTSUM 💙 Seriously its hard to pick a bias. All of them are so pretty and cute. Torn between Hina, Juhyeon, Sangah and Huiyeon 💗💗💗 the recent girl groups debuts are into girl crush so this cute style is a fresh concept nowadays.

Not having a clear identity seemed to be CUBE’s sickness really.. not for all group though.. I can only say for BTOB, CLC, PENTAGON, and now LIGHTSUM.. took several comebacks for the older group to finally show their color.. thankfully for G-idle they showed their consistent color from the start. I can see potential in Lightsum.. just like every group in CUBE they will impressed the general public eventually.
