Sergio's style is very acting-based; it reminds me so much of the traditional Disney 2D animation of the past - not as much the princesses or little birds but the ones that always had some funny movement or could make you laugh with just a look.
The animators were just having so much fun creating, and he does too. That's why I love his style; it has that tradition and builds on it with a lot of dynamic movement and great physical comedy.

What Sergio says is completely true though - I remember the first time I saw the character Jesper from Klaus, I immediately thought 'That's Doctor Doppler' and sure enough, Sergio was involved in the film. He has a style that's instantly recognizable, and not just with how characters look but with how they move too.
