There is so much discussion here about the winner. I think if one would be so concerned about the winner, no one would travel to see national finals. It is about the experience.
We should have won in 2023. Period. 😟 Yes, the momentum was there, the whole country was excited like never before, and then what do you know but Swedes come to rob it all away from us... Whatever anyone says about winning people's hearts etc etc, people & ESC "historians" only count actual victories... Even now it pains me every time I see "Eurovision 2024 in Malmö", at the start of every ESC themed video, or anything similar, as that just should not be the case.
Between Käärijä and Moomins, Finland became a must visit for our family, and we went last summer. We all loved it, and the kids want to go back already!

@@Balnazzardi We're from the UK. We had just 6 days, so spent some time in Helsinki, and some around Turku. We were very impressed with public transport and child friendliness. I'm aware how much more there is to see, so hoping to go back again before too long! My 6 year old son still prefers saying Kiitos to Thanks!
Yes, please do come! 😄 Just a pity UMK is held at one of the worst times of year, the coldest & most miserable, but yeah ;) (Ofc all NF's are held about then, but in most other countries it's not as bad at that time of year.)

Yeah it feels like umk got that same kind of hype what we have for ice hockey worldcup. And I could imagine how big the tori juhlat would be after Finland winning eurovision.
I remember catching it in 2014, and the opening bit was making Krista Siegfreids endure terrible conditions while being abandoned upon her return from Malmo, since she didnt win LOL.. It was held in a small, but lively studio
Firstly, glad you enjoyed Finland! I voted for Sara but tbh to me the No Rules number felt the most cohesive (despite having chaotic energy) and the one where artistic vision, camera work and stage presence came together without any struggles. It also made me howl from laughter - the biggest emotional reaction I had that night. I'm not super competetive person so how well it'll do in ESC is something I'm not concerned about, but it is a performance I can fully support.
Watching on tv, unfortunately Sara's emotion and great staging didn't really come through. I bet it was great live in the arena, but through tv, Windows was just on another level imo
That’s so true.. from TV could only notice a lamb circling around her.. most of was obviously missed. Even I didn’t wish her to win (gogo no rules!) I bet that staging, and TV presentation, gave the edge to Win95man to have the televote landslide! Yep, I changed in a fly my vote from Mikale Gabriel to Win95 during this UMK show…
she fell victim to something that has hit many good to great artist - vocals not at peak during critical performance (see Kaarija ESC finals last year). She is still highly loved and respected, and at the end of the day, there's always next year!
I beg to differ - to me ALL the emotions came through, & her staging was marvellous...!! Especially the mist & flaming circle around her. Didn't even notice the lamp until she grabbed it! And everyone I know felt the same. Of course everyone has the right to their opinion, but to state it as a general "fact" that her performance was lacking just isnt true, to so many of us.

It’s so weird watching this. Tampere is my hometown and I’ve been to all the places you visited. So glad you’re enjoying it. Shoutout to Tiima, it’s literally a stone throw away from my parents apartment. They have amazing cocktails and also do whatever kinda drink on the spot based on your preference. The owner/bartender is so knowledgeable and talented.
As a Finn this was such a great video, I really enjoyed your visitor perspective to all of it, especially Helsinki scenes (and having lived in the UK, I can relate to so much here). And really great to get to see UMK behind the scenes, as we only saw it all on TV, obviously :) And oh, the mural of Käärijä in Tikkurila, I really need to go to see that soon! 💚😄 (I know I'm a bit late in commenting but forgot to do so at the time I first watched this, though enjoyed it enormously ;))
As a Finn who think Tampere is the best city in Finland, this was amazing to watch. I so hope we'll get the ESC to Finland one day, because Tampere and YLE would make it an epic experience for everyone. I hadn't chosen a favourite based on the music videos, because I felt all of the songs would appear different when performed live. I ended up voting for Sexmane, because his vocals were amazing, and the message of the song hit me hard. After the live performances, I wasn't surprised (or the least bit disappointed) that Windows95man won. Their live performance was pure joy and absolute perfection. Maybe Sara's staging worked better seen at the Nokia arena, but through a screen, it was lackluster. The song is beautiful, and no doubt, it will become a long term chart success. Based on the studio versions, my favourite was probably Jesse Markin, and I loved Sini Sabotage's music video, but their stagings were a but bland. Had Sini been wearing that blue catsuit, she would have scored higher.
I don't know if you missed it, or if it wasn't mentioned to you, but here's a little fun fact from one of Yle's (older) articles: "Following a tradition from the previous years, the earnings from the voting will be donated to the Nose Day Foundation to be used to help children in developing countries". AKA, all the money the show receives from the voting gets donated to charity EVERY. YEAR. This is something I personally really appreciate. I don't know how other countries use the money they receive, but this is something that makes me really proud and happy as a Finn.
I don't understand why people are so upset that Sara didn't win. While it was my favourite before the live shows, Sara couldn't deliver on stage. Maybe it was her being nervous or something. But I felt like she couldn't hit the notes and it didn't sound good. Windows95man was the only one that excited me and Henri had the best vocals
This 100%. I mean you have this 1 chance to do well on stage and you need to nail that performance and sadly Sara didn't manage to do that. Windows95man definitely went above expectations with their stage show and thats why they rightfully won

