I bought a 26 year old Toyota Corolla for $100. It had been sitting for 8 years. I replaced the rusty gas tank, fuel pump and fuel lines with cheap, junkyard stuff. I got the engine started easily, but it was running very badly. By pulling spark plug wires, I determined it was running apparently on only two cylinders. I thought it had stuck valves or bad fuel injectors.
I tried a $9 can of liquid SeaFoam, the old fashioned way, that is by warming up the engine, then slowly pouring the liquid in the brake booster hose. I did about 2/3 of the can, and then poured in enough to make the engine stall. I let it sit 7 minutes, and then re-started the engine. At that point I witnessed the most dramatic automotive resurrection I've ever seen. After running five or so seconds, the idle smoothed out, the dead miss went away. The car runs absolutely fantastic now. Very responsive, lots of power. Awesome! Customer for life. My neighbor witnessed this miracle also. Please send my T-shirt to....

Note: You likely have dirty compression rings that could use more cleaning.
If you can leave the car to sit for 1 to 3 days, try this: Pull the spark plugs and pour an ounce of Sea Foam (or easier, Sea Foam Spray) into each cylinder cavity. With the plugs removed, crank the engine for 1 or 2 seconds. Leave the plugs out overnight (or better, for two or three days). If can leave for 2 or 3 days, crank engine once per day after adding a little more Sea Foam. Sea Foam will work to dissolve hydrocarbon residues from the compression rings, helping to recover compression and power. After soak, seat plugs and go.

I have a 2008 Dodge Nitro 3.7L 334,678 miles on it. I've been using Seafoam in the fuel tank every 3rd tank, added to the oil 200 miles before I change the oil,I use Mobil One full synthetic and change it every 5,000 miles, and I've used the Seafoam fogger 2 times and the engine runs like it has 30,000 miles on it. I swear by Seafoam!

@@RCsFinest yes you can add it to the oil (atleast the can that doesn't spay). I'm pretty sure it's 1 oz of seafoam for every quart of oil your motor holds.

I used the same method for my 2010 Nissan Rogue. The car had 75,000 miles on it and ran not bad. However, after 10 - 15 minutes of driving and then coming to a stop the car would always shake and shudder. I applied a can of the upper engine cleaner directly to the throttle body, I only used about half the can. After that, it was better than new. I could not believe it. Customer for life!! I would love a tshirt or hoodie to represent my seafoam loyalty!!!

I dont even use gasoline anymore. Sure its expensive to fill up on seafoam but I think its worth it.
That aint nothin. We had a car run out if gas and just to give it enough to move it around the house I put a can in it. Then another guy put another can. Then another can. If there was a drop of gasoline left in it, it was eaten by seafoam🤣

Seafoam and this Seafoam Spray process just saved me a day changing out plenum gaskets on my Jeep .. and possibly a lot more! Jeep ran fine yesterday, started today and didn't sound quite right. I was half way between home and local auto parts store for another project when the check engine line popped up and beeped in intervals... which is different than when it vapor locks. Coded - [cylinder 3 misfire, intake manifold, plenum gasket, injectors] ... and I was a bit stressed. I knew I had Seafoam spray and a couple more cans for the fuel tank at home, so Iought 1 can of seafoam and plenum gasket set .. dumped the seafoam in and hobbled back, preparing myself to spend the rest of the day cussing the intake manifold. I dumped a second can of seafoam into my tank and got my husband to help with the spray process in this video. Jeep spit and sputterd and popped and made noises I never want to hear again but we got the can emptied.... let it sit for about 15 minutes and held my breath while I started it up. I still can't believe it, but it sounded perfectly normal [holy $hit!]. I checked codes with my trail dash 2... zero codes! Drove it around for about 15 minutes at varied speeds and had zero issues.... and still zero codes!

I poured 2 big cans of Sea Foam dorectly into my empty gas tank before filling up with fuel. My car smoked for about a week while the Sea Foam did its magic. Thank you Sea Foam! I would really appreciate a T-Shirt or something if you can find it in your heart to do so. Peace

1993 Dodge 250 pick up. 318 V8. Ran REALLY rough. Like hardly could keep it going. I thought I needed a valve job. Couldn't find any vacuum leaks.
A can in the tank and a can of spray into the intake and a little driving. I even forgot to warm it up, but it's driving NICE. I love this stuff.

