      the U.N.'s top human rights body on Thursday voted down a proposal from Britain, Turkey, the United States and other mostly Western countries to hold a debate on alleged rights abuses against Muslim Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in China’s western Xinjiang region.
      At the 47-member state Human Rights Council, 17 countries voted in favor, 19 were against, and 11 abstained in a vote to hold a debate on Xinjiang at its next session in March. The vote amounted to a test of political and diplomatic clout between the West and Beijing, and would have marked the first time that China’s record on human rights would merit a specific agenda item at the council.

    I went to China, drove more than a dozen EVs, and sat in dozens more. Had a lot of conversations, learned a lot of things.
    One thing's for sure -- we're absolutely cooked, and it's probably our fault. China's EVs are better.
    "After seeing it with my own eyes, I finally understood why Chinese independent brands are so popular among so many people. This made me a little embarrassed, (because) I tried to understand that the exclusion of these Western brands from the Chinese market was due to political factors, not It's their own fault, but what I've seen with my own eyes is that while China is trying to make progress, we just keep complaining."

    if you thought things were getting expensive. just wait.
    importers pay the price for the extra tariffs, Chinese companies does not pay it.
    Apple is already losing 13% market share in China to recovering Huawei in China.
    retaliatory tariffs on all American car brands, Apple, Tesla, etc. could be huge, when their market share in China is already falling. not to mention Nvidia, AMD, and other US technology brands.
    I did not even mention American food brands, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC, etc.

    *Let them drive the price down as low as possible & we build the next thing, if we can think of what's next!*
    *But sadly, this will be repeated in everything, they're simply better capitalists & have a better Democracy!*
    While we protect & focus on the Rich & their Businesses, China focuses solely on delivering for their people! That's what Democracy is all about.

      Fast food is produced locally, so there's no point to tariff it. China would instead target sensitive "dual use" exports like Gallium and Germanium - things that affect the US MIC.

    Elon mention US auto needs tariff to survive.
    Of course GM and Ford lobbies for it that makes all three.
    Teslar might be saved if he employs lots of Chinese. But not GM and Ford.
    China might respons to the sanction by imposing similar tax on them.

  • @BrianNedry
    @BrianNedry 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    Of course the US doesn't want china coming over and selling their cars. US automakers know full well that they can't compete with them and if they tried their margins would evaporate. Cars/Suvs and trucks are way overpriced in north america/Europe compared to china. While quality may still be a issue with some new chinese car manufacturers, they will get better and seeing that's the only stereotype that is left to overcome then it will be game over if US auto doesn't start learning to manufacturer compelling good quality cars at affordable prices.

    • @ZweiZwolf
      @ZweiZwolf 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      China has been building BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Buick, and Tesla luxury cars for decades. China knows how to build a car that meets the highest standards for safety and quality anywhere in the world. If China exports to the US, Americans are going to get EVs that are better-built and more affordable than most of what is currently sold in the US domestic market.

    Ford jv China has only few thousand workers.
    But GM jv China has 50 k plus workers.
    Imagine their EV industries maybe able to accept more workers (exporting cars to meny other countries besides US)
    China is likely to slowly and surely squeeze GM off the block....
    For Ford China it might be on the door out by now...
    A gradual process. ..

      the U.N.'s top human rights body on Thursday voted down a proposal from Britain, Turkey, the United States and other mostly Western countries to hold a debate on alleged rights abuses against Muslim Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in China’s western Xinjiang region.

      Punishment? Where have you been the last 10 years? Xi went to Serbia to give a polite warning to the West. He more or less told everyone the bombing 25 years ago will never happen again. If the US is still all powerful, they would have dismantled all the Chinese made South Sea islands years ago. Or their threats would have stop the Chinese finishing them. Now those islands are armed to the teeth. Good luck. Especially with a fleet of old warships.