Oi oi oi!" 😂 Greetings from Australia by the way 🙂 Also this was my first time watching UMK and I even got up at 5:15am to watch it live before then having to head off to work. I spent the entire day shaking my head in disbelief because 'No Rules!' was my favourite song going in to the competition but was fully expecting Sara and 'Paskana' to win (which I would have been okay with as while I'm quite fussy about ballads I did quite like it). The stage performance from Windows95man and Henri was incredible and I cannot stop watching the live performance video. 🤣 The whole show in general was also amazing and seeing it from the perspective of an audience member in your video made it look even more impressive! 😃Now I know I NEED to go to UMK some time soon. Anyway, thanks for the great video! 😄

Apparently the international juries saw a different version of Windows95Man's live performance (maybe the dress rehearsal?) may explain some of the juries' dislike for the act. Heard all this on the radio on route to work Monday morning so don't quote me on this. Also Sexmane's staging didn't translate well to screen. I didn't even realise it was supposed to be a parachute which again might explain the televote. Loved the video, so excited to see more!
I was watching just reactions, but then You offered a gem in between. Almost fifty minutes and all great content; best what I’ve seen EVER about Finnish song contest UMK and what’s happening around it from ”free media” point of view.. even this was just a short climps of it all! (Yeah, would have watched even two hours full on beans doc!) Only 20-30 Years ago film studios managed to do content like this was.. amazing how things have changed up side down and individuals with phone or/with gopro overlap studios; quality top notch, production speed in hours or max days, economically almost no budget.. Remembering Blair Witch Project how it made head lines.. this production would beaten it at the times! Thank You for doing this! Thank You for genuine reactions.. and thanks to have No Rules! 💥
As a half-finn living in northern Sweden this made me miss Finland sooo much, I've only ever been there during summer because we have winter at home, but now I have to go there for a mini-break. Love the video!

Let's be honest here. Sara's performance just wasn't that great. Staging was quite meh and her vocals were off. When it comes to ballads the vocals absolutely have to be 100% right. That's just how it goes. All the other entries just dropped the ball at some point and windows95man did a superb live performance. I never thought I would be voting them but in the end I did because it was an absolute bonkers moment and I laughed my ass off through the whole thing.
Summer is better. Right now it is less cold, perhaps +1, but it is worse, as we can get rain or sleet, and the walkways and roads become wet and slippery with ice. Summer is incredible, and there are loads of festivals to attend!
I absolutely adore and I'm very fond of Tampere. My dad is from there and we've visited the city multiple times. Exhibitions at Vapriikki have been must seen as well hanging out with my cousins. I don't know what else to say. I am super excited about this years UMK and upcoming Eurovision contest as every year since 2014. I was expecting Sara actually win UMK this year but televotes suprised me out of bush (Literal translation from finnish saying of "puskasta" like coming out of left field or something).
Fun thing to know, didn't know they had something similar to what we have in the Netherlands as well. When it's our final year in secondary school, we get to do go prank and do crazy shit one last time, this is usally on a thirsday too but at the end of the schoolyear right before the exams

