    Hey, I know this didn't go how you hoped, but just wanted to say thank you. I had a P0302 code. Checked wiring, swapped Coil packs between 2 and 4. Swapped plugs. Finally a new Fuel Injector did it. Way smoother. Not perfect, maybe build up? But the code never returned and it really is night and day. Your video was key for me with zero experience of any kind.
    So, thank you.

      Hopefully you remember, when you had that code and you changed the plugs, when you idled did it sound weird, having this issue and swapped the plugs with the same code and hoping to try this next

    Feel for you Scott. Been watching a lot of your videos. I remember your timing chain/ valve failure. Hang in there. 4 months ago I replaced my camshaft and lifters in my 17 ram 1500 after failure. Went through all of the diagnosis of swapping things to no avail. Was shocked to find a lifter snapped at the roller damaging the cam. Luckily it was only 1 camshaft lobe that was damaged. My truck is running strong now after I repaired it

    Not that this may be the same but had a similar issue with my F150 5.4 cylinder 7 would work great for a while then start with the missing and throwing cylinder specific as well as multi cylinder misfire codes. Replace the coil and would go away. Tried pretty much everything that you have done with the exception of the injectors. I also had cam phaser issues that were addressed by blocking the phasers and reprogramming the ecm. Finally had a spark plug break off in cylinder 7 while replacing the plugs that required the head to be removed to get it out. Engine had 305k on it so found a rebuilt and had it installed. Original injectors and coils were used and no codes have shown up in the 15k that i have put on since the rebuild so thinking that the issue, unfortunately, was cam lifter related. Suggest look for a 5.7 from a wrecker, Kijiji or some other equivalent with way lower miles which you should be able to get for a very reasonable price as there are many out there, change out the engine then sell. Would be a cost but looks like there will be a cost anyway just thought this might be the easier way to go. As for the cab rust not sure about Ontario but needs a safety and body integrity is part of the safety to be able to be registered by new owner so that could be an issue for you as well to consider. Not a good situation and very discouraging!!!!!

    Just a thought Dave but have you tested the knock sensor, I bad one may cause the codes, worth a look I think, and what ever it is seems to be affected by heat.

    Scott , a bad cam doesn’t start skipping after it warms , if a cam lobe is bad it’s bad cold or hot and skips when you start each time , it’s metal and when it’s lobes are worn down doesn’t get better clearing codes . Your engine runs fine no skips while sitting then when you bring the rpm’s up it throws a code it can only be a couple of things fuel or electrical issues .
    Have you checked the fuel pressure before and once the engine computer throws a code .
    Your multiple misfires I think are fuel or electric . Can your diagnostic scanner run a injector test ( not injectors I think ) and can it run a fuel trim test and if so see if it drops off when the skip starts . Happy hunting and don’t pull that cam and I sure the valves are moving just fine . It’s frustrating to see you work so hard ar this struggle .

    • @rustyrods8535
      @rustyrods8535 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Disclaimer , I don’t work as a mechanic I just work on my own equipment for my business and my hot rods and my statements are just speculation .
      Life was a lot easier when one wire started your engine and the same wire shut it off and there wasn’t three miles of wire under the hood just to make it start .

    • @ScottRods
      @ScottRods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think the cam is causing the bad running. The knock sensor is detecting the misfire and throwing it into limp home mode. I think if the computer wasn't such a smart arse then I could keep driving this for another 100K before I'd really notice a fault, lol. Hmmmm, error code delete? lol

    Maybe I just got lucky but I'm now at 180,000 km without the infamous HEMI TICK TICK TICK CAM & FAILURE. I can tell you that I have used high-quality 5w20 synthetic engine engine oil and increased oil change intervals to every 5000 miles or 8000 km. Time will tell, but I also have not allowed my engine to excessively idle as the majority of the cam and lifter failures where the engine was allowed to idle excessively such as vehicles, service vehicles, police, taxi, cab, delivery services, Ambulances, colder weather, environments up north, etc. Maybe I'm just getting lucky but I'm definitely keeping an ear on it lol.

    Once you get a P0300 code, such as you just did in the video that simply tells you that there is more than one cylinder misfiring in which Usually points to cam and lifter failure. That is assuming everything else on your vehicle is in perfect running condition from the exhaust from the intake, side, engine oil, coolant, air filter, fuel injector cleaner. I'm sure you've already used. no restrictions in the exhaust manifold etc. if everything else is checking out to have no problems and in healthy working order? Then unfortunately you will likely need a cam and lifter kit handsome really good high-quality synthetic oil afterwards. Once that's done to prevent it from happening again a good counter measure would be a high flow oil pump. It's the oil pump that's on the big brother to the 5.7 L which is the 6.4L HEMI 6.4 392 HEMI. It's a factory direct bolt on oil pump that the one in your current engine in order to get the proper oil pressure and not throw a fault code.

  • @davidleslie949
    @davidleslie949 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm just watching this video now, but I'm sure you've already figured out that you need a new cam and lifter kit to prepare your misfire on multiple cylinders at higher RPM is when it's most noticeable on these engines that's why at low RPM it didn't throw a code and at higher RPM The misfire becomes more pronounced based on the speed of the engine and the more frequent opportunity for misfires.

  • @davidleslie949
    @davidleslie949 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You could also perform a cylinder leak down test in order to determine if it is, in fact, the cam and lifter causing them misfire with the intake valves, not fully seating and the exhaust valves because of the worn lobe or lobes on the camshaft. if you don't have the leak down tester, which is the opposite have a compression tester which could also be your next test checking the compression of each cylinder or just two or three of them to get an average of above 100 psi at cold engine operating temperature. Ideally, you would like to see approximately 150 psi on a good healthy engine during the compression test. if you do choose to hold the throttlebody open during the test, it's best to make sure nothing will get sucked down the throttlebody into the intake manifold (Ask me how I know)? If you're able to rig the throttle body to stay open, using some type of steel rod, then it would stay open fully during the test because if you just put your foot down on the gas pedal that won't work like it used to in the old days because of the drive-by wire It'll just put it into a flooded fuel condition in order to purge the fuel system of access fuel. if you don't hold the flap open on the throttle body, that's OK too but just make sure the same test is done for each cylinder at the same temperature so it's best to do it all at once in order to get an accurate reading. Regardless of which route you choose of the throttle body it only matters what the average of all of the cylinders is? If you did a compression test of all eight cylinders and seven of them were 125 and one of them was 75. The average would be 125 and whichever cylinder has 75 psi is the culprit. Next test would be the leak down test in order to verify whether or not it's the intake and or exhaust valves not seating properly while keeping in mind, there will be some acceptable amount of lead down psi through the piston rings into the crank case just like a normal combustion process of up to approximately 11% of the initial reading during the leak down test is acceptable. Again a healthy 5.7L V-8 HEMI ENGINE consistently averages 150 psi per cylinder on a healthy fully functioning engine. no less than 100 psi on any given cylinder is considered acceptable. Anything less than 100 psi is in need of repair. You can look at the valves going up and down, but it won't tell you the true health of a cylinder within an engine unless you perform the pressure tests. Hope this helps.

    Poor Scott… Ugh…. This is a shot in the dark from an old guy. Twice in my 75 years I have had high mileage cars go wonky and discovered the cat converter had clogged up and turned the engine into a big compressor. The symptoms were it would start, then after a few minutes/miles/feet would run horribly. This was before error codes and to test was simple, take the cat out of the system and drive around for a few minutes. Might be worth a try as it would likely confuse the computer trying to spy out a code.
