i like the fact that he does not even look at his fingers or guitar when he is playing...just looking forward like it is nothing. i find that amazing when i am trying to shred and stuff i Always look at my fingers and their position...this man is truly a guitar genius
Love his phrasing and over all feel - totally sick feel that always makes me want to pick up my guitar and shred. Met himi twice and just an awesome guy to chat with.
This guy is truly one of the best. Not just a guitarplayer, but as a being, articles writer, jazz musician, lifestyle. ppl should follow his tweets. Genuine good guy. Did I even mention fucking good guitarist
For the Alex fans out there, he uses 0.13 gauge which is part of the reason his tone is soo bloody awesome. Just remarkable to play those licks on such a heavy gauge......fingers of steel.
I really liked how he got into the song. I mean, Dragon Attack is has a very distinctive shape. He really "carved" it to obtain something really different that still has the same shape. Love it!
"So how bout I play this?" [plays super amazing awesome lick] "That was awesome but I think it should be awesomer." "oh, ok." [plays even awesomer lick]. Repeat.
Now how do I go about getting a studio experience like this? Someone to help you craft your tone based on your exact specifications, and review every take along with you to make sure the song is gold all the way through?
"The only thing that was wrong with it was that one note..." (Redoes entire section) Me: 80 wow amazing. Alex's consistency with his bends and shreds are phenomenal.
hehehe..when I first started to get somewhat serious about my playing [like 20 years ago] I Remember thinking that Alex was pretty much the best fucking player I had ever heard,..you know it is funny man, here it is 20 years later..and Alex Still is the Best fucking Guitarist I Have ever heard, and watching him play is even more amazing..he inspires you to try and reach new heights in your own playing..OR,smash all your axes into fucking dust & then cry like a little girl...hahaha;)
He could use 8's and he'd sound the same to be honest... He used light gauges years ago but went consistently heavier because he was playing the big ass jazz guitars so much and couldn't switch back to the thin neck light gauge stuff. Truth is he could record on 8's or 13's and nobody would know the difference.

I just stumbled across Alex Skolnick today on youtube; he actually seems like a very humble guy.
The best 10 minutes I've spent on youtube in a long time.
Awesome.
"Are you gonna stop anywhere?" "

Wow, I had never seen his legacy tattoo !
There are few players that truly inspire me to shred on a Les Paul-style guitar, but Alex is on that short list.

SO TRUE
10 guitar players that don't have a hope in hell of ever achieving this skill level have watched this video.
I found myself grinning just like the producer when things got rolling.
I agree. Skolnick is from another planet...
Alex has been through a Jazz career before he re-joined Testament.
I guess that explains the light years.
Great delay sound!anybody knows which pedal he's using?
Awesome! But where's Andy Sneap?
Killer Guitarist !
Now how do I go about getting a studio experience like this? Someone to help you craft your tone based on your exact specifications, and review every take along with you to make sure the song is gold all the way through?

Lightyears ahead of kirk hammet
The most virtuous..Far...Yeah..
why should the rest of the band be there, you do realise throughout this entire video he is tracking solos?
To have the opportunity to feel like I am in the studio with Alex, it should be banned because he is a legend and am Mortal.
camera needed stabilization, cool video though
fritação da porra
that was absolutely amazing Alex! I really enjoyed meeting you at Yael's dinner last year- if you get a chance, please check out my vids.
Alex Skolnick thee most unrated guitarist in metal.
he was light years ahead of Kirk when he was 20
You do realize this recording method has been around before Pro Tools became popular right?
Ass kicking 👍
