i’m getting my sdit on wednesday (26th may) and i’m super excited, i’m training him at home because of money and that sending him to a professional trainer would be too hard since i would like to bond with him and crowd control is one of the things i want to teach him so thank you!
Thank you...I was originally looking at the orbit as a trick, never thought about for service dog purposes. I am actually taking therapy dog Prep class with my almost 2 year old dark red golden. He has passed CGC Advanced and Urban but we are struggling with the high emotion, overexcitedness on meet and greets. This is soooo important for just our every day going places and yet the calm still eludes us. I have taken many classes, and worked with private trainers. We need to be able to walk through crowds of people and dogs...we've been working on ATTN; spins on the right and left; paw targeting; between (legs); and this video reminded me of the "get behind"...anything to help us feel less stressed and overexcited by people and dogs. He goes everywhere with me and is a lover so he wants to meet everyone; which has been limited because of his current over-the-top emotion. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thank you so much for this. I'm autistic and have CPTSD, crowds are awful for me, currently training a chocolate lab for my service dog, but we can't go to class right now because I just had a hysterectomy so I've been looking for stuff to do at home that's new and engaging for her. She loves to move but I can't right now so this is perfect for us right now and eventually we can build up to walking.
Thank you for this video. I sent it to a friend who’s voice isn’t good when she has a flare and gestures aren’t good because she uses a walker. A one word command would be great for her
She's very focused on the food even attempting to jump up for the food her eyes are targeted on her hands. This is why you want to try the training without food and then give the food at the end of training
Crowd control is actually a task that autism spectrum disorder assistance. Dogs can use when they are in big crowds for sensory support. I started to train Freja to do crowd control with the word orbit. She has done crowd control naturally, but i am trying to train her to shape and master the skill.
Nice training I like all the details you included in your video. I also am training my own service animal. Phoenix is an Australian blue heeler mixed with ??? Recently we had a traumatizing encounter with a service animal ignorant employee at a grocery store. It resulted in significant PTSD episodes over the next few weeks. The good thing that came out of it was a resurgence of our training. We developed something quite different for creating space between myself and another. I would love to start sharing our training on TH-cam videos as well but I’m not quite sure how to get started.
You can definitely train this more for fun but as a task wise, i would have to agree with K9 Blueprint, 10lbs might be a bit small, aside from just the getting stepped on part, the other thing to keep in mind is it might not be effective for crowd control since the dog is not big enough to create that distance. But like i said you can always teach it for fun because it is a great exercise for their brain and can help with future task that may have similar over lap
@@Norrischan my dog is 10lbs and is currently learning crowd control, and people do realize he’s their and backs away, so for me I’m currently good but I don’t know about other people
@@Bellbeesevenacresfarm yes I think it depends on the public you live with. In my area I don’t think it would be an issue because in general everyone loves dogs (like everyone has a dog) but are respectful of SDs (knowledgeable about them) and wouldn’t think twice about moving aside for a dog (no matter the size) in a vest (where I am specifically that is the law).
I'm planning on getting a sd prospect in the next year or two. I'm torn between a few breeds (labs, goldens, goldendoodles) but I was wondering how old she is in this video? I'm trying to get an example of the average adult size of a female golden. Thank you, this video was so helpful!
There’s this nice husky puppy at the shelter and we’re going back in a few days to get her used to me then the next few times we’re going to test her to see if she’d be a good service dog. She’s a little timid so me and my mom are going to have to see if she can get over that before we adopt her but she seems pretty good with focusing and is relatively calm. My dad isn’t too happy about getting more animals even if it’s to help me but my mom is going to get one no matter what he says. Also on an unrelated note, the volunteers in the dog kennels are so much nicer than the people in the kitty korner. Cat people scare me lol
My dad is also not happy with another animal in the house. XD hes like 3 Cats and a horse is too much we should only have a horse and a cat. Lol Then my therapist is like "we're gonna get a Dr to write your SD note" wish you luck with your dog
Thank you so much for taking the time to post this beautiful video and showing us how to train a dog for when there to much crowd. And I also subscribe to your channel... Cause I get chronic Migraines and some time with dizziness and passing out do to to much crowd. Can please do more training video.
