KTM Water Pump Shaft Seal Replacement

  • Back in the KTM workshop that used to be our garage for some more work on the 2016 350 EXC. This time we're replacing a leaking water pump shaft seal. A very easy job but don't forget some of these important tips. IMPORTANT: torque value for impeller dome nut is 6Nm. DO NOT over tighten and be sure to use thread locker.

    Thanks mate, same issue with weeping. The previous owner has put the bloody seal in the wrong way round! Thanks for the clear video.

      @@MVDBR did you had coolant in your engine oil? Is that why you changed it?

      @@MVDBR can coolant in the oil be the other seal that is faulty? The one on the oil side of the pump?

    Il y a un 2ème joint Spi derrière le 1er qui lui se trouve derrière l’hélice de la pompe à eau, donc il faut tomber le carter d'embrayage et remplacer les 2joints Spis et le roulement pour faire un travail propre sur un 350 exc-f.

      yeh seats are cheap , nd aftermarket fuel pumps cheap as chips , :)

    Did you replace the water pump gasket as well?

      Can't remember for sure this was like 3 years ago but I would say probably just reused the old one 👍

    Hi, what’s the symptoms of a failing water pump seal ?

      Coolant coming out of the weep hole near the water pump, usually 👍

    Is there a possibility that the coolant also enters the crankshaft housing if the seal is leaking?

      Not sure mate, maybe someone else can answer that. I'm no mechanic 😣

      Unlikely but possible.
      There is an oil seal on the crankcase side. There is a small space between the seals, the coolant will leak thru the weep hole.

    What year bike is this? I have a 02 520 exc. is this the same model in the video?