I added half a seafoam bottle to my 02 Honda Accord via the brake booster hose while someone revved engine to 2k rpms. The rest was poured inside the gas tank. Let it sit for 15-20 min and took it for an aggressive drive, and wow, I felt the car accelerate faster, it certainly did something good, car feels stronger and snappy too. Great product !

I love this stuff, I have been using it for years on all my engines. Years ago I had a Suburban that was burning oil big time, I put SeaFoam in the gas tank and in the break booster system as the used to recommend and after a huge puff of smoke the engine never burned oil again for many miles after this.
I followed these steps exactly and wow it really worked. Before I had so much carbon build up, just taking a 5 minute drive was enough to leave me sick for the day but just one bottle of sea foam and my car is even driving better and clean

Something missed here. Once you've done the treatement, give it the Itallian Tune Up, that is drive it hard for at least 20 minutes to get the carbon out of the system.

I just used this on a 2001 VW Jetta, it worked great and it improved the idle and acceleration. No joke, this is simple and easy. I didn't really expect that much of a boost in performance, I will certainly use this product again.

I just did it to my 2016 F-150 5.0 with 60k on it. I have to say Nice it worked well. Let it hot soak then took it for a ride hit the gas and it bogged down then pooped out a big white smoke cloud and wow it has more throttle response and idles really smooth now. @@randall1959 Thank you for the quick response. Yeah, I don't know what is going on with my '98 Ranger. It was running fine, and then one morning it just cranked, but wouldn't turn over. I put some starter fluid in the throttle body, and it started right up. I drove it around, and it didn't die out, clatter, etc. on me. However, after a couple of days of sitting, it did the same thing when I tried to turn it on. I used starter fluid again, and no problem. Now, I'm driving with a can of starter fluid and an 8mm socket wrench. Any thoughts?

I couldn't get my air intake boot off so just sprayed carburetor cleaner spray through it. I had concerns id screw something up but so far seems ok after I did a test drive. It doesn't seem to struggle accelerating at stops and down highway as much. Lot better.

Bryan i think its all good now! I disconnected the neg batt term and while i was in there i said to myself well let me go ahead and clean the MAF sensor i noticed the plastic connector was wet wondering if it was from my DIY Fuel induction service. So i dried it up cleaned the MAF sensor with CRC MAF sensor cleaner and then i said while im in here might as well clean my thottle body with some CRC throttle body cleaner. Put it all back together. Turned the key let it sit for a couple min cranked it up and drove down the street and back and NO ENGINE LIGHT ON!!! YAY!!! THNX FOR YOUR HELP AND INPUT!
This won't do anything to injectors. However what does work, if you have a set of spare injectors, is soaking the injectors in Sea Foam for a few weeks (remove all injector rubber rings before soaking). That will help clean the injectors inside.
It will clean your injectors if you put it in the tank.
I didn't have any check engine lights on my PT Cruiser but I wanted to do a fuel system clean as preventative maintenance. The owner's manual doesn't say anything about cleaning the fuel system so I never really think about it. I bought some throttle body cleaner, regular can of Sea Foam, and the Sea Foam spay. I poured the entire can of Sea Foam in the gas tank, cleaned the throttle body, and then sprayed the Sea Foam spay like the video. I wasn't having any problems before but now the engine idles smoother and when I hit the gas after a stop sign, it doesn't surge or hesitate anymore. I'll probably start doing this more often. The car has 125k miles and is my daily driver. I did this at night time but there sure was a lot of stuff coming out of the tailpipe.
Thanks for the post What you described is what most people experience after using Sea Foam Spray. Now that you have the hang of it, tell your friends how easy it is to use...And all you need to do is a treatment 2 to 4 times a year to keep the intake valves and upper engine cleaner.

Yes, the flies were right out of the Amityville Horror, lol. My brother from another mother is an ASE mechanic, one of the best i know, and he turned me on to Sea Foam. Now that I’m having throttle body issues, THIS chick is running out and getting a can of your throttle body cleaner .... like now...
THis stuff does really work i used to think that it was bad and scoured the head of the engine but it really does clean up all the carbon residue or whatever and your engine will breathe which makes a huge increase in perfomance to the way your engine runs. I was wrong in dissing this product and i want to clarify that this does really work and i was wrong in saying it does not but yes it does.

