the song sounds almost like an actual 80s song rather than a retro-inspired modern day pop song, which is really interesting!
Very much so. I think they took heavy inspiration from Ah-ha Take on Me and other new wave 80's synth pop hits. I grew up listening to that (because it was one of my mom's favorite genres) so I instantly loved it.
the growl bass in this song and the synths are the authentic 80's retro sound, if there is a modern sound its the rap part but it still sounds so good
@@breakforthechorus6230 I heard Take on Me as well, which is interesting since most "retro" kpop songs feel less inspired by a specific 80's song and more by 80s music as a whole. The only other "Take on Me"esque song I've heard in kpop is Fiestar and IU's collaboration song "Sea of Moonlight"

WEi's leader, Jang Daehyun, who produced their group title tract 'All Or Nothing' is actually part of the production crew and helped with arrangement for this song as well.
This was my fav comeback of that day tbh. It's the only one where I went, "damn gotta listen to this again" when the song didn't even finish yet on my first listen instead of "ok...bet this will grow on me the more I listen to it...?"

frankly i've never had the experience like one i had when i first listened to this song. when that intro hit i literally paused and searched for a-ha take on me. i mean it's not the same but it took me literally back to literal 80s, crazy stuff! this song put rocket punch right on my map and now lives rent-free on my mind

i agree so much with you, the mv is so pretty and the vocals are so powerful in the chorus. i really hope rocket punch keeps making music showing of their vocals because they have so much potential. sohee looks very different, from having brown short hair during juicy to now having long blonde hair, i kinda thought she was dahyun at first 😅. yunkyoungs hair looks amazing too. i agree with all the things you said.
I recall feeling so attacked when you compared Juicy's vibe to Lazy Town. You weren't wrong 🤣, that set/color scheme had a nick junior look and it is very much a fun song with the most satisfying percussion sounds.
Their glossary of sound effects is so robust+surprising, like that bit of colored noise that appears and intensifies in the prechorus of Ring Ring.
So happy Juicy grew on you and thanks for reviewing Ring Ring FOT!
