somehow youtube recommend me this today, felt all nostalgic....this is one of the initial videos i saw while watching production tutorials...at that time too it was 3 years old...🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
hey mutrix, it would be really sick if you could release the als file for one of your songs. you are one of the only people on youtube that gives out tutorials where the end result doesnt sound cheesy or just plain stupid. i've been trying to produce dubstep now for about a year, but i just cant get up off the ground. to be able to rip apart a project file.. and see what every single thing does and how it was made, would be a massive help to thousands of people like me. thanks for the tutorials.
You can use everything here with any DAW. You should be able to find Wow/Sausage for Fruity Loops. They both come in VST and AU. Not sure how to replicate the Wow filter, but you could use some kind of saturator or something instead of Sausage :)
The Sausage Fattener is essentially a very boiled down version of an effects chain Dada Life used to use to get their real fat sound, this effects chain consisted of a multiband compressor, a bit of distortion, gain, an EQ, a limiter, and probably a few other things.. They pretty much teamed up with a company that compressed all of these effects into 2 (technically 3) knobs, and with a new interface. Oh yeah, and also, *Hertz.
Sausage Fattener and similiar plug-ins introduction distortion/saturation to a signal. That distortion increases harmonic content through harmonic distortion. I don't have the space to tell you how it works, but just playback a 100Hz sine-wave and then add some distortion and saturation to it. You no longer have a simple sine-wave but something much richer. (with SF adjust color to hear this). Now adjust the amount and variables to the distortion. You'll get the point.
@hauntedzebra Use massive as a VST, the standalone application doesn't connect to Ableton. The VST (a .dll file) should be somewhere in the native instruments folder (program files) unless the installer asked you to put it somewhere custom. Put that in Abletons custom VST folder which you can set in (Options > Preferences > File Folder) then click the third icon on the top left (Below TAP) that looks like a plug. Massive should be there, drag it on a MIDI channel and you're done.
it's great! i find it's helpful to fun the mic sound into live and set recording to "in". This way you can equalize the levels between your mic and the live set. you can level it out in screen flow but it's nice to have the eq's and stuff all right there. Anyway, great job!
How long have you been using Ableton and how long have you been making your own music? How did you learn and what is the best way to learn in your opinion? Your really good and i wish i could sound like you, but this is not something you get good at in just a year or 2, at least off of you tube it isn't. Thanks your answers will help me a great deal!
@MutrixOfficial Its just a tutorial on a growl, Its coool. Can you do a tutorial on structuring your bassline? Like what synths you put 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc... what synths sound good together. Thanks dude!
It's a long process and it varies from person to person but one way is to sacrifice 7 male goats upon a hill top as an offering to Baal. If he accepts your sacrifice the install disk is Fedexed within 2-3 days to your house. The easier way involves googling "Ableton" and clicking on the first result that comes up. Good luck!
awesome tut man!it would be great if yu cud do a tutorial as well for the sound straight after the drop siund, that dmonic screaming woble!;P keep it up great work!
Hey man great video but i was wondering if you could maybe make a video on how to actually use the sounds from massive. There are tons of vids on how to make the sounds and i can do that but there arent any i could find on actually how to fit them into a song and it sound cool. If you know of a video that could help me please let me know! :)
hey man you are great! I'm wondering what do you put in the background of a drop? cause I'll have all those cool patches going but there are problems filling up the spaces in between the sounds! THANKS!
Hey man, thank you for this video and the responding- I was wondering what is the sound you are using at 00:25-26.. that high pitch sound that is very common in dubstep.. thank u!
@ZTasOfficial i'm talking about the way he create in massive is basically the same, is not really difficult to change from eq to wow, i did it myself, changed few things... and this is its looks like.. is not really complex to do it
@Kill0Watt i worded this question completely wrong haha. I was looking to learn how to make different rhythms and morphing sounds with massive-IN ableton. ive found that using the performer is a good way, also modulating the rate after connecting the LFO to the cutoff. Any other suggestions?
Mutrix please please please, you could section out into parts how to gradually build up to make a track such as this, showing each step in detail, it would help so many people, obviously it'll take time and you may not have the time to do it but it will help lots of people
hey man . i have a question how do you use sausage fattener in conjunction with your mixing ? do you do your eq and compression then slam the sausage fattener on???? or ????
Could you please tell me how you get your acapella's, ive been looking around for ages for acapellas of songs and the only ones I can find are for songs I dont want to remix :(
@ImbowProductions there's no difference using massive or sampling the same sound, at the end is the same thing, and you can see it in Twitch's tutorial, what i'm saying is Mutrix basically used the same technique in Massive, it seems like he just changed the waves (and this is what i did when i saw twitch's tutorial) after that he just used WOW, that's it nothing new here, he maybe did by his own but nothing really different from twitch's one.
Yo dude, I see that you are pretty good at replying, just wondering if this tut applies to FL studio also? I have Massive, and got the sound, but I can't get the Wow filter or Sausage filter for FL Studio, any ideas on how to get that extra effect without them? Also, a big HUAAA for this vid man, it's a "massive" help :)
Im more interested in the basic wave shapes your going for, digi3 deepthroat and wicked dont tell me much =/ great tutorial otherwise, thanks for the zoom, first video i saw of yours but it was helpful. Will be checking for your remix on soundcloud n.n
Dude can you make a tutorial for the lead melody in will.i.am's this is love, kinda like a gliding synth or whatever they call it? if you can't make a tutorial can you send me some link on how to do this since i don't know what to search for? THANKS!
your initial massive settings are different than mine. i am lacking some serious sub and generall low end on the sound. its the same exact thing, just lacking low end...
I'm just making a light-hearted answer because it isn't important which DAW you use, just find one you like. But then again, he probably was just talking about the plug in, which as you said, is mentioned at the top. SILLY MEGAJELTO I know it's Propeller Head: Reason, Image Line FL Studio, Ableton Live...