Update...I used and ther misfiring decreased and check engine light went off! I think short can should clean it some more!

I did this procedure today on my 2016 kia soul 2.0L GDI engine for the first time since purchased new. It has 60,902 miles. It started good. Drove out of neighborhood subdivision with no signs of smoke. Pulled out on to the main road and kicked it down alittle, not a ton, but spirited, it spit and sputtered for a second, then plums of white smoke filled the air so much behind me I couldnt see anything behind me in my rear view mirror. Hope I didnt cause in major damage to my piston rings.

Im impressed with this product i used one can ,a third in my vacuum , a third in my gas tank and a third in my engine oil, engine runs much smoother more power, it used to clank a bit for a minute on cold start now its much quieter and it was down on power and bogging at low rpm, now has the power it should, best product of this type I have ever used

I noticed if you use it in your oil crankcase it has a tendency to ruin the valve cover gasket.
I ran Seafoam through a lawnmower that had been sitting outside(covered) for 5-6 years and after a lot of smoke it still runs to this day.
The initial problem was that would never run longer than 5 mins. I had only had it about a year and it was in the shop 3 times with the same results. I figured it couldn't hurt to see if the Seafoam treatment would work.

Something I would like to point out, be careful when cleaning your throttle body. there are some designs thet specificly say on the throttle body not to scrub or wipe as this can destroy the glazed finish on the inside of the throttle body.
There is a canister tool for attaching to fuel rail, plus has a throttle body attachment ('S' tool) for upper intake cleaning.

Thank you for the video! I did the application through my throttle body, with my wife keeping our GMC Yukon at 2k RPM throughout the spraying. Afterwards, I let it hot soak for 15 minutes with the engine off. Everything was smooth, but I didn't get any "clouds of smoke" like I've seen/heard others get. Did I do something wrong, or did it not work? Or was my system just likely pretty clean?
Doesn't seem you did anything wrong. Sometimes you see the oil vapor (white smoke), sometime you don't. Either way is not significant.

@@julioserna5659 Yes, that's correct. A hot soak means that you're shutting off the engine when it's still hot and the treatment is working it the combustion chamber, soaking into upper engine residue/deposits.

Can't you short your electrical system opening the throttle body while the car is running?
The throttle body is closed/sealed by the boot during the application. Other is most modern cars won't start without the boot attached.

Why would you remove the throttle plate? If you meant intake boot, no worries.
I never said I wanted to remove the throttle plate? I said 'move' it, like to get the seafoam spray straw past it, so I can use it to clean my engine. I've heard from numerous professional mechanics that if you move the throttle plate with the negative terminal connected, it could short my entire electrical system.
At 2:41 he says to put the nozzle about 1/4" in front of the throttle plate - not past it. You can also find this in the written instructions on the Seafoam website.
Went to a shop to get my fuel injectors cleaned by the air compressed can pump thing through the fuel line on top of the engine. Paid $200 for what I thought was injection service but after I get home and I saw the statement/receipt it was intake service. So I pop the hood and noticed my brake booster line was removed and was still wet with some solution then I found the white sea foam cap sitting on my oil rag under the water reservoir. So basically paid $200 for them to run sea foam through my break booster and fuel tank.... And car runs worse. Thanks City Garage in Fort Worth Texas 👍👍👍.
Thanks for the description. If a compressed air device (canister) was used the product would have been applied directly into the fuel rail to clean through the fuel injectors. As you likely know, application through a brake booster will not clean fuel injectors. If you drive without the brake booster line attached, the engine should run rough and the power brakes won't work... Apart from the receipt, did you get any clarification from the shop about what service was performed?
No compressed air. They went through break booster.
Sea Foam Official and I'm sorry what I meant was I could tell they removed my break booster because the end of the vacuum line was still oliy/wet from either sea foam they used or something else. Either way truck has slightly more power but just annoyed they didn't understand what I needed done. Thanks for response and you guys have an awesome product.

