Great vid! Make sure you have the traps out when it warms up a little because they’ll be moving. For DPs I’ve always had good success with a cat food & mini marshmallow mixture. I also spear a larger marshmallow on the trigger of the DP so the only way it can get it is by setting the trap off and I also set another on top of the opening. Bacon grease or peanut butter on both marshmallows works great. A good point I’ve heard with setting DP traps is don’t over bait the trap; the longer the raccoon is there (and isn’t caught yet) the higher the chance he’ll get scared off by another animal, vehicle, etc. With trapping always make sure you are setting on sign (tracks, trails, scat). Place marsh mellows around the teap sight for visual attractant. Place a couple behind the pan of the live trap. Use a sweet smelling attractant like a berry jelly......do not use fishy bair unless you know how to handle skunks.

I see this as unlikely. Hell I rarely hear about racoons eating chickens. Possums generally avoid conflict period, (as a matter of fact their defense mechanism isn't even to fight its to fake being dead as shown here) so I doubt they seek chickens to kill and eat. and raccoon only do so when absolutely desperate, which is unlikely in flairs area due to the ponds, streams, and swamps/marshes. Now coyotes... Coyotes are a different story entirely, same with bobcats.
Flair, why not run solar panels on top of metal grain bin and hook to some heat lamps/heaters inside said grain bin. Pretty inexpensive. Put the water inside and it won’t freeze over. Water and the hay inside wasnt be too messy and keep food outside
I personally use sardines and they work great I put the sardine juice on a paper towel and roll it up in a ball so it looks like a egg and it works for winter in sd
hey flair, if your wanting to go trap coyote get some foot holds. when you do get some foot hold pick a nice spot and dig a trap bet about one inch down that the trap can fit in. get pete moss/dirt and cover it. grab a steak and try and make a mouse hole then put some animal meat in it. boom i just wrote that in 10mins
Texan here i just use frozen tilapia in a live trap with peanut butter across the trigger plate. the tilapia thaws out and the peanut butter raccoons cant resist.
Take the trap near some water and place it near it and take the juice from the canned tuna and pore some of it near the trap and in the water and the smell will travel down stream and the racoons will follow the strong smell from the tuna to the trap where the food is and go right in for the canned tuna
Should pick up a few of the Hush Bubbles bait bucket aerators and keep them running in the water for the animals. They'll create movement which will help keep the water from freezing completely.
I’ve trapped with a dog prod I found that if you don’t fill it all the up with bait it works better so they have to fully put their foot in the trap to get the bait
Tip for the goat water: take a small jug / bottle (bigger around than their mouths) fill it with salt water because salt water does not freez, put it in their water and they will be able to push it down and get to the unfrozen water under the ice by moving the jug. Also leave some air in the jug so that it will float! Hopefully you see this and it helps!
