This feature-length documentary captures the journey of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ruamata's rise to the upper echelons of hockey in Aotearoa as they become the first Māori immersion school in a century to compete in the prestigious Rankin Cup.
It's the classic tale of David vs. Goliath.

❤ OMFGGG i expected to skip this at the start, when i seen the title, Maori..... Hockey.... ummmm, yeah nahhhh not sumthin id ever put together.
BUT.... for the past HOUR I've been absolutely STUCK to the TV watching this, most AWESOME story of the rise of a Hockey team, from a small Kura Kaupapa Maori, not only qualify to the top tier national competition, but take it to some of the biggest and most dominant schools in the game. The coach, Tenga.... much much respect to you and nga tama katoa o tenei tima, no Ruamata.... I'm in awe of the talent, the support and dedication yall showed, and what a bright future the sport has in your kura 🙏

Well done boys! Awesome coach aswel. I just felt one of your games I watched the ref was bias. The game that meant alot but lost to the reds calls with yellow cards.

This story is less about hockey and more about the indomitable maori spirit against the odds..
There's a reason the British always went into battle needing to outnumber the Maori four to one despite their overwhelming firepower advantage.
The haka was no idle threat
Nga mihi ki a koutou mo te pupuri, me te tu rangatiratanga mo to tatou reo Maori. Tena ano koutou nga maatua me nga mahita Maori mo te ako i nga mokopuna kia tu whakapakari ai te tinana me te hinengaro mo tenei takaro.
It’s good seeing them not just limiting themselves to rugby.
But the haka isn’t necessary though.
Comes across as disrespectful and bad sportsmanship.
Keep it up though boys.
Don't be racist. Haka is not disrespectful it is the exact opposite.

@@unclejoe7958This is the ignorance coach Tenga and others allude to. There is a video on TH-cam showing New Zealand representative teams from these sports doing a haka.

That's right. Haka on iceskates and wheelchairs. It's a 130 year old rugby tradition and other sports are late adopters. But you will see every Kiwi of all ethnicities giving their all during the haka. Some of these teams are majority European too. It means a lot to Kiwi sportsmen. It's who we are. I don't know who you are.
@@JaemanEdwards yea , Maori have pushed it to be included into many places and if they’re denied that chance to grandstand they then cry racism. 😂
It’s intended to intimidate.