My Cadillac CTS was idling rough even after doing plugs and coils, had fuel injector code on cylinder 4..put in some seafoam and no more flashing engine light or rough idle.
Fellows: Take note that this guy makes it look simple; it isn't.
The instruction to have a helper keep the RPMs at a certain point presents a single guy with a problem. On my 2000 Corolla, you have to carefully keep the throttle increased a bit as you spray in the SeaFoam to keep the engine running. Near the end of the process, you will get considerable white smoke out of the tailpipe, which is the varnish, etc. being burned and flushed loose. My Advance Auto guy helped me do it (he has done it many times) and once you see it done, it is simple. The red skinny tube should not touch the 'butterfly' valve... just nearly touch it when it's opened.

I first used SeaFoam spray in a 2012 Chevy Avalanche 5.3L. I was unsuccessful with the smoke show at the end but I believe I did it incorrectly (I think it’s because I left the straw of the van fully extended, as opposed to cutting it down so the spray had more pressure towards the throttle plate). I just performed it on my 2007 Charger, I cut the straw down and forced it into the throttle more, let it soak for 10 minutes and started it. Originally I had a slight backfire and some smoke, it did throw an engine light but that quickly went away (presumably because of the MAF, even though I applied it after it) and gunned it going uphill, and it looked like someone set off 4 smoke bombs!! They weren’t kidding when they say it cleans! It’ll be interesting to see how much my fuel mileage increases! I plan to use SeaFoam again!

If the code light does not go back to normal after 30 drive miles, try disconnecting the crank battery for 15 minutes to re-set.
Relearn the throttle body position.
It will also set your o2 sensors off.all the smoke tells the computer no oxygen flow in exhaust. May have to reset with scanner or disconnect battery.
I’m going to try the sea foam gas treatment and I take cleaner combo on my old Jeep tonight. Trying to clean the old girl out and hopefully clean my injectors too.

Hi Jordan: Sea Foam Spray applied through the intake can appear from exhaust in the form of white oil vapor. There are many variables that determine more or less. Does it matter? No. Is it a factor or indicator? Not at all.

It smokes alot when u add it tru the vacume hose it's a diffrent procedure. I suck 1 can into the vacuum hose and let it sit overnight. This stuff works awsome, also i recommend marvel oil and lucas are my top 3 goto products.
Respectfully, please don't suck any fluid through a vacuum line. That's an easy way hydrolock your engine - can easily end up bending connecting rods and the whole chain of events... You're also NOT atomizing the product, so the product is just getting pushed out/going to waste.
I made my malibus 2.4 runaway I was devastated then felt so dumb when it started and ran fine I thought she blew I had never seen a fuel injected engine runaway it wasn’t fun but she’s still pulling strong

I have had this old Ford pickup for twelve years and have used cheap injector cleaners and the truck ran, but now I think I need to use Seafoam spray and see what miracle happens. Truck runs and I love the old gray lady, but I just love to start saving gas and have a smooth running machine. The poor engine is huge: four sixty and it makes a ton of noise. I sure hope the seafoam does miracles galore. I put some seafoam in the tank in the back and it sputtered and had fits but in time it settled down and started running ok. I cannot wait to do the spray thing in the upper intake part. It is thirty and dirty, but I love her. I have fixed various parts of her, but now comes the interesting part, right? byejoe---

My 2013 Porsche Cayenne GTS has 100k miles on it. I felt there was a power loss. There are several mods on the car yet it just did not seem up to full power. I put 2 cans into the gas tank (25gal tank). I followed the instructions. The car was hot when I disconnected the pendulum. I ran it at about 1500 RPM's and sprayed the entire can into the intake plate. It has visible carbon on it so I can only assume what was inside. You could see gunk coming off the intake as I was doing it and smoke coming out the tail pipe. I turned the car off and let it sit for 9 minutes. When I started it up it looked like it was on fire so much smoke was coming out. That continued for some initial driving but I could notice a difference. This morning when I started it and ran it OMG..... There was a huge power difference. I plan to do this again in 5k miles to get it really clean. Super happy with how this product has worked!

