I remember seeing this when first came out and it was great but now Les has age on top of the survival plan just hope he is diversified with his investments because having all you eggs in one basket is a good way to break eggs

Les, you helped me get a job. On my interview with the director of IT, one of the questions I was asked was, who would I want with me if I were stranded on a deserted island, and my answer was YOU. He told me most people say their Wife/Husband. I told him I want to survive, not subject the love of my life to slowly dying because I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I GOT THE JOB. Still here 14 years later.

Nobody doubts Bear Grylls' ability to survive, but his show also doesn't show his 20 person crew who's standing behind the camera. Welcome to television. With very, very few exceptions, Les has always done it alone. No crew, no assistance, no craft service table filled with Redvines, lattes, and yogurt parfaits. Les doesn't give us a SHOW on survival, we're watching him actually survive. Bear gives us reality TV, Les gives us the real thing. Accept no substitutes.
Les, makes about 100,000 dollars per episode. Earns every penny of it
Bear grylls came and went but Les Stroud is GOLD.
Ask people who Les Strout is, and than ask who Bear Grylls is.
Most people will answer Bear because of his massive exposure on discovery etc...
I want to say thank you to Les Stroud!! I got lost in the Alaska last year and because I watched your videos before I left( I have seen every survivorman!!) Because of your videos I was able to survive through 2 winter nights until I was rescued!! You're a TRUE INSPIRATION AND THE REAL DEAL!! Thank you again les, you'll never know how much your survival techniques mean to mankind!! My oldest son who is 15 absolutely loves survivorman!!

I remember when I was young I saw Les Stroud shortly after I first watched Bear Grylls. I just enjoyed watching Les even more.

Use to watch these with my dad growing up. Now Im thousands of miles away stationed in Alaska and find a comfort in these episodes.
As much as I love Alaska...I am fortunate enough to have never had to truly SURVIVE during the winter. Through the US Army, I was assigned to a unit where "survival" is what we instructed others on...but help and resources were really only a radio call away if needed. But i will never forget the brutal cold and windchill on that glacier.....
Dealing with some severe depression and loneliness .
So here I am watching the pilot and earliest episodes of yours . Makes me not feel so alone .
I was a kid when I first watched the series . And it sparked something within me that has never left .
Though I’m physically/medically not capable to explore as much as I’d like . I love stockpiling all these years of knowledge that you have given me . Here’s to hoping for better days . Thank you Les for The content .

I`m 56 and have had severe depression and anxiety my whole life. I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. Just try to keep your mind busy. Get as many hobbies as possible. My latest one is growing food indoors with cheap little hydroponic systems. Try learning acoustic guitar. That helped me. Yamaha makes affordable quality guitars that tune and play well.

Les you forgot too mention that in the cold you dehydrate way faster and that keeping up hydration is key to survival. You can’t keep warm if your dehydrated.

I remember watching season 1 on OLG in Ontario as a kid. I had a severe speech impediment. Your show gave me the courage to go to camp, and helped me out of my shyness. Thank you for uploading these, great to watch again.
Camping is so relaxing and cathartic. Just two nights out in the bush is enough to remind you how directly-connected we all are to this planet we live on, and how important it is to preserve its natural beauty!

Honestly, everytime I saw the banner "the lost pilots" I expected Les to tell us an amazing story of pilots who were lost in the area. 🤣😂

Just hearing Les slip into his accent pretty often in this is something to hear. His later seasons you don't really hear it as much.
It makes me so happy you have a channel Les. Like many others I too grew up watching Survivorman. I remember staying up till 3am watching late night Survivorman on school days, pretending to be asleep on the couch when the parents occasionally walked by. Thanks for everything man❤️🇨🇦

I recently watched a youtube video (Fear of Cold) and all the mentions of how the cold breaks you reminded me of Survivorman going blow for blow with the wilderness on TV so very long ago now. So I had to come by to see how he's doing now and man. What a great thing to see you so active on TH-cam.
This was always my favourite episode. I have so many great memories watching Surviorman with my little brother :') true Ontario icon
It finally hit me: after his monologue at the beginning about his doubts, the dangers of the cold, I finally realized how insane it is that he can actually do the survival part while filming AN EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION SHOW BY HIMSELF. Or should I say the other way around, like which is harder for him? The fact that he's doing what he clearly loves or the fact that he has to carry about 2-3 cameras, set up shots, and then explain everything that he's doing, while he's busy doing it. He really is a total badass.
then you had that dumbass bear grylls faking a survival show giving terrible advice like diving off waterfalls. His show was so despicable compared to Survivorman.
I'm 30 yrs old and Les is literally my hero. My whole family, mom, dad little sister and I would sit down together at night and watch him from when he first came out on TV... he brings back great memories and real lessons in survival.... We never watched BG.

What I love about your shows is that you don’t try to pretend it’s a fun and enjoyable experience to survive in the woods. You don’t craft some ridiculous bushcraft lodge in the woods like most youtubers today.
Les definitely had more energy and enthusiasm in these episodes. It has to wear you down to do this for years

I miss the old days in high school when your show just came out. My friends and i used to have sleep overs and we would order pizza and coke and just watch your show all night. We thought maybe one day we'd go out and do the crazy things that you do too. Before we know it, 16 years have gone past and we all have family to take care of. We barely even have time for a drink together lol and some friends have moved states.
Anyway, Les if you're reading this, i want to say thank you for the great memories over the years and for keeping it real.