nice work, great to hear that skism used this sound, he's like my favourite dubstep producer, apart from maybe you or twitch
"Sorry I have a large screen"
'Murica
One of the most useful videos I've seen on massive ever and I've seen SO MANY that simply fail.
holy shit man you worked with james labrie ! im a huge DT fan and a huge mutrix fan , respect mate
Hey, do you have a tutorial for the sound at 0:24-25? It's the bass that I believe is colored orange (the 8th notes).
I need that sound :F

This is honestly one of the best tutorials ever
Will this ever be released? I absolutely love it i need to hear it.

omg dude i searched you on soundcloud and your tracks are insane

Dude you rock, it's so nice to watch a tutorial "in context" instead of just "how I made a worthless patch"...
Cheers,

That is exactly what i was looking for. You are freaking awesome!!!
@officialsajon I have a limiter on my master, try that. Also, I don't have any KSD files, the newest version of Massive stores patches as NMSV files.
You are awesome, thank you so much for this tutorial, it has improved my amateur bass drops immensely!
wicked tutorial bro, very insightful. i'm gonna use some of those techniques on my own sounds, thanks for the tips.
@officialsajon i put an LFO on the pitch of the oscillators.
"can you see it now?"
at that moment, i was thinking to myself... "gosh I love this guy".
SUBBED! >:D
You are a gentleman and a scholar, sir.
watched a few of your tutorials, you're really doing a good job :)
thanks for all the help!
Hey bro your tutorials are really awesome!!!Keep doing a great job.

it would be SUPER helpful if you made a video on how to connect massive and ableton. i can design sounds all day....but how do you use them??
I love all the Sugar Bytes stuff!
this remix sounds AWESOME!
How long have you been using Ableton and how long have you been making your own music? How did you learn and what is the best way to learn in your opinion? Think you can make a tutorial on what goes on during a drop? Mine always sound so empty. A quick few of what builds a drop would help a lot!
Mutrix, can you make a tutorial of that other sound after the drop. Those high pitched basses
@MutrixOfficial Its just a tutorial on a growl, Its coool.
Can you do a tutorial on structuring your bassline? Like what synths you put 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc... what synths sound good together. Thanks dude!
Man, please, for the love of god find a way to release this song. I want it! props for the tutorial aswell. Love the music keep it up
bro id love it if you could make a tutorial for the wobble bass you have in the drop.
this is genius! ill definitely be using something close to this awesome sound in a remix I'm working on!
Very great tutorial, I now use both of these plugins a ton thx to this and it makes