Yes, will help to clean your idle control. You can also remove the idle air control valve to spray directly.
I put SeaFoam in my gas tank every third or fourth fill-up on my 1996 Tacoma with 325,000 miles. After seeing this video, I'm going to get the spray and use it on the intake of my wife's 2013 Subaru Crosstrek with direct injection. I never thought about the intake valves getting dirty from lack of cleaning from fuel not passing over them. I'm not a mechanic. Old dogs CAN learn new tricks. I'd guess cleaning everything from intake back would help keep the catalytic converter in shape as well. We'll see.

I don’t even remove the intake boot in front of the throttle body. I simply drilled a “seafoam injection port” on top of the plastic boot, it’s got a tiny screw and o ring to seal it.
To clean , I remove the screw/oring, insert the seafoam can hose, fire up the engine and spray away until the can is empty. Shut off the engine, hot soak for an hour. Re-install the screw/o ring and then take the truck for a HARD highway drive.
While my car will never be at 100%, I finally tried it...I am highly impressed. Like I said, my car will never be at 100%, however it is running 100% better than it was.

You will likely have to clear the DTC codes as this will cause a rich fuel mixture. Don't know if it works though...worth a try.
If anything it will be lean due to a small air gap unmetered.

I never sprayed it directly in the intake because I have no help. but I did pour the seafoam liquid that goes directly in the gas tank. I did it to my 95 5.0 pushrod and my 97 Mercury Cougar 4.6 sohc I didn't notice a difference except light white smoked puffing till the tank is empty or gets diluted from adding more gas. I added my merc cause yours is ohc. I do wanna try the spray directly into the intake on both cars. No help 😕

+MrandMrsHayday That's a great (and important) question! Application through the vacuum line works EXCEPT not as thoroughly. THREE IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: 1) Vacuum line application does not clean the upper Intake while Sea Foam Spray cleans oil and gasoline vapor residues from the upper intake (throttle body, manifold) to the chamber. 2) Depending on engine make, vacuum application does not always feed all cylinders while Sea Foam Spray into the throttle body works its way throughout the entire top end, then into all cylinders. 3) Safer for non-professionals! The Spray version correctly applied through the throttle body eliminates the risk of liquid in a cylinder (vacuum induction misapplication), which is why Sea Foam notes "PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE" on the Sea Foam Motor Treatment can.
I just put the spray threw the throttle body. Then put seafoam threw both sides of intake on my 2004 3.5 HO it has two throttle bodies. Also put a can in the tank! The car has 163,000. I run a K and N air filter synthetic Valvoline 5w30 high mileage oil. This engine is 255 hp and 250 torque! In such a big beautiful full size car. I don't like the Charger 300 body style. Its also has front wheel drive with traction control. 22mpg and 27 mpg on the highway. This car runs so much better! Just like it was new! So try seafoam. Like I did! Don't take it to the dealership. $ 40 and your car will run like new. Please read the label on cans. Follow the direction and watch video's on You tube. I don't have backing from Seafoam! Do you add so much at the end to stall the engine like in mowers or just slowly spray contents until empty? ALso, how often does this need to be done? I have not tried it in my car yet but, the results in my mowers were amazing! Before, the engines ran harsh, had to pull the cord many times to get them to start. After using the Seafoam the mowers were as smooth as butter and start on first pull. This is not a gimmick contrary to what some say. It really works. I hope I will just as good result in my Elantra.
Hi Val - great question. For an auto, spray until empty with RPM up. For mower, you only need an ounce or two so don't empty the can. For cars, two times a year minimum. For mowers, cleaning through the air intake at least once a season and before you store the engine (that's when you should stall out the engine).
Is it better to do the treatment before or after an oil change, or does it even matter? Also I have throttle body injection (chevy s10 blazer with 4.3 v6) so is this the proper method for my engine? Great video, thanks.
Thank you for the question. Cleaning the top engine area has no relationship the crankcase oil so can do any time during an oil life interval. Yes, will work great on your truck's throttle body intake.

You can do a repeat whenever you wish, even back to back. From there we recommend 2 to 4 treatments per car per year.

I'm getting a P0401 on my 04 Expediton and really hope this works so I don't have to remove my throttle body. Replace the EGR Valve, sensor, Solenoid, and worn rubber fitting. Got rid of all the other codes but that one.
Stuff wears out but definitely worth a shot. I would try two treatments back to back. Let us know what happens!