Poi, ogni volta che il viso e gli occhi di Angelina erano inquadrati e l'espressione era coinvolgente la ripresa è cambiata è si vedeva tutto il palco. Non conosco le parole tecniche ma ogni volta ho avuto l'impressione che mi sia stata tolta la possibilità di vedere come Angelina si esprime. Con tutti questi tagli ogni 5 secondi ho dovuto cercare Angelina, persa tra i ballerini. Alla fine sono rimasta con l'impressione che non ho potuto "conoscere" la cantante e con frustrazione perche ogni volta che avrei voluto "connettermi" mi è stata presa l'opportunità.
my trip in an out of Helsinki was only by train, in Sept 1988 but I learned one of my favorite FInnish words: Rautatieasema ALso critical phrase: En puuhuu Suomea. 😊 My itinerary: Ferry: Stockholm- Turku (Abo); Train: Turku - Helsinki. 7 days later - Train: Helsinki - Kemi (near border); Bus: Kemi - Haparanda (SWE); Train: Haparanda - Stockholm. I managed to circumscribe the ENTIRE Gulf of Bothnia! (aka Bottenviket/Bottenhavet). How many Americans can make THAT claim?
As a canadian i realized that canada hasdtotally warped my sense of what is a normal temp or what winter clothes most people have. I had several moments where all my brain could think was why arent you wearing boots/why are all these people electing to wear running shoes in winter. Then I remembered that most people don't live in countries where in primary school you were only allowed to have indoor recess when it got below -40 C and otherwise we were told to basically suck it up. Most non-nordic europeans probably don't have the same winter dress options that seem the bare minimum to me.
What a video and happy for you that you had such a great experience! Myself, I was rooting for Sara and Cyan Kicks, and afraid of W95M winning, and then the latter happened... In a way, I am not that surprised in the end, as they had a great performance, and the song is simply fun. However, in my humble opinion, the best performance was probably by Sexmane - so surprised by how few points he got, and the same goes for Sini Sabotage, although there the performance didn't get to the highs of the video. Cyan Kicks had, imo, one of the worst performances unfortunately - why did they choose to be so static? Personally, I believe that Sara Siipola's fall is mostly based on how her performance was shown on television - there simply was something wrong about it. Well, she can still comfort herself with having the most popular song of all the contributions to the final (at least according to Spotify Finland's top 50).
First of all great video, I really enjoyed it. Still upset over the results Sara Siipola definitely would have brought a top 5 for Finland. If only the system would have been 50/50.
Windows95man is thinking again if he has the energy to withstand all the stress of Eurovision. It is clear Windows95man could do well, it would be even more interesting if Sara would take his place and we'd see how Sara would do. I hope she will be replacing him, because I have burned out many times and I wouldn't hope anyone to go through something that hard. If she'd take his place, it's like both of them wins.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but as a native speaker, I think the biggest mistake for Sara was to sing in Finnish. The lyrics were absolutely awful! Speaking openly about mental health is brave and always highly recommendable. I know the lyrics were personal to her but (no offence) she sounded like a whiny spoiled teen
I’ve been nagging in many places about this ”Paskana” word. No, it doesn’t offend me; Im a Finn and we do like use our curse words, but it was just like a neon sign and was shouted out like one too! Got annoyted by it after first hearing. Naturally just Finnish can understand it and it’s douple (even triple) meaning as it stands.. wondering if captions would have been ”I am shitty by” or something shit -compared. Only in German with Scheisse would have worked.. all others would have bleebed the word and changed to something totally different. Loving all artist doing in Finnish. Huge plus!! 🤩
I just hated the winner, sorry Finland.. I have no doubt people will vote for this, but this is not my thing at all. It is currently my second to last out of all the published songs. For me it was all about Sara.❤

Nah, I would say strong chance of a top 10 depending on if they can keep the staging as good as it was. It was easily the best live performance of UMK, at least out of the ones that were actually competing. Käärijä x Erika Vikman would've been an easy win though, but I feel like it's tradition at this point for the UMK interval acts to rival the actual competitors

And Windows95man is not a joke entry, he embodies the Finnish state of mind, even our freedom of nudity is presented. He comes from a denim egg like in Finnish Karelian lore the world is birthed by a bluebill with an egg and he is freely himself, not hurting anyone and partying. Fun fact, he was the preshow on Käärijä's first gig after Eurovision. So stop sulking, life is better when you are not trying to win over everyone else. Better to live on fun side and not care who is the winner. Life is not about being the best.