I got lost and scared in mountain of my own state but lived to write my story, which I will try to write down for my future family. It means and meant alot to me to have not let panic guide me and to have thought thru my decisions to the best of my abilities. Today, I have the memory, the burnt socks, the shitty lighter, the scares, and my life! Thanks head bandanna man! 😊

Watching this made me pull out my old Survivor Man DVDs and rewatch them. You sparked my fascination of survival skills and bush craft when I was a kid. Thank you.
With Les you get the good the bad and the deadly. One man on his own telling the truth to put food on the table.
OH WOW full episodes on TH-cam! Finally. I've missed these so much. I watched them like crazy when I was younger, and Les is one of the reasons I got so into the outdoors and survival skills. To bad kids of today will grow up watching fake survival shows.
Wow this brings back memories. Used to always watch Survivorman before I'd go to school every morning on "OLN". My favourite show, used to go out in the wilderness and use the things Les taught me on tv. So many good memories. Amazing to be able to watch them all for free on TH-cam! Hope you get the credit you deserve Les Stroud. You're the man!

The tips withstood the test of time and it is still good to watch after all these years. I do agree cold is the hardest to survive, and tropical survival is a vacation.
I miss watching these old episodes. I used to watch them all the time on tv. It was on Netflix for a while and I watched them all almost every night before bed. Thanks for all the awesome info and entertainment Les. Hope I can find all the episodes again.
I would love to see he statistics on how much money Les makes uploading these to youtube vs DVD sales. It's really a brilliant idea. I had no idea this channel existed until a month or so ago. I bet if there was more advertising, this channel would be huge. I've never met anyone that doesn't love Survivorman.

It's pretty cool to see the MASSIVE cameras you used in the early years of the show. Amazing how much the technology has come along since then.
I wonder if they’ve gotten any more cold-resistant? Back in 2007 in college I took a video class and well, it’s January and we had to go film something on our first week to get a feel for the cameras. They weren’t the giant pro cameras here, but it being 2007 they were still pretty chunky for a petite 18-year old girl to carry around. (No digital memory cards! All videotape!)
….so like an idiot, I decided to shoot out in the snow in the woods during a Canadian winter. I got a grand total of ten minutes of (bad) footage before the camera fogged up and shut down. Ugh.
My future husband, in the same class, had the much smarter idea and filmed his own “snow” scenes in the backyard through a picture window. LOL.
Great stuff Les! Loved that subtle dig at “camera crew guy.” Winter survival is a loss all day with no skills or even knowledge on what to do to get through these situations. Your series is making a difference.
His accent seemed about 15% more Canadian in these early episodes.
I've seen every episode of survivorman back in 2002 and you are the real deal. Haven't seen this episode though til now. 👍👍👍👍👍

I didn't realize how many other people actually enjoyed this same kind of memory and the feelings that we get when we watch you again. Truly thank you for such a beautiful thing. Les, I hope you see this. I just wanted to let you know that you really inspired me as a young teen. Even if I was just out in my backyard trying to start a friction fire or building a fort in the woods with my friends, it was your influence that led to my hobbies that still persist as an adult. I hope your legacy continues to inspire future generations such as the legacies of others like Thoreau. After all it is up to our new adventurers and seekers to protect and conserve our wilderness and wildlife. Maybe even our sanity hahaha, thank you Les.

I spent a lot of time with my grandfather growing up and your show was always on. But I can honestly say with the knowledge that Les and my grandfather passed down- I’d be okay until help came along.
When Les said its about -30 my jaw strait dropped...

while all my friends were in school i was watching les stroud.
Like most other commenting here, I grew up watching Survivorman. I think I had just started high school when the first season aired on OLN? I actually remember writing about the show and why I loved it for an English class assignment once, LOL. But I'd never seen the pilots until now! This really is the channel that keeps on giving. And yet my hubby had never really watched it, so I've been going through the episodes with him since the holidays (he's a videographer and gets quite a kick out of seeing the early/mid-2000's camera gear you had to haul around!).
The ending commentary/summary was fantastic. I love Survivorman! Such a great show to watch.
I grew up watching your videos on TV. It's cool to see them in HD even though back then I didn't know what HD was haha.

It really is interesting to hear how you changed the way you did things after season one and these episodes. Hearing you talk about the mistakes in film making, as well as just different techniques you tried out makes these way more in depth because I can almost hear you talking about it already in a breakdown. "Oh I made this mistake here, or that mistake there etc etc." I am glad you tested the waters out though Les. These things have always been informative, and even more so when you do the breakdowns and commentaries.
That flare comment and the three fire comments at the end were some examples of what I mean. Useful item, but not particularly useful for getting attention in the middle of a lake, during a "whiteout" But that flare you used on the island survival man. That was the stuff of glory.
I will say this as well - If you ever come back down to Arizona, though I know traveling right now isn't exactly the easiest, I'd love to join you out in the wilderness.

Pioneered modern day survivalist pop media. To my knowledge, the only accurate depiction of its kind since Alone in the wilderness on PBS wayy back in the 80s!

I love how calm his voice stays throughout each episode. He never really freaks out, he just admits that he either made a mistake or that he's in trouble. Always remain calm and honest with yourself in a survival situation. Great mindset to keep.

@@SoundShinobiYuki Close, but not quite. He stayed in a cabin, brought food in, and his friends made food drops. I mean take nothing in but tools. No food, no shelter.
Its freezing here and covered with snow too. But not minus blummin 40! 🥶I'm in the hills in the van with the diesel heater on, so quitecomfortable.