Put a quarter of a can to quarter tank of gas and after 2days it clear ed the major feul problems (poor acceleration) . Like i said it took days for it to get through my fuel system gonna add more thanks seafoam

beautiful. even the same motor I needed help on. I removed my throttle body and cleaned it (it was filthy ) did my best on the intake manifold. I'm wondering what my valves look like if my throttle body looked the way it did. I noticed you moved the throttle plate with your hand, I did as well when cleaning it but it was completely removed. I was telling a guy about that and he told me he had to replace a throttle body once because he moved it by hand and threw a sensor out of wack or something. does the cable need to be disconnected from the TB when inserting the seafoam nozzle?
Thanks, Michael. To answer your question: No, no disconnection. The video doesn't leave out anything. As far as the throttle plate goes, most Chevys are OK to push if keys are off. Ultimately, there's no need to touch the throttle plate whatsoever Have a helper turn the key on and press the foot pedal to show what side of the plate turns in.

2009 Scion XB, check engine light on, OBD-II code p0151 & p0172. Used 1 can Sea Foam Spray. My friend shut off the engine while I sprayed for 2 to 3 seconds more. I leave for almost 2 hours. Restart engine for 5 minutes, drive for 10 minutes more. Reset codes. Engine running quieter and better gas mileage. No more codes.

I did as instructed perfectly. Yes it was long overdue and the smoked that blew out of the exhaust burning the deposits was remarkable. Now my engine light is on and the engine is missing. Did the spark plugs get fouled and will it burn off while driving?
If you fouled a plug it's best to remove and clean the business end. (It won't likely clean itself.) A gas stove flame works great for burning off the soot on the electrode. Code should reset once corrected. If not, disconnect the negative crank battery. Whenever using Sea Foam Spray, make sure you hold RPM at 2,000 to prevent fouling plugs.
Thank you. Before I took out the plugs I Yes I did hold the idle at 2,000rpm/ No problems. Drove her about 5 miles. Runs great! I just had to reset the code. I also tried Gumout first as a little test just spraying and the toothbrush. Nope! You need Sea Foam to get all that carbon/crude to break free. Gumout didn't touch it at all. And wipe in there with a clean cloth. Wow! The black stuff I wiped out. A lot!. Been using Sea Foam in cars . trucks, motorcycle, lawn tractor, walk behind mower and all my neighbors everything I service for them. LOVE IT!@@SeaFoamOfficial

Been using Sea Foam for a very long time. Just started getting a cylinder 3 misfires and It's not the plugs or coil pack. It goes away once the engine warms up. Going to try this tomorrow and report back the results.

I would not be too worried. It's supposed to go into the engine, btw. If you sprayed INTO your air filter, replace the air filter because the Sea Foam oil soaked in the filter won't go away cause a lot of dust/dirt to stick.
Mercedes M113 engines have the MAF sensor RIGHT ON THE INTAKE plenum, the throttle body is UNDER the intake, you have to spray it through the MAF to get it in the engine, because even the PCV lines bypass the TB ...
Have never heard of a MAF located downstream from a throttle plate. MAF sensor (intake air) or MAP (intake manifold)? If spray must go near MAF, just make sure your tube is pointed at the throttle plate opening and the RPM is 2,000 (elevated) as you spray.
I am very pleased with the results. backed up to a wall of tall bushes to use as smoke filter at local shopping mall LOL no smoke. car doesn't pink at 70mph, slightly pings if I punch pedal to the metal at 95mph. use to go up a 2 mile hill at 50mph, now I can go 65mph. How's that for 132,000 original miles
Note that you can keep using it to keep working to overcome pings/flat spots. If me, I'd do a treatment every week till the ping goes away. Try longer hot soaks, too.
Pretty shitty. Most cars at 132K are still running just fine and not pinging.
Use higher octane fuel or get it tuned.

I have a Japanese in-line, six cylinder diesel with 100,000 miles runs just OK ,always going to fail the emissions test should I put it in the oil and the diesel fuel and the intake could this help me will it cause any damage anywhere?
Yes for adding to fuel and oil. No, do not add to a diesel intake.
