It may seem tricky, but it makes sense in some way. "Death game" implies you can cheat your way out of it like you can cheat death and cheat in your average game. "Deadliest death game" could mean the chances of that working are very low.
In that last game, if his goal was to lose, he can just play that last round badly instead of trying to tie and then have to sleight of hands the cards.
