High margins leaves one lazy. It's just too good and you get used to it. Then a competitor comes and your nice high margin business is gone, and you can't do anything about it. You don't know how to run it with smaller margins. The only way to survive in the long run is to be efficient, lean, and that includes living with small margins. Then no competitor can ever come after you.
