I had a dog who naturally put his head on my lap or sit on my feet when I was going through a trigger I’ll never forget that it was so sweet and helpful
My dog is a rescue and I am not sure if someone has trained him before, but he is able to recognize when I am going into anxiety or panic attack. He starts licking my face and hands and puts his body weight on me. Dogs are amazing creatures
Thank you so much for this videos! My dog already lays down on me when I’m having anxiety attacks without any training but this is helping me so much to have better communication with him❤
Oh, this is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for providing this wonderful information. I'll be bringing home my puppy in two weeks and want to dive right in to training her. I've already looked into all aspects of her basic and advanced training, and this will be the perfect addition to meet my needs.
Could you do a focus on how to teach a service dog to help the handler leave a social situation? Also my social anxiety can lead to anger management issues, could my dog remind me in some way to keep calm if I rise my voice? It would mean a lot to me if you could give some advice! 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
Yes! It’s called a graceful exit. You can teach your dog to paw at you or nose bump you with a discrete cue- from there you tell the people “sorry my dog has to use the bathroom!” Then if you want to leave say “he’s not feeling well”
I personally happened to look up a dog and when I went to visit him, I waited in line for 5 hours before the place opened to see if he would be there. Idk he naturally has done this to me ever since except I need to teach him not to be so possessive over me. Every person who comes up to us he lays on me like this naturally except he growls his little puppy weak harmless growl. Ears tucked behind his head. He is my new best friend.
Hope Judd and Harlo are getting by ok miss seeing this vlog yall helped though my training of my first service dog and also cool videos to explain my conditions I share with friends and family. I share many conditions. Now I live in FL too so more in common now
THANK YOU!!! for putting this out there. I live so isolated from dog training and can't afford it anyway. I've been buying books and watching tv. I have a white English Golden Retriever that just turned 1 yr. He's huge and STRONG for me (65yrs). I'm going to get serious this year after I get him fixed. I named him Bow Tie Bo for short. I'm determined to make him into a Gentlemen!!! 🤣 he's getting there PAINFULLY (for me) SLOWLY. He's having a lot of FUN along the way himself, the goofy soul. You didn't mention the P.A.T. test. Do they still do that? Public Access Test. I use to work for disabled. If so where do I find someone who can administer the test?
@@lovingbp Hi! First, ask people who know you well what you tend to do when you start to get stressed (and leads into a panic attack). For example, fidgeting could mean you're starting to get stressed. Another option is to collect sweat samples when you have a panic attack so they can learn to sniff out cortisol! The only issue I find with this is, for me, I never remember to collect a sweat sample when I'm having a panic attack...that being said, if you don't have anything you do before a panic attack, getting a sweat sample might be better for you. Would you find getting a sweat sample do-able? (like remember to do it)
I am training my 110lb great dane and im not sure her laying down on me would work. Im autistic and i have bad sensory issues and I'm scared to cross the street also. Too much going on. I walk everywhere so i have to cross alot of streets. Your videos are sooo helpful
I too have a big service dog. Mine is a 130 lb European Doberman that assists for hearing, mobility, emotional support as well as other issues. It’s reassuring when he does pressure therapy until he falls asleep and I can’t get him to move. Working on this one. They are our life savers!!
@@rouxz1901 Ur dog is massive! I totally get the "when they don't want to move" comment. If Axl doesn't want to do something, she absolutely won't! I used to grab her by the back legs and drag her out of the way until she got too big. If she beats me to my spot in the bed before I get to it, I just shrug my shoulders and bend myself AROUND her bc she is the Rock of Gibraltar at this point . And they absolutely life-changing to have in the best ways possible! 🐾🦴♥️🐕🦺
@@TheRaspyAspie Yes, he’s a beast but thinks he’s a lap dog! I know this frustration all too well!! I’ve bought him huge, comfy temper-pedic dog beds in hopes he will use them but he destroys them or my little 25 lb dog makes claim to it. He feel’s the need to always be touching me throughout the night. Now if I can only teach him to lay vertical instead of horizontal we (meaning ME) may be able to get a full nights sleep. 😂😂
@@rouxz1901 I think we have the same dog! 😂 She has a Serta mattress dog bed but would rather sleep crossways next to me! I have a pic my friend took of Axl in my bed and me curled up in HER bed! She crowded me out so I climbed in her bed a went to sleep. I woke up to her looking down at me offended I was on HER bed! 😂
@@TheRaspyAspie Oh my!! Yup, same dog. They are such lovable goofs but I love this breed unconditionally!! Brøk is my 7th and definitely not my last. ❤️😂😂
I only apply vocal commands when my dog does a task perfectly, because I don't want him to think that an imperfect bahaviour is what is attached to the vocal command.
My dog is going to be a anxiety and autism service dog but she is a beagle so she doesn’t really care about it. She can do DPT but not for long and only ever if there are treats. I don’t think she wants to be a SD but we can not get another dog
Nope :) practice first while your dog is close by. Then slowly increase the distance. Your dog inherently has to come to you to do that behavior. Having a solid recall is important in general, though, so I would practice that simultaneously.
If it's a small dog, yeah. they absolutely can be trained to jump up onto your lap. If it's a larger dog like a lab ...it could potentially be dangerous for them( and you) to be jumping up on top of you like that while in your chair
I am struggling with teaching my service dog depressure therapy across my legs because what happens is that he'll lay down on my legs for around 2 seconds and then he'll just roll off my legs cuz he thinks I'm playing around and every time I try to reinforce him he just loses his focus
Hey! You might first practice having him lay over a rolled up towel. For many dogs, it's really weird at first and almost uncomfortable. If your dog's shoulders are tight, it can be hard. They also have to learn how to distribute their weight to make it more comfortable. A rolled up towel can help them get used to laying down on weird surfaces. Then you can really reward for those 2 seconds! You have to start somewhere and then slowly increase the time. Think about it like exercise. If a person can only jog for 5 seconds, it doesn't mean they will only be able to jog for 5 seconds forever. If they keep jogging every day for 5 seconds, they'll eventually be able to do 6, then 7, etc. A lot of times we get frustrated because our dogs only do something for a short time frame, but you have to reward those short time frames to keep increasing the duration they do the behavior for. I am assuming you're doing the laying down version of deep pressure therapy, but if you're doing a diff one it still applies. If you find yourself getting frustrated, take a break and then try again later. Short training sessions throughout the day (like 1 or 2 reps) will be better than trying to do the same thing for 30 minutes.

I’m really interested in how you would train a dog to be a social barrier and crowd control tasks!
Those would be, “ watch my back” “block” ( front or back) and “ orbit”! We’re they go around you in a circle! :)
I just love how you break down and explain working with the dog.
Thank you!

My dogo does chin rest when he's cuddling and I found it super helpful so I'm going to try and teach him to do it
Yes! Use a cue transfer- figure out what your doing when you’re anxious and teach him that that cue means to do the chin rest

My dog does all of these things on his own. I didn't teach him. He's very intuned to my feelings. I do practice these techniques with him. 😊

What if my dog leaves my lap as soon as I give treat? I don't even have time to give him one more, he is off.
Yes you’ll have to slowly increase duration! Do you have a release word?