I was very surprised to hear that you are not a professional trainer! You seem to train your dog so well I for sure thought you did this for a living! I am interested in training my border collie as my psychiatric service dog, he’s super intelligent but also extremely high energy so I’m not sure if its a good idea? Thoughts? Also what resources do you use for training? I’ve had dogs my whole life and have always had a had in their basic obedience so I’m familiar with training to that extent but as far as service dog training I’m really lost... some of the people I’ve found on TH-cam and instagram that I’ve reached out to have not responded and in my own research it seems like there are a TON of resources for service dogs for physical disabilities however psychiatric service dog training has not been easy to find! Any help would be great, thank you!
Collies ussually do not make great service dogs. But with an exprerienced owner and/or trainier they can be extremely successful. You kusy can not let them get bord
I have a border collie as my service dog and one of the ways that I control his energy is heaps of stimulation before we work. We have a bit of a deal! If I want to take him out for pa assistance, he gets an hour or two of fun in the yard. In my yard we have an agility course and heaps of toys. Some stuff to keep in mind for stimulation - agility - licki mats or kongs -hide and seek - sniff work - trick fetch (they do a trick, you throw the ball) - if you have the time AND money get him into herding. It’s a great sport for them. Not only does it get rid of pent up energy and make him happier to work. He knows that working means he gets heaps of play!!!!
If you still want some help my Instagram is @ladiesman.bear And I’m more then happy to talk and help you out a bit. It would actually be great fun for me, I love talking about doggies. :)
this could work if you fashioned yourself a loose belt (one that cannot fall past your hips, but also is not tight) and loop the belt through your leash handle. This keeps your dog on a leash, but also makes it hands free and with this set up, would give it 360 degree motion around you. I prefer to leash to my beltloop (Not with the 360 because I've not had a need for it yet. My SDiT is not ready for that yet) because it keeps my hands free to do whatever I need to do.
Hi! I really enjoyed this video as I am currently working with my dog who is a service dog in training. With what organization did you work with to certify Rhea? Sorry if I spelled the name wrong. Thank you! Soraya :)
Hello Soroya! thank you for watching and supporting the channel 💕 In the US no certification is needed so i did not work with any organization. If you reside in the USA please take a look at ADA.gov to learn your rights and do not get scammed by any online places that is stating they will certify your dog to be a service dog 💕
this is different from place to place, you can simply check with where you are taking them, she is a full service dog now, however even when she was training on this she was already able to fully task on other needed task so she was a full service dog in this video as well.
TECHNICALLY any dog can do the task. Whether or not it is effective is the true question here. I would lean into no, simply out of fear of safety for the dog. In the right crowd, it may not be noticed and will either fail at the task (meaning people do not move for it) or it will get hurt by being stepped on.
thank you for input :) commands can be any word the handler chooses works best for them as many choose to train in a completely new language too. it’s all about repetition so you can definitely train it as “around” or any other words you find more fitting to your liking
Wonderful work but please be sure to note in your videos that it’s unlawful to train your service dog tasks they don’t need to learn that do not benefit the handler. I’ve been seeing people train their dogs tasks they don’t need and it’s very upsetting. You know the ada says tasks that help mitigate a person’s disability.

On top of that it is extremely beneficial and recommended for service dogs to continue learning new things throughout their career. Please never apologize for the cat! It was amazing!
Nice breakdown of training!
definitely have to teach my pup crowd control my ptsd and paranoia in public is really bad 😂
I like the idea of a closed loop circle so sit circle around and sit
Thank you so much. I was stuck with mine only doing 1 circle.
Thanks for showing this! I might get a poodle SD soon and this is one thing I want her to know

Such a pretty dog
I want to train this task for my SDiT, but he's only 10 lbs. Can a small dog learn this task? I'm worried about him getting stepped on.
Autumn Dalton personally I would not use this with a 10 pound dog. My SD is 30 pounds and I probably wouldn’t do it with a smaller dog then mine.

Question, do you have her leash when you do this or do you have her just stick by you
Awesome, very clear video. I taught Around as just a trick but might progress it as a task. I'm not certain how this could be used on a leash though.

You can keep your SD off leash if it interferes with her tasking, said by the ADA
