Sick intro Brian. Would love to see a personal video soon: -What are your goals for 2015? -What does your journaling look like? -What was your biggest struggle of 2014 (how did you handle it) -Biggest parenting tips / unexpected lessons. -How the heck you maintain the consistant intensity / passion for this work (notes / videos / academy / etc). It's outstanding bro. Just some ideas. Started putting out videos again on my channel. Definitely get a ton of ideas / inspiration from you bro. Thanks again. -Clark
Clark Danger Thanks for the kind words and *awesome* questions! Seed planted. Quick thoughts: -What are your goals for 2015? I have one primary creative (/biz) goal: 250 new Notes. That drives the whole show. (That’s also a TON of reading. Hah. 25+ hours/week + the 2 hours to write a Note on each book + 1 hour for MP3 + TV = busy + focused and no time on anything other than genius-zone stuff. Blessed to have a genius running the biz side of things for me. Evan from webuild.io/ . :) Sub-goals include: 52 weekly newsletters + 300 daily newsletters (I hand pick each Big Idea) + 350 videos (stoked to share a ton of free goodness while practicing my craft :) The biz by-product of that? 10,000 people paying us $10/mo. We hit 1,000 in 30 days. Process is primary for me. That’s the by-product of consistently astonishing. -What does your journaling look like? I don’t do a whole lot these days. Too busy crushing it. haha. I bust it out when I find an amazing exercise in a book. And I keep something called a “performance analysis” a la www.mentalmanagementstore.com/product/performance-analysis-the-ultimate-performance-journal/) -What was your biggest struggle of 2014 (how did you handle it) My realization that we were a) trying to do too much with en*theos and not doing any of them as well as we could + b) not even doing the right thing within those things. We made a huge shift to focus exclusively on my work-shutting off two biz units and putting the third on autopilot. Challenging at the time but so good. -Biggest parenting tips / unexpected lessons. Hmmmm… Good question! I’m going to be unpacking a ton of parenting stuff soon. For now, we love (!!!) RIE (rie.org/)-all about cultivating autonomy, self-reliance, respect, etc. That’s the core of our practice. -How the heck you maintain the consistant intensity / passion for this work (notes / videos / academy / etc). It's outstanding bro. Thank you! #1 thing: I’ve Turned Pro. I am absolutely (!) committed to showing up and doing the work. Tied for #1: I love what I do and feel extraordinarily blessed to have the opportunity to do it. And, it’s all one big game for me. I love creating big goals and then figuring out how to create a perfect day (every day!) to make it happen. So fun! High fives, my brother!
***** Wow. Gave me goosebumps. Thank you!! We're blessed to have thousands already and I'm having fun showing up and doing the work to be worthy of inspiring that many people. I appreciate your kind words and support!
***** Another wow. I'm thrilled (!!!) my work is helping you optimize and reach your goals and, again, I very much appreciate your kind words and support. The fun has just begun. Let's do this!!!! :)
Since self-acceptance is the first pillar of happiness (Nathaniel Branden or Tal Ben-Shahar), and self-acceptance is derived from a sense of self-efficacy, it makes perfect sense that discipline would increase happiness. My own experience certainly bears this out. Another beautiful synthesis of ideas, thanks again Brian!
Wow! Brian you are great.. Not only you read all these phenomenal books and share with us big ideas but you also do it with passion and enthusiasm! --> Just do the next right thing.
Best mantra -- just do the next right thing -- slow down and be silent and cultivate the ability to be in the gap -- be in the gap -- just do the next right thing -- WoW!! Loving it
As a Greek woman I will choose arete! A value that has grown roots inside of me from an early age. Thank you Brian for reminding us the important things in life!
You're right. I do know what the next right thing is. So why am I not doing it right now? Good question. Oh wait. Now I am doing it. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation, Brian. Keep up the good work.
Progress - Embrace progress - progress not perfection. The integrity of the process determines the outcome. Celebrate your small successes. Next Right Thing - Just do the next right thing. There is always only one thing to do. The grains of sand flow through the eye of an hour glass one at a time. This helps keep you anchored in the moment. We always know the next right thing to do. SLOOOOOW Down! Arete' - if you want to have happiness then express the highest version of yourself moment to moment to moment. Discipline and happiness (create mini-habits) are closely related. How much discipline should I exert? How happy do you want to be? Simplify - get clear on what you want in life (black hole focus) and allow that one thing to literally pull you in that direction. Tidy up and declutter. Serve - Albert Schweitzer (Nobel prize winner 1953) - "I am certain of one thing. The only ones among us who will be truly happy are those of us who have sought and found a way to serve." How can I serve? vs What's in it for me? Thanks, Brian Arete"
Discipline and Happiness -> Great idea, I know for myself, that discipline is essencial, but how to prove it to other people who think, that success could come easily? Discipline corelate to Hapiness! Love ti!
LOVED it! I finally signed up for your Philosophers Notes. I'm really happy about it, and I appreciate that you keep the price really reasonable. YAY YOU!! Now...question. I just checked your site for the PN for Perfectly Yourself. Couldn't find it. That was the first time I've even logged in. What did I do wrong?
Chris Saunders Hey Chris!! Awesome!!! Thanks for your support!! You're not doing anything wrong! That one is coming soon as I'm still polishing it but here's the top secret link! Shhhhhh. :) cl.ly/0P3B371P1I1y
