    I liked your comment about how gardening is about hope, and looking to the future. It's so true - that, combined with the physical exercise and fresh air is so good for the soul. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks so much for replying. Re flatmates: I think the wedding references and pix could be a clue. I've become a UK Allotment TH-camrs addict, and have been bingeing on your channel. I particularly liked the seed viability testing. And I absolutely love the term "sitooterie". I'm spreading it throughout my friends and relations. I've learnt to appreciate so many regional accents and words, "firtling"and "mithering" being among my faves. Have a groovy one, Kerry.

    I was so jealous while watching your video. You were wearing a hoodie, and today we have 39.44 C outside, and as the days pass, it’ll only get worse. Sunscreen cloth from Amazon is in the mail (no local places had the kind with grommets), so I had to temporarily hang two bed sheets on the perimeter of the gazebo to keep the tomato and cucumber plants from being baked by the sun.
    Love the front shot of the house, by the way, and the garden area out front.

    With regards to the pallet vertical garden, we found that lining the wee boxes with water retaining gel strips over the weed suppressant fabric that we stapled into them, and then added the compost and that seemed to slow down the egress of the water. Those plants on the top tiers are going to be getting so much sun and they're thirsty babies! The garden looks great, and now that we can visit again I hope we can come see you both soon! :)

    Nice wee update. It's been a strange old season, I lost quite a few perenials to the deep frosts in winter, and even more to the secondary later -5 frosts, that caught plants out that had already sprung into life. I even lost a Blackberry bush.
    Regarding the Strawberries in small planters, the amount of times I see dried out dead strawberry plants in hanging baskets, or wee planters. They should come with a dislaimer saying, you'll need to water these all time time :D

    The same thing has happened to all my hydrangeas- they spent all last year recovering from frost and again this year despite them being paniculata varieties. I live in North Yorkshire. I’m growing some in pots now and I’m going to move them into the greenhouse in spring when they are growing away to protect from frost next year.

    Evening Eli, do you think you could put the clematis on the shed wall where the fox gloves where last year? Skimmia are male and female I think I have one with berries and one without they are under a blue spruce and are huge we have to actually prune them. The hydrangea is a very forgiving plant and it should come back hopefully and so easy to propagate from cuttings. I plant chives near my apple tree it apparently is a great companion . Tomatoes look fantastic peppers look great I just call them peppers because we don’t eat chillies. My courgette plants are outside but it’s been quite warm here. As always thank you for sharing ✌️🇨🇦🐝 safe ladies

    My beautiful hydrangea has bearly grown this year. It is grown just above the soil and looking pathetic. My husband says that the way it is. I swore buckets; cried and was tempted to go to GP as I totally flipped over my pathetic attempts at gardening. Lost all my seeds etc etc. Husband has amazing veggie garden last year. First year gardening. Second year and only managed raddish a few broad beans and my sweet peas all died. So I think you are so inspiring and feel your pain 💐

    Just started watching gardening videos for the first time this year and found your vlogs and am absolutely loving them. You are so entertaining and so informative, I've learnt so much from you, so thank you so much. I also found your starter sourdough video/making sourdough bread and have dutifully followed your instructions .... my first attempt didn't look as wonderful as yours and it was a bit too over done and dense 😕 plus my ovens a bit rubbish and I didn't have your magic Dutch oven (which I have now purchased on line 😉) but I'm hoping, with practise, I will improve my technique and get better results. So thank you so much for that too. Looking forward to more great vlogs. Hope you're having a lovely spring bank holiday ❤
    By the way, I've called my starter 'Eli' I hope you don't mind ☺️

    Another enjoyable watch Just planted my tomatoes in my greenhouse yesterday so very jealous of your monster plants. Just curious would your plants finish earlier as they started earlier? Or will you get a much longer season? As I love tropical plants I’m seriously considering putting electricity in my greenhouse which would mean a possible earlier start for other plants too assuming I don’t fill it with overwintering tropicals 😁

    • @eliandkate
      @eliandkate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The earlier start should mean I get a longer season. I'm using the greenhouse to change my season, it doesn't change how the plants grow. In a warmer climate tomato plants would keep going, but they don't survive our cold so hence our season for growing them can only start when it's warm enough and finishes when it's too cold for them

  • @owonpattaya81

    Your garden looks great having the same problem with the pineberry I think it may be more to with the strain rather than the weather, they always get poor reviews on every website that sells them
    . I"m also growing strawberry in small planters what type of fertilizer do you what when there not flowering and what frequency do you feed them?

    • @eliandkate
      @eliandkate  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use fish blood and bone as my standard fertiliser. I wouldn't normally feed them as they would normally be in a bed and the soil have everything they need. But for this year I'll have to add some in a few weeks once they've used up what's available in the soil.

    2021 so far , frost , warm , frost , cold, warm now aphids :( this march has been coldest most frosty in about 70 years, lost a few plants this year.
    3 apricot trees, fig trees, dont try to plant anything really exotic in scotland haha.
    probably best plant that did well this year was honey berry, its immune to frost it did nothing to the flowers in full bloom, now its growing like a weed with lots of fruit on it.

    I noticed on one of your videos that you have some attachment for using water pipe, so as to make hoop covers for your raised beds. Would it be possible for you to let me know where you got them from. I once got hold of a set of four corners, but that was years ago, and can I heck remember where they came from. I would be eternally grateful if you have any information on them. Kindest regards Geoff Maddison

    Hi Eli and Kate, I have just come across your channel via Niall Gardens and your comparison of hot composters. This may sound/be a bit weird, but it's nice for me to spend time with some gay women again. I lived in a gay household in Sydney, Australia in the late '80s, and it was a great consciousness-raising experience. Anyway, I love your channel, though, I'm gardening in Tasmania, Australia, so you have to deal with such cold temperatures, which we don't so much. I'm in my early sixties, so have to do a lot of hands-and-knees gardening. Just be careful and don't overdo it - you'll pay for it when you get old! Cheers, Kerry.

      Oh don't worry... We both went mad when we got this house and we are now suffering greatly so gardening has very much been scaled down to suit. Arthritis, back issues, knee and hip issues... The works 😀
