  • NOT a Blown Head Gasket! Thought I had a failing water pump but turns out to only be a small leak at the heater core hose.. Lot better than a $350 dollar mechanic bill for a water pump replacement!

    I put a brand new pump in only to have the pumps bore at the heater tube inlet not want to seal and leak just like that I even used the $15 Mopar o ring then tried black rtv after cleaning and let it cure for 24 hrs . Replaced the inlet tube which required removing the intake manifold to get the tube off only to still leak because it's the Chinese machine work. I'm going to try some high temp red rtv next I don't feel like pulling the pump it's a pita to drain the system without making a mess . I'm not sold on putting stuff like aluma seal into my motor since it might clog things I don't want it to .

    I tried Alumaseal on a 05 honda civic because its leaking from the water pump compartment. At first it was an unsuccessful fix, leak continued and i'm left with a leaking cooling system. $300-350 is way too much money for a water pump replacement. And DIY fix is crazy complicated without access to a shop. But have been using vehicle for local short trips and keeping up with coolant reservoir that needs to be filled practically everyday. Today after 200-250 miles i check coolant reservoir and it's at full level and drove car all day, no leaks. Amazing. Gonna monitor to see continued Alumaseal leak repair. Will post any changes.

    Just put in my water pump back in December and here It is June. It started to whine along with metal on metal scraping noises as well as a leak all down the front on the harmonic balancer around the bottom of the engine. Green coolant began to pour on the carport, i guess out thw seep hole. I am having to put in another one on Friday. I oiled the inside of the water pump with penetrating oil for the berrings before I installed it and by closer observation with the belt off the pump spins like normal but this seems to be a seal issue obviously caused by the Blue Devil gasket sealant. White oxide residue all around the bottom of engine. What started all this, was my head gasket leaking coolant in a combustion chamber throwing misfire codes and cause erratic idling and driving so I had tried the Bars Leak and it didn't work so i got the Blue Devil head gasket leak selant and it worked and is sealed, runs without misfires, no codes in which i was getting on a consistent basis. It has been well documented that BV will cause water pumps to go out, along with other mechanical components. Well, Let's try it again and see what happens with the new one.

    $350 to replace a coolant pump is nothing compared to what it would cost to fix a HEAD GASKET LEAK. That gunk build up on your radiator cap could mean you have a HEAD GASKET LEAK which would also cause low coolant levels as well as engine misfires.

    If it is leaking at the pipe first your lucky, second replacing the pipe is cheap ($15.00) and realitivly easy. It is never a good idea to pour these substances into the cooling system. Bite the bullet and buy antifreeze !! Water has a lower boiling point. Coolant will also prevent rust, rust is causing your leaks. Using just water will destroy the engine! Also the gunk at the beginning was oil in the cooling system...BIG TROUBLE$$$$$$$$$

    This is a temporary fix at best. As long as this is a commuter car and not something you will really Drive long distance it will be okay. Usually when a water pump starts to leak it's because it's failing. Oftentimes through the weep hole. There are lots of aftermarket water pumps that are inexpensive with lifetime warranties. If the car has been good to you be good to it and invest a little bit of extra money. If you drive a car until complete water pump failure you may be doing irreparable damage to the engine

  • @2Jeezuzisreal
    @2Jeezuzisreal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Sometimes 2 cans needed. I've never had a problem using a "Alumaseal" on water pump full size engines (except for Cadillac)
    if your heater core clogs try reversing the hoses on firewall.
    Old clogged up systems may not work so you will have to start with a chemical flush.
    Also if you loosen the radiator cap it will not pressureize and allows the particles to stick in the pump seal...then after 100s of miles tighten it up.
    And as for Subaru(should be splet S U C K S) the 2.5 box engine is a factory blunder that they supposedly fixed in 2003. As are several other Subarus on newer models.
    Ours continued to over heat so i drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the thermostat.
    We only buy full size chevy now.(since ford ruined 100million engines).

  • @omw9965
    @omw9965 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It was not a mystery leak, in the beginning there was light gluish like material around the inner antifreeze cap, and the leak itself from the waterpump area hose/tube. Also heater core clogged are major signs that in past someone put engine gasket sealant via the antifreeze tank to either stop oil leaks or other leaks in engine. . . . thus messing heater up, substance around antifreeze cap, and leak on waterpump hose. Leak is not bc of sealant its bc of inner part flows of antifreeze clogged at waterpump. When heats up it flows no problem but when cools down it hardens seal so it pours back out by hose since it has no where else to go.

    350 is cheap. I’d take that in a heart beat. I was quoted over 1k. Over priced $500 water pump and 3 hrs of labor at 500.

  • @kittyfanatic1980
    @kittyfanatic1980 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dodge water pumps dont cost nearly that much. If it was the tube as in your case a new tube would set you back a whopping 10 bucks if that. Those pumps are a cinch to replace but instead of jerry rigging and causing more issues down the road should nust replace the darn thing. Do the labor yourself.

    On my 2000 chevy v8 5.3 it was major leaking suddenly. I removed the old pump it looked very new and it spun nicely. It had 2 aluminum gaskets i believe one blew out.
    The Alumaseal did not seal it and Normally i have 99% good results.(poor mans fix)
    So i got a new pump. I used 2 C clamps on pulley wheel and pipe wrench. Rapp the wrench hard.
    My old pump spins smoothly and no bearing noise.

      That is awesome news. I have a 05 honda civic. A water pump replacement is ridiculous. You basically have to take the engine apart, alternator, power steering pump, ignition coils and assembly, motor mounts, have a special keys to take pully out and so forth, yes, ridiculous. I ordered a pump but a little skeptical on the the job and not to mention the timing cover and belt needs to be removed. I probably won't stay too long with this car so i'll improvise. I will try that stop leak powder. Thanks dude.
