Why are these death game movies/shows so popular? I really don't like the concept. Watching this recap, they really tried to make him seem really smart by over-complicating everything and having him thinking in circles. There's like almost no clues or reasoning for /why/ he comes up with the right answer, he just pulls it out of his butt. There's no clues or reasonings for why he comes up with the right answer because you're watching a recap that cuts all of that out, pretty much 3/4th of everything is removed and he simply gets to the point. I'd highly recommend just reading the manga it's based on, it's one of my all time faves.
The problem of the show that it is too complicated. The hook of a successful show is to include the audience make them possible to solve the riddles of their own. That’s what make squid game successful. Everyone could possibly win a game from that show.
The purpose of the competition was to determine the successor of a Trillioner. This means that it is necessary for the winner to have both intelligence and luck. That is why the games being complicated is understandable.
A few plotholes I've noticed. 1. people discussing answers in the first game, even though they couldn't. 2. The objective was to get 4 rings to become the king. One person tried to steal a ring from another, but stealing was never mentioned or explored again. Literally 100+ people running around, and no one resorted to stealing just 4 rings. Overall I think the show was 5/10. The acting was pretty bad, and the way characters behaved were so...anime. The situations were pretty ridiculous, but the games were decently thought out. Even though most of the solutions were always abstract, the MC and this rival always managed to solve it with the smallest of hints.
