Teoh Yi Chie , love the video, you would get better purples with phthalo blue green shade, and quin magenta... it's really hard to get purple with a warm red... I use acrylic, Indian yellow it's similar to hansa, quin crimson similar to magenta, and phthalo blue green shade... the crimson also can be made a stronger red with the smallest touch of Indian yellow
Mary Algar I totally agree, and it is not easy to do in my opinion! I love the look and yet, when I am painting I just cannot get my hand to purposely color outside the lines. It’s very frustrating. I think it’s funny when he says he’s being lazy! If it was just about being lazy I’d have no problem accomplishing the look! 😆
Thanks for sharing your pre-painting thinking/planning of colours. That was helpful. I love how you can simplify busy urban scenes. You have a real talent!
Yessss thank you Teoh I've been waiting for this 😍 You made this scene look so interesting! I'm amazed by these beautiful shadows, this was wonderful 👏
i am a fan. i love how you keep it simple and natural giving images that warm lovely vibe that reminds me of illustrations in books of my childhood. best regards
This palette's a good way to fast track yourself to bright oranges, decent greens, and weak violets, all without any granulation. Pretty cool if that's what you're going for!
Thanks. Watercolor Misfit said she will recommend me in one of the videos, but I do not know which one. Maybe I will check out her videos later. hahahaa
Teoh Yi Chie She kept her word. She is such a sweet girl. It should be her most recent video.. I have no clue how to share links or I would share it here. I can go find out which title it is though.
Teoh Yi Chie. I think I might have figured out how to share a link for the first time ever lol.... Let me know if it doesn't work and I will try again. Have a blessed day. th-cam.com/video/8-tWlfxu-nk/w-d-xo.html
Hey teoh i just wanted to tell you that I love your videos and its great to see how much work you put in your TH-cam channel keep it up we really appreciate it !
Teoh, I've been a long time fan of W/N paints, and just recently started to try out some of Daniel Smiths pigments. I'm loving them ... I do like your mix today, will give it a try. Thanks for all you do.
I wish I could watercolor as well as you can. It just means I need to practice more! I was wondering, what type of brushes were you using? Like the brand?
This is late, but perhaps try student grade paints as they use more fillers--to keep them at affordable prices--and that would remove some of the granulation the paints give.
Hi, Teoh! I liked the way you pointed out things you were focusing on in the picture at the beginning. I'm thoroughly enjoying these color triad videos and am about to go through and watch them again. It's a great way to see the mixes the colors are capable of. I don't remember seeing a CMY (cyan, magenta, yellow) palette, though I'll check again. If you haven't, I'd love to see what you think of them. Daniel Smith's Quinacridone Lilac is supposed to be a good magenta, though I've not tried it yet. Just an FYI, their Quinacridone Magenta is not. Thanks for creating these videos.
Teoh Yi Chie I wondered if others were interested in it as well, especially with the whole RYB vs CMY debate heating up. Thanks for the rapid response. 😺
This was an interesting color mix. I have a question about the Phthalo Blue. I use Phthalo Blue from Daniel Smith. It does not say Red Shade or Green Shade on it. I have noticed in other TH-cam videos that there is a Green Shade version of Phthalo Blue along with the Red Shade version that you used in this video. My question is, can this Phthalo Blue (Red Shade) be used in place of French Ultramarine or Ultramarine Blue? On the video, it looks similar. I just thought of another question, how do the three different Phthalo Blues look if compared side by side? The Phthalo Blue that I have is PB 15:3. I also have Joe's Blue which is also a Phthalo Blue PB 15. is my DS Phthalo closer to Phthalo Blue (Green Shade)?
+Donna G Phthalo Blue RS is PB15:6, and GS is 15:3. Ultramarine Blue is going to look slightly different from Phthalo Blue RS. Phthalo is a really strong colour. It’s also a non granulating colour unlike Ultramarine. When you have two swatches side by side, you can tell them apart easily. Here are some sample swatches www.parkablogs.com/picture/phthalo-blue-green-vs-red-shade

I think that your style of "not colouring within the lines" is what makes your paintings special.
+Mary Algar Thanks. 😁 Colouring within the lines will take me twice as long 😂
This is reall!! Truee

I love these limited palette videos!
Thanks ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Me too!! I wish there were more! I’ve watched each one at least 3 times.. I’m going to have to look in to following him on patreon! 😊
simple picture but with wonderful colour blending, the dark shade make the picture realistic and alive.
The gray you get with this limited palette is really very nice. Thanks again for this long video in which we learn things !
Yours is one of my favorite art channels for product reviews! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks Teoh, that Hansa yellow is a super colour . I also like the yellow plus scarlet mix. It really glows.

Teoh Yi Chie You are very welcome.. Oh, and The Watercolor Misfit highly recommends you.. I thought you should know if you didn't already.

Phthalo blue red shade in mass tone looks very blue and less violet in undertone
A great video once again!!
Thanks ☜(˚▽˚)☞
Awesome tutorial, Teoh. Thank you.

Another great video. Thank you.

Fantastic tutorial! Thanks
8:05 Death Cry of a creature?
good painting!
Thanks (。◕‿◕。)
Great sketch. You forgot the shadow on the cone to the right. :)
Yeah, sometimes I just forget to colour everything. Like how I forgot the ground behind the yellow vehicle initially
What brush are you using? It looks so perfect!
+Amber Williams Nevskaya Palitra watercolour brush
Teoh Yi Chie thank you!!
I wish I could watercolor as well as you can. It just means I need to practice more! I was wondering, what type of brushes were you using? Like the brand?
It's the Nevskaya Palitra watercolour brush. th-cam.com/video/bnzbJ8ws2U0/w-d-xo.html
Teoh Yi Chie thank you!
hi teoh! can you recommend a watercolor brand that doesn't granulate? I do love granulation, but for some pieces I would prefer something more flat.
Every brand has colours that granulate and those that don't. You just have to find out the information on their website.
This is late, but perhaps try student grade paints as they use more fillers--to keep them at affordable prices--and that would remove some of the granulation the paints give.
I was wondering which watercolour sketch book you're using? It looks really nice :)
There will be a sketchbook tour video of this sketchbook coming soon. It will talk about this sketchbook.
That's great news, thank you very much for letting me know! I look forward to watching the video.
:) thanks !!!
Those pans look very large. What are those and where are they from?
That's a Gansai Tambi plastic pan

Oh, thank you, Teoh!. So, the Phthalo Blue that I have would be the Green Shade version even though it does not say it on the label.