Yes, juries gave their points before saturday's live show. Henri said his vocals were really bad and he almost fainted in jury performance😞

Let's be honest here. Sara's performance just wasn't that great. Staging was quite meh and her vocals were off.
When it comes to ballads the vocals absolutely have to be 100% right. That's just how it goes.
All the other entries just dropped the ball at some point and windows95man did a superb live performance.
I never thought I would be voting them but in the end I did because it was an absolute bonkers moment and I laughed my ass off through the whole thing.

Summer is better. Right now it is less cold, perhaps +1, but it is worse, as we can get rain or sleet, and the walkways and roads become wet and slippery with ice. Summer is incredible, and there are loads of festivals to attend!

I absolutely adore and I'm very fond of Tampere. My dad is from there and we've visited the city multiple times. Exhibitions at Vapriikki have been must seen as well hanging out with my cousins. I don't know what else to say. I am super excited about this years UMK and upcoming Eurovision contest as every year since 2014. I was expecting Sara actually win UMK this year but televotes suprised me out of bush (Literal translation from finnish saying of "puskasta" like coming out of left field or something).

As a canadian i realized that canada hasdtotally warped my sense of what is a normal temp or what winter clothes most people have. I had several moments where all my brain could think was why arent you wearing boots/why are all these people electing to wear running shoes in winter. Then I remembered that most people don't live in countries where in primary school you were only allowed to have indoor recess when it got below -40 C and otherwise we were told to basically suck it up. Most non-nordic europeans probably don't have the same winter dress options that seem the bare minimum to me.

Myself, I was rooting for Sara and Cyan Kicks, and afraid of W95M winning, and then the latter happened... In a way, I am not that surprised in the end, as they had a great performance, and the song is simply fun. However, in my humble opinion, the best performance was probably by Sexmane - so surprised by how few points he got, and the same goes for Sini Sabotage, although there the performance didn't get to the highs of the video. Cyan Kicks had, imo, one of the worst performances unfortunately - why did they choose to be so static?
Personally, I believe that Sara Siipola's fall is mostly based on how her performance was shown on television - there simply was something wrong about it. Well, she can still comfort herself with having the most popular song of all the contributions to the final (at least according to Spotify Finland's top 50).

Windows95man is thinking again if he has the energy to withstand all the stress of Eurovision. It is clear Windows95man could do well, it would be even more interesting if Sara would take his place and we'd see how Sara would do. This might be an unpopular opinion, but as a native speaker, I think the biggest mistake for Sara was to sing in Finnish. The lyrics were absolutely awful! Speaking openly about mental health is brave and always highly recommendable. I know the lyrics were personal to her but (no offence) she sounded like a whiny spoiled teen
I’ve been nagging in many places about this ”Paskana” word. No, it doesn’t offend me; Im a Finn and we do like use our curse words, but it was just like a neon sign and was shouted out like one too! Got annoyted by it after first hearing. Naturally just Finnish can understand it and it’s douple (even triple) meaning as it stands.. wondering if captions would have been ”I am shitty by” or something shit -compared. Only in German with Scheisse would have worked.. all others would have bleebed the word and changed to something totally different.

Nah, I would say strong chance of a top 10 depending on if they can keep the staging as good as it was. It was easily the best live performance of UMK, at least out of the ones that were actually competing. Käärijä x Erika Vikman would've been an easy win though, but I feel like it's tradition at this point for the UMK interval acts to rival the actual competitors

And Windows95man is not a joke entry, he embodies the Finnish state of mind, even our freedom of nudity is presented. He comes from a denim egg like in Finnish Karelian lore the world is birthed by a bluebill with an egg and he is freely himself, not hurting anyone and partying. Fun fact, he was the preshow on Käärijä's first gig after Eurovision.
So stop sulking, life is better when you are not trying to win over everyone else. Better to live on fun side and not care who is the winner. Life is not about being the best.