Could you please make some tutorials on how to make dubstep sounds using just massive because I cant afford or find all these other plugins. Thanks
Hey man, thank you for this video and the responding- I was wondering what is the sound you are using at 00:25-26.. that high pitch sound that is very common in dubstep.. thank u!
Thanks for the great tutorial! Very clear and concise, and a great sound to boot!
@ZTasOfficial i'm talking about the way he create in massive is basically the same, is not really difficult to change from eq to wow, i did it myself, changed few things... and this is its looks like.. is not really complex to do it
haha huge metal fan, i played guitar in the band At the Throne of Judgment
sick man can't wait!!!
3:42 'Hummm its sounds good"
could you share some tips on how you sequence your melodies?
dude can you make a tutorial on making the sound coming right after the base drop.!?? ive been searching butdont seem to find one
would you say wow filter is an essential for stuff with heavy vocals? I'm contemplating buying it, but the heavy pricetag seems a bit much.
Beautiful!
@Kill0Watt i worded this question completely wrong haha. I was looking to learn how to make different rhythms and morphing sounds with massive-IN ableton. ive found that using the performer is a good way, also modulating the rate after connecting the LFO to the cutoff. Any other suggestions?
So cool! I always use it but never understood all of what it did, thanks for clarifying that.
Mutrix please please please, you could section out into parts how to gradually build up to make a track such as this, showing each step in detail, it would help so many people, obviously it'll take time and you may not have the time to do it but it will help lots of people

What's the program you use? How much is it? And where can I get it? (For windows XP)
Damn gotta save up :s
Thats programs name is Abelton
Dude get Fruity Loops! It's way better than abelton and it's WAY cheaper!
***** Hmmm... I don't get how people like Abelton... the UI seems so confusing and dull...
Use Ableton for vocal Processing and use FruityLoops for the music.
Is there any way you could take a stab at the Knife Party "Fire Hive" synth? The one that hits right after the drop....
Where can I buy a goat? And please don't answer me with Hoy Tin because I already checked.
Can you make a tutorial on how to make that Yoi in your preview in this one?
Could you please tell me how you get your acapella's, ive been looking around for ages for acapellas of songs and the only ones I can find are for songs I dont want to remix :(

I got the demo and think you've got to right-click the cutoff button then drag the LFO to the right if you cutoffbutton is all the way to the left.
Yo dude, I see that you are pretty good at replying, just wondering if this tut applies to FL studio also? I have Massive, and got the sound, but I can't get the Wow filter or Sausage filter for FL Studio, any ideas on how to get that extra effect without them? great tutorial otherwise, thanks for the zoom, first video i saw of yours but it was helpful. Will be checking for your remix on soundcloud n.n

WHEN IS THIS SONG COMING OUT!????
@LukeDarko i don't even know who twitch is and i've never seen that tutorial, but inbox it to me or something, i wanna see it.
Dude can you make a tutorial for the lead melody in will.i.am's this is love, kinda like a gliding synth or whatever they call it? if you can't make a tutorial can you send me some link on how to do this since i don't know what to search for?
THANKS!

what if i don't have wow filter, but i use fl studio, is there a way i could get it?
@OneiroiGod
I have this exact same issue on one PC, but on my other it works fine (Purchased version).
that would be a pleasure
Can you make a tutorial on scream filter related sounds?
ITS HERE
what other plugins do you use except from sausage fattener,WOW,Massive,Ohmicide?
I'm just making a light-hearted answer because it isn't important which DAW you use, just find one you like. But then again, he probably was just talking about the plug in, which as you said, is mentioned at the top. SILLY MEGAJELTO
