$66.85 Auction Modern Makeover | Flipping a Forgotten Dresser

- This week on Ivy Lane Home, I’m transforming a solid little dresser that NO ONE else bid on at auction-so I snagged it for just $66.85! With no maker’s mark to guide me, I saw it as the perfect chance to get creative.
First, I ditched the outdated traditional base and built a sleek, modern angled base (thanks to @flippedbyabby’s tutorial!). Then, I stripped and re-stained the top for a fresh, natural look, gave the body a crisp new coat of paint, and updated the hardware for a clean, minimalist feel. The result? A once-overlooked dresser turned into a modern, on-trend statement piece!

Liked what u did. I would not have thought of that
The whole personality was changed. You made the right decision to bring it home and give it life. It does looks very pretty. I like it! Great!!
I'm so glad you liked it!
This turned out lovely! For my personal taste, I think I would have extended the base to the edges of the dresser but that’s just a preference. It looks great the way you did it and will probably sell really quickly. ❤
Thanks! Yeah, I think I’m still gonna tweak it. I don’t want the angled legs going beyond the frame but maybe just slightly in. 🤔
So excellent…I really love it…so very much appeals to me…AND I have a very similar dresser recently purchased via Marketplace, also w no maker’s mark. Thank you for this inspiration. It sure makes me want to get moving!!!❤
Love your work and letting us see your thought process as you transform a piece of furniture. This was a great a great transformation!
Thanks so much, Mary! I enjoy sharing the process 😊🙌🏼
Exactly the type of furniture that should be painted. Beautiful job!
I love your work to me. It doesn’t matter if it has a makers mark if the peice is. Beautiful it really doesn’t matter to me and I love your work.
Love this flip. Bright modern doesn’t feel as heavy. Great Job.
Thank you! I agree 😊🙌🏼
Love how you aren’t afraid to challenge yourself and try new things. So inspiring to see you build that base, such a baddie!
Girl we are all just winging it! 😂 You did good! I love that hardware. What a transformation! 🦋
It's very modern looking now. Colors are great, neat how U toned the wood to temper the red. I like the base, Danish? Or Mid-century vibes methinks. Lovely job. Be blessed all
My goodness what an amazing flip! Totally different piece of furniture! Well done you!
Thanks so much, Lesley! 😊🙌🏼
Hello Lisa. I think you did an amazing job on this dresser! It looks really sharp!!🥰🥰🥰
That is a beautiful piece and completely transformed. I really like the base and it brought a different modern look. I have the same exact dresser and might be trying this myself. Thank you
Thanks so much! 😊🙌🏼
Good job on the makeover. I like the new base and the new hardware.
This piece turned out absolutely beautiful!❤ I love the changes.❤ ☺🙏
Excellent work. The new knobs change the personality of the chest of drawers. Looks really good 👏
Yes, they really do! Thanks! 😊
Low ROI items like these are perfect candidates for trying something new and I am so glad you chose to do that! Most folks who didn't want to practice would just cut off the dated swoops on the base. I hope you or someone finds a use for the old base wood. I find bondo quite expensive here so I love seeing dowels used. I love bats but not "batwing" hardware lol too many crevices for dirt to get trapped in.
The results are fun.
I really like the new look! The hardware was a big improvement!
I loved your project! What a wonderful transformation Lisa! I’m so impressed with your woodworking skills. Start talking about angles and measurements and right and left, and my brain shuts down and my eyes glaze over. You totally rocked this and the result is fantastic! Again, thanks for a great tutorial ( but I’m doubting my possibility of achieving mitre/angle cuts and also fining the center for new hardware holes). 😅
You did a great job! Love how you transformed it.👏
I love this piece, it is beautiful and the hardware is very pretty! You really do a great job! 🎉🎉
Thank you so much, Marilyn! 🤩🙌🏼
Awesome transformation! The top us gorgeous! The color of the body and the handles are so beautiful! The base is elegant but needed to be larger, the end of the front legs should be right under the sides.... it looks oddly small. If you picture in your mind my suggestion I think you will agree and change the middle parts with longer ones. Nevertheless, great transformation
Yes, I was thinking that too. I don’t want the legs to go beyond the frame, but I too think they need to go out a little more. Thanks Sophia!
Wow! you would never know it is the same dresser. I like the change. This is what I asked for in your survey. I hope it sells quickly.
Thank you! 😊🙌🏼
It looks great but I think the base needs another coat of stain to even it out and darken it just a bit more. I really enjoy your makeovers.
I think so too! I usually make tweaks after I see the pics and videos. 😬😂
Bravo! You did a great job on the base! The top turned out beautifully! The paint color was gorgeous! You brought a whole new life to this piece!
Nicely done! Love the base. Thanks
Fantastic transformation ❤
Thank you! 😊🙌🏼
Thank you for taking us on this educational journey! Lots of valuable info! Beautiful outcome 👍❤️
My pleasure! Thanks for watching 😊🙌🏼
I love the base! Great up-cycle!
Thanks Shari! 🙌🏼😊
I ❤ it! Gorgeous. 😊
Came out really nice!
Thanks so much! 😊🙌🏼
Looks fantastic!
Thanks so much! 😊🙌🏼
The transformation is so pretty. What a difference.
Thanks Debbie! 🤩🙌🏼
Finally a channel I can learn along with! I love your work btw! Have a blessed day! ☺️☺️☺️
Ha, yes! This is definitely a ‘learn with me channel” 😬😊🙌🏼
So enjoy your videos! you also got a great personality!
Agree. Like the new look. The brown wash made it👍
I think so too! 😊🙌🏼
I love it, especially the top. MThe onlyu thing I would change is the too numerous knobs. I would use those grat long handles on each drawer.
Thanks! I’m sure that would look good too!
Looks great! You’ll likely get addicted to redoing bases since it makes such a major difference in these kind of pieces.
Probably! Now i just need a router and band saw 😅
Love it!❤❤❤
Awesome job
Thank you so much! 😊🙌🏼
Great job!
Thanks! 😊
LOVELY!
Looks like part of an old boyfriend's "cherry" bedroom set. It WAS solid wood...even cherry...but that man was so set on maintaining Anything "traditional," he wore us all out ages ago.
Love it
Thanks Amber! 😊🙌🏼
It looks great, but i think the base could have been a couple inches longer on each side.
I think so too. I’ll probably tweak it before I list it for sale 😬
Kreg screws are self tapping, you don’t have to drill pilot hole. Also, please please get a miter saw table… you were making me very very nervous!
Well, they weren’t self tapping thus the pilot holes 🤷♀️ A workbench is on my list of diys this year!
I like what you did to modernize this piece and give it a second life.

🅰️➕➕➕➕➕ Beautiful. Someone will enjoy it. It's been renovated with care, thoughtfulness and creativity. 🅰️ 🆗
Thank you so much! It was a fun project 😊🙌🏼
It’s a nice dresser. Just needs a little work
😊🙌🏼
Nice🤍🤍🤍🎉🎉🎉
Lisa:
Nadie quería esta cómoda por menos de 70$ ?
Has hecho muchos cambio, herrajes, patas o base y color.
Has usado muchas herramientas hoy, y creo que me has enseñado muchas cosas.
Cada vez creo que eres mejor reformadora de muebles y te acercas a una restauración respetuosa.
I think I’ll change the base a bit before I list it for sale. I think the apron needs to be longer. I’m not 100% happy with the wood tone either. We’ll see 🤔
Amazing job
Thanks! ☺️
Love it
